🇺🇸☀️🇺🇸☀️ Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) @rondesantisfl made good on his campaign promise to stand against impractical and dangerous policies that promote illegal immigration and signed a bill into law Friday, effectively banning sanctuary cities in his state. “Earlier this year, I made a promise that we would ban sanctuary cities in Florida and today we are delivering on that promise,” DeSantis announced in a tweet. “I am proud to sign the bill presented to me by the FL Legislature to uphold the rule of law and ensure that our communities are safe,” he added. At the beginning of the year, DeSantis asked the Florida Legislature to craft a bill that would “uphold the rule of law and ensure that no city or county jurisdiction can get in the way of Florida’s cooperation with our federal partners to enforce immigration law,” DeSantis spokeswoman Helen Ferre said, according to the Orlando Sentinel. “Public safety is paramount and local law enforcement agencies can and should work with the federal government to ensure that accountability and justice are one in our state,” she added.
Both chambers passed the bill (SB 168) on May 2. It passed in the Senate 22-18 and House 68-45 after much deliberation and opposition from immigration activist groups.
The law effectively prohibits local governments from implementing sanctuary city policies and requires them to “honor federal ‘immigration detainer’ requests,” the Miami Herald reports. “A state entity, law 113 enforcement agency, or local governmental entity may not adopt 114 or have in effect a sanctuary policy,” the bill states. “A law enforcement agency shall use best efforts to support the enforcement of federal immigration law,” it adds.
Florida joins a number of states adopting similar policies.
“Nine states — they are Alabama, Arizona, Georgia, Iowa, North Carolina, Mississippi, Missouri, Tennessee and Texas — have passed laws requiring law enforcement to cooperate with ICE,” Fox News reports.

Children and teens in Vermont who claim to be transgender could soon be able to have taxpayer-funded sex reassignment surgeries without having to wait until they are 21.
A new rule proposed at the end of May will allow children and teens covered by Medicaid and who have parental consent to begin sex reassignment surgeries at younger ages, said Nissa James, Department of Vermont Health Access policy director, reported the Burlington Free Press. The sex reassignment surgeries covered by Medicaid include 16 types of genital surgery as well as breast augmentation or mastectomy.
According to the report, Dr. Rachel Inker, who heads the Transgender Health Clinic at the Community Health Centers of Burlington, welcomed the new rule.
“Having young people have to wait until they were 21 just didn’t really make any sense,” Inker said.
The Free Press continued: “The choice to have surgery is a personal one that should be explored in every age group, Inker said, although people who are young enough can be given puberty-blocking treatments to inhibit development of secondary sex characteristics like breasts or facial hair. Older teens may have already developed those characteristics, Inker said, and face going to college or getting a job while their gender identity and gender presentation are mismatched. She cited young transgender men wishing to get top surgery to remove breast tissue as an example of the kind of procedures commonly requested by teenagers between 16 and 18.” In order to receive the Medicaid coverage for sex reassignment surgeries, requirements include a clinical evaluation stating the surgery is a “medical necessity” and a referral from a “qualified mental health professional.” The documentation of the “qualified mental health professional” is to include “diagnosis of persistent gender dysphoria” and documentation of the child’s “participation in a treatment plan in consolidating gender identity.” In addition, the mental health professional must demonstrate the child has been counseled with regard to “treatment options and implications.”

Rapper Vic Mensa released the video for his latest political anthem, “Camp America,” which reimagines ICE detention centers and President Donald Trump’s immigration policy as “summer camps” and sees white children in cages drinking toilet water and ingesting drugs. “We’ll be living it up, not giving a fuck Splitting you up, then we put you in cuffs Then we shipping you off, yeah, you could get lost at Camp America,” Vic Mensa says as images show small children in orange jumpsuits being ordered around by guards in a detention facility.
“Take your clothes off baby, let me see what you got. We can have a good time if you’re legal or not,” the Chicago crooner and 93PUNX frontman says as a security guard ominously approaches a terrified little girl. “Its an ignorant, arrogant, terrorist, heritage. You can finally be an American,” Vic Mensa sings. “The song’s lyrics were inspired by ICE director Matthew Albence comparing the immigration detention centers to summer camps,” the rapper told the Daily Beast. “I thought that was a crazy fucking idea and wanted to create a world with this song that imagined that twisted alternate reality, where it was fun for kids to be held as prisoners, drinking out of toilets, away from their parents, and somehow enjoy it like one might at a summer camp.” Promoting the release of the provocative video, Vic Mensa said “The song and video highlights America’s immigrant prisons (aka detention centers), which they love referring to as summer camps.” Explaining why he put white children in his video, as opposed to minorities, the rapper said it was “to point out the blatantly obvious fact that this would never happen to white kids in this country or maybe anywhere on this earth.” “Although the nature of the actions the kids were involved in were graphic or shocking, it was all taken from actual occurrences reported at ‘detention’ centers,” the rapper told the outlet. Of course Vic Mensa fails to mention that the cages in ICE detention facilities were used, and some erected, during the Obama administration to detain child border crossers.

President Donald Trump said Friday that First Lady Melania Trump was the most iconic first lady since Jackie Kennedy. “We have our own Jackie O today, it’s called Melania. We’ll call it ‘Melania T,'” the president said.
Trump spoke about the first lady while defending his plan to change the paint scheme of Air Force One in a phone interview with Fox and Friends. “You know what? It’s been a long time and it fits the plane better … and I like the concept of red white and blue, and the classic,” he said. “I think it’s going to look much better actually.” He said that the current “baby blue” color for Air Force One “doesn’t fit with us” noting that it was inspired by Jackie Kennedy.

President Donald Trump blamed Iran on Friday for this week’s attacks on two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman. “Iran did do it, and you know they did it because you saw the boat, I guess one of the mines didn’t explode and it’s probably got essentially Iran written all over it,” Trump said. The president commented on the attacks during a phone interview on Fox and Friends on Friday morning.
He said it was obvious Iran was covering up their role in attacking the tankers, by trying to secretly remove the unexploded mine. “They’re a nation of terror,” Trump said. “They’ve changed a lot since I’ve been president, they were unstoppable and now they’re in deep, deep trouble.” Trump said Iran was flourishing in the Obama administration, actively involved in 14 different conflicts in the Middle East but they were “pulling back.” “I’m not looking to hurt that country, but they can’t have a nuclear weapon, it’s very simple,” he said.

Lawmakers in Maine rejected efforts to secure universal background checks and empower county governments to enact local, public carry bans.
The Press Herald reports the universal background check push was rejected by Maine’s House on Thursday. Such checks criminalize private gun sales by requiring a background check at point of sale for every gun purchase, whether private or retail. Such action would not have prevented a single mass shooting over the last decade, but it would have criminalized the man who wanted to sell a five shot revolver to his life-long neighbor.
The Herald also reported that the effort to empower local governments to pass gun control stricter than that at the state level was also defeated, as was the effort to put 72-hour waiting periods for gun purchases into place. The people of Maine previously rejected a universal background check measure that was placed on the ballot as Question 3. On November 9, 2016, the Banger News Daily reported that the loss was “a blow to Everytown for Gun Safety, a national group founded by Michael Bloomberg, the billionaire ex-mayor of New York City, which funded virtually all of the nearly $6 million campaign in Maine.” @awr_hawkins
The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency has arrested 140 illegal aliens, nearly a third of which have criminal records, in a five-day raid across multiple Midwest states.
ICE agents last conducted a raid across Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, and Wisconsin that resulted in the arrest of 140 illegal aliens, five of whom were women and the other 135 of whom were men.
Almost a third of the illegal aliens arrested in the raid, 42 in total, had prior criminal records and convictions but continued to live illegally in the U.S. after serving time. Those criminal records include convictions for crimes such as domestic violence, drunk driving, drug trafficking, identity theft, and causing hit-and-run accidents. The illegal aliens arrested in the raid are from a variety of countries, including Benin, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Honduras, Jordan, Micronesia, Moldova, Nicaragua, Poland, Saudi Arabia, and South Korea. The bulk of the illegal aliens arrested, though, came from Guatemala and Mexico.
In the last year alone, ICE agents arrested more than 6,600 convicted murderers and convicted sex offenders who were in the United States illegally.
Of that total, 4,975 of the illegal aliens arrested were convicted sex offenders. The other 1,641 illegal aliens had been convicted of homicide. Another 1,913 illegal aliens that were arrested by ICE had pending sex offense charges against them, while 387 illegal aliens had pending murder charges against them.
Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) estimates that on average about 2,000 Americans or legal immigrants are killed every year by illegal aliens, citing ICE data.

A California furniture and hardware company is planning to expand its manufacturing in the United States thanks to President Trump’s tariffs on Chinese imports.
Restoration Hardware, known simply as “RH,” offers luxury furnishing collections from dining room tables to home decor with about 35 percent of its products being made in China last fiscal year. For Fiscal Year 2019, RH executives said that about 25 to 30 percent of its products will be manufactured in China.
Trump’s recent hiking of tariffs on $200 billion worth of Chinese imports to 25 percent, though, has RH executives planning to expand their manufacturing base in the U.S. That expansion will mean less and less production in China.
In the company’s latest financial report, executives said: “Regarding China tariffs, we have renegotiated product costs and selectively raised prices to mitigate the impact of the increase from 10 to 25 percent. We are also moving certain production and new product development out of China, plus exploring new partnerships and expanding our own manufacturing facilities in the United States. Long term, we do not believe the current trade climate will impair our ability to achieve our stated financial goals and the expected impact from the increased tariffs is embedded in our guidance for the year.” As Breitbart News’s John Carney noted, the prices of goods imported to the U.S. have fallen even as tariffs on China have increased. Specifically, prices for Chinese imports fell 0.1 percent last month and are down 1.4 percent compared to a year ago, indicating that China is absorbing the bulk of tariff costs. “Tariffs are implemented to counter unfair trading practices and to stimulate domestic production,” Jeff Ferry, chief economist for the Coalition for a Prosperous America, said in a statement. “With manufacturers adding jobs, and consumers not facing additional costs, it’s clear they are working. It’s troubling to see media coverage of misleading estimates of higher costs and prices, when actual price data is freely available.”
