Who loves Cornish beaches & the glorious southwest coastpath? I heard about a record attempt which is happening today to raise money for the South West coastpaths #40for40 fundraising campaign. #joinusonthebeach#southwestcoastpath
Today on 21st June it’s the summer solstice and longest day of the year and Beach Retreats will be visiting as many Cornish beaches as they can in one day! Starting at Cawsand at 5:08am they’ll be making the most of the 16.5 hours of daylight, stopping in at as many beaches as possible until 9:30pm, when they hope to have made it to Bude!
The team are aiming to raise £2,500 for the South West Coast Path, which is celebrating its 40thAnniversary this year. This money could go towards funding 250 new wooden steps or fund five activity days on the Path for youth groups.
With more than 400 miles of Cornish coastline and over 300 beaches in Cornwall, Beach Retreats aims to be the first to visit a minimum of 40 of these beaches to raise money for the Path’s “40for40” campaign – a bid to raise £40,000 by the end of October 2018 to celebrate its 40-year anniversary. As part of their partnership, Beach Retreats is sponsoring the Association with £2,500 and challenges the public to match this through donations, setting a fundraising target of £2,500 To help Beach Retreats reach their target of £2,500, donate at uk.virginmoneygiving.com/BeachRetreats and follow their journey on Instagram and help raise awareness by sharing your pictures of your favourite Cornish beaches using the hashtag #JoinUsOnTheBeach. #worldwaterweek18
The most photographed tree in Wales. You can see why, it looks like a golden tree from some Arthurian legend marking the spot in the lake where Excalibur would be found. I decided against digging it up to check. It would be terrible shame and deeply selfish to displace the tree, and besides, being king of all England sounds like a right faff.
Bonfire night celebrations are only a couple of hours away now. This is the spectacular display at Lands End, Cornwall captured brilliantly by @aaronjenkin Where are you going to watch the fireworks tonight? Wherever you’re going please stay safe and wrap up nice and warm 😀 #walkinguk 👣
