Padma Mudra - I love sharing this at the end of our practice. Especially at the moment, I feel it helps to send our positive energy out into the world. This Mudra is healing for ourselves and others. Honouring our divine inner light.
Symbolising the lotus flower, reminding us that something beautiful can come from the darkest of places. Reflecting on the challenges we have to overcome that lead us to who we are today & remembering that sometimes we must embark on a difficult journey in order to bloom.
Sending loving, healing energy to anyone in need today 🙏🏻 #yoga#mudra#yogagirl#meditation#lotus#yogisofinstagram#yogainspiration#yogateacher#yogalove#yogalife
It took me a long time to integrate physical exercise into my self care routine. My family was never outdoorsy or sports oriented and I thought I was an introvert because I disappeared for hours in books and drawing. Really I was a Pitta dominant type growing up in a Kapha household, and this brought on some seriously depressive states of mind.
I misunderstood the undercurrent of dissatisfaction as a need for adventure and went looking for ways to feel more alive. In questionable and possibly dangerous lifestyle choices and relationships - if I felt a pit in my stomach thinking of what I was about to do, it meant I had to push harder. Really my energy was asking permission to flow constantly instead of spiking up and down. To be honest, to this day I hate loud noises, adrenaline pushing sports, heights, and crowds.
My mental wellbeing is much more balanced if I burn some energy on the regular. I let my partner know that when I am emotionally overwhelmed it is difficult for me to express without somaticizing and that I need to move in order to release. I asked him to help me recognise these moments and invite me for a walk or to my mat when I shut down.
Neither running nor competitive sports fascinate me and I get super aggressive when someone pushes me around or yells so cross fit is out.
Free movement, yoga, athletic pilates, dancing, surfing, swimming - those I can lose myself in.
I love trancelike, meditative movement, always improvising, always dancing with life. Movement is a healing discovery, it led me to accepting my constitution, my needs, and encourages me to build a discipline every day to honour myself.

What is the greatest lesson a woman should learn?⠀
That since day one, she’s already had everything she needs within herself. It’s the world that convinced her she did not.⠀

One of my favorite teachings in yoga is referred to as Svadhyaya, which translates to Self Examination. Socrates also had a similar teaching; “nosce te ipsum” or “know thyself”.🌀
This is possibly one of the most profound pieces of advice in all of history. Imagine a world where every single one of us truly knew ourselves. If we took the time to get introspective, to build self awareness around our thought patterns and tendencies from moment to moment to truly peel back the layers of our consciousness and understand who we are.🌀
This is the work. It’s a daily practice - checking in on ourselves, dealing with our shit, witnessing our thoughts, our reactions.🌀
But it’s worthwhile because this is where the magic is. Your power comes from how well you know and embrace ALL the parts of yourself.🌀
Know your strengths, your weaknesses, your limits, your excesses, your emotions, your desires, your yearnings, your abilities, your triggers, your thoughts, your dreams, your hopes, your aspirations, your victories, your defeats; know not little, know all.🌀

I've been away from home for three months and probably not done self practice here in much much longer than that.
With all the activity of travel and coming back home, I finally got on my mat today. Did a 45 minute practice. Did not plan the sequence but just went with the flow. one posture just led me to the other. It was such a different feeling practicing in my room. When I got into Sirsasana, my point of focus wavered. But found my stability in the second attempt.Nevertheless it was a beautiful feeling and so so nice to be on the mat. Turns out my mat is one of my homes, no matter where I am, who I am around. 🧘♀️💛🙏

Shivo'ham. 🕉️ #bioritmosantos

Trying to look at the past from a different angle and appreciate everything I've been through because of which I am where I am.✨🧿 This pose is a chest opener and it also squeezes your spinal cord.
Heart chakra opening asanas like this are my dear ones since they are very liberating.♥️ Try it, you won't reach as far, just doing it every morning sets a positive and confident tone to your day.
Keep in mind, you stretch behind from your chest and not from your torso!

Hello, it’s me again😉 Clairie, it’s Thursday and as usual I’m behind 🤪 so this is actually last Thursday’s assignment for #YogisComingForCoffee ! The assignment was on meditation and what and how we do it. Honestly it’s been far to long since I’ve meditated and I definitely need to get back to it again! For me my meditation was done alone in a dark room with a candle lite and some relaxing sounds playing like the ocean, song birds, waterfalls, drums, piano, anything that wouldn’t distract me but that would help drown out the outside noises. I sat just like this well minus the coffee🤪and I would talk to God. I would talk to Him about anything and everything and I would listen to Him and it was beautiful! I found my days that I spent this time with Him were better no matter what happened throughout the day! Most people that think meditation is full of chants and elephant lady worshipping but it isn’t, well it can be if you’re into that sort of thing! For me it was just a time to be with my Father. 🧘🏻♀️

Yoga breathing practices, or pranayama, have been based primarily on tradition which varies greatly from one branch of yoga to another. The ranges of breathing practices are mind-boggling and can often leave yoga students wondering, “How important is a pranayama practice? And “What is the best way to start? “
𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝟰 𝗬𝗼𝗴𝗮 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵:
Lets begin with the basics of relaxation, make your breath smooth and steady breathing through your nose unless otherwise noted, pay attention to your feelings, and don’t hold your breath for too long. Breathing can be practiced sitting upright in a chair or lying in a chest elevated position. Remember, we must exhale in order to inhale.
Step 1. Diaphragmatic or Belly Breathing. The idea is to sit or lie down with your hands on your lower belly and breathe deeply. As you breathe in expand your lower belly, then relax as you slowly exhale. Repeat for a few minutes whenever you feel stressed.
Step 2. Extend the Exhale to Reduce Over-breathing. It is important to extend the length of our exhalations. Making our exhalations longer than the inhalations offers a way to deeply calm the nervous system, helps to tone the diaphragm, and makes our breathing more efficient. ~ Take a natural full breath into your belly then see if you can exhale 25-50 % longer, ex; inhale for 4 counts and exhale for 6 counts. Continue for 5 minutes and observe the calming effect. Benefits include reduced anxiety, fatigue, brain fog, dizziness, muscle pain, and digestive problems.
Step 3. Pausing the Breath on the Inhalation. Once our breath has become longer and more regular, pausing the breath at the fullness of our inhalation stops the flow of mind, also known in yoga as the ‘fluctuations of consciousness’. Repeat several times in any one practice session, but not in a row. Be sure to place several relaxing breaths in between.
Step 4. Cooling Breath. Roll your tongue in a ‘U’ shape if possible, otherwise smile and breathe through a small opening in your lips. Inhale through your mouth and exhale through your nose. Repeat for 5 – 10 minutes.
