It’s #spiritweek at school (we’ve got a #yearroundschool schedule, which is surprisingly awesome) and today was #crazyhairday. Y’all would not believe how much hair my big kid has. 😂 My son says he looks like @dantdm and I have never seen him so excited to go to school as he was this morning. 😂 .

Your eyes are not deceiving you. Yes that is beginning algebra and other math. And yes it is currently happening at my table in the middle of July 😆. I’m that homeschool mom.
We do take a “summer break” of sorts. I finish formal lessons in early May. They take some time off of school altogether. But something inevitably happens every July. My sweet little barefoot kids turn into feral beings that become “BORED!” The lack of routine and days of freedom get to them and the bickering begins. Sunshine, fresh air, and outside adventures are no longer enough. Too much free time has led to boredom. So back to routine we go.
This week we started back to school. No formal lessons that I am teaching. But starting their morning with independent study. Focusing on math and reading. After some independent study time, chores. By the time they’re done, the day is well under way and they’re more than happy to find something to be entertained.
This is what I love about homeschooling. The flexibility to teach when we want. Do what works for our family. This week that means breaking out the math book for my oldest and my other two have reading books. Next week it may look more like fishing if the salmon start to run. Always learning. We don’t have a set schedule to be off all summer and grind all fall, winter, and spring. Year round to keep a rhythm and let them set the pace has become our main focus. I’m seeing lots more interest and growth doing it this way.
This is one of those, what are my expectations and can my kids actually achieve them.
I had listed all the family words in spanish on the board. The kids then had to fill in the blank.
After Amir eyes started to glaze over I helped him read each word. For the Kinder, she was too lost so I told her to color the figures and verbally identify each one. Expectations. This work (the entire interactive folder) is closer to 3rd/4th than 2nd. So adjustments definitely have to be made. (Pardon his cutting, he got mad and gave up 🤦🏽♀️😤Pick your battles sis🤣)
Anywho, this is what they all did for #spanish. .
