Being from Hawaii, I feel more at home living less than a mile from the beach in Playa Del Rey, California. Sadly, I hardly ever GO to the beach. It’s just 3 minutes away and I almost never go. Sad. At least I can feel the breeze?
Instead I’m doing emails and calls that seem to suck the day away. Or delivering cases of @cropsticksco to clients across town. And as I’m doing those tasks, it feels like the best ROI on my time...right? I’m NOT complaining cause I love being an entrepreneur. It’s FUN! But, so was just chillin at the beach like I did in high school. Did you go to da beach in high school? I use to just lay in the sun with no sunscreen and catch waves at Walls in Waikiki. Super carefree back then. Now I wear spf 40 even in the shade.
Uh what was I saying?? Oh yah, the beach.
Last week some friends and I decided to do a quick photo shoot at the beach and it reminded me that man, I need to do this more often and just chill. Cause that’s FUN too.
I wore choke sunscreen that day. “Choke” means “a lot” in Hawaii. Pidgin we call it. I use to to speak choke pidgin but less so when I moved to da mainland. Anyway, I remembered how much I love chillin at beach! That is a happy face. I think I’ll just bring my lap top to the beach tomorrow. #WorkLifeBlend 📸: @gianmarcoflamini 💄: @lianne.cosplay

Since becoming a Mama, I’ve developed some new super powers... Multi tasking is second nature, I’m capable of functioning on zero sleep and my productivity has sky rocketed.
When you know that you only have a certain number of hours in the day to get s*it done, you just do it.
Goodbye mindless scrolling, one too may tea breaks and falling down the rabbit hole of the world wide web.
On days when I’m tempted by distractions, I think of all the awesome humans (especially Mamas) out there, running not one but multiple businesses. It really does show that anything is possible.

This is a GAME CHANGER. You don’t have time to catch up with friends? To do yoga? To prep healthy food? To run your side hustle? To have a date night? Hard truth time: yes, you do. It’s a matter of making it a priority in your life, and that is a different story entirely. 🖤
When you change “I don’t have time to” into “I don’t prioritize,” it will flip the switch on your perspective. “I don’t prioritize my health” feels really icky - and suddenly, kablam: you just made space for yoga twice a week. “I don’t prioritize my relationship” is a red alert: kaboom, you just created time for a regular date night (or day date, even better). 🖤
We are all busy, to varying degrees of busy-ness. It tends to be the busiest of all who have the most dynamic lives, and it’s because they’ve committed to make the time for what’s important to them. You can do this too, it’s a matter of - ouch - choosing to do so. 🖤
By no means am I saying you should you attempt to do it all; that’s it’s own brand of difficulty. The objective is to make time for the things that matter to YOU, rather than hide behind the veil of not having enough time. 🖤
Play. Love. Self care. Joy. Pleasure. Health. Focus. Calm. Fun. Growth. Cardio. What are you making time for this week, as a priority for you? 🖤
The goals I have for Q4 into 2019 are 🔥 but I am choosing to recharge with the family today.
I never regret investing in my marriage and children. ⠀
But come Monday, y’all this #ladybosslife is about to get cray-zeeeeee!
Follow along with me @hellohollyflick and let’s do this thing together.

Morning swim. Yoga at home. Got the girls and costumes ready for school. Drop offs one and two. Discovery Call. Client call. To preschool for the Halloween parade. Quick errand. Home for an art and email date with the little lady. Second school pickup. Halloween cartoon for them while I wrapped up work. Unplugged for the night to host dinner and go trick or treating with friends. Now bed.
On Wednesdays, I'm sharing a peek of how I balance my work as a coach for creatives with my desire to live a freedom-filled life. Because while we talk a lot about the perks of entrepreneurship, we don't often share what it looks like in real life. (And let's be clear: it's not alway a perfect balance between work and play.) I'm inviting you to join in too by sharing a few things you did today in work and life in the comments below.
"For me balance is nurturing my brain, body and spirit (or psyche). A perfect day consists of activities and rituals that serve all three. ⠀
A good way to measure balance is observing thoughts pre-sleep, if my mind is noisy or I am thinking of work, it’s a sign my wellbeing and personal development needs focus – I learnt this measure from Alison Rice on her podcast ‘Offline’."⠀

I have had a flurry of new followers recently so sharing a little about me so that we can get acquainted.
I'm Nicola Semple, an author, speaker, trainer and mindset coach helping women who are juggling work and family, to slow down, identify their priorities and have more fun.
WHO DO I HELP?
You have emerged from the baby years and are now stuck on a relentless hamster wheel, at work, at home or both.
They didn’t tell you at NCT class that your new skill set would involve short order cook, taxi driver and toilet unblocker!
You are constantly busy. Work. Family. School Run. Exercise (sometimes). Social life (rarely). Sleep. Repeat.
You are buckling under the mental load and you've had enough. This isn't what you signed up for but you don’t know how to change things or even what you need to change!
HOW CAN I HELP?
I can help you:
1. GET CLARITY on exactly what you want. So often we fall into the trap of busyness that we continue to create a life that we have fallen into rather than the one we actually want for ourselves. My superpower is asking exactly the right questions to help you unlock your deepest desires. It’s all there inside of you but sometimes you just need help to tease it out.
2. MANAGE YOUR MINDSET so that you eliminate all the 'stuff' stopping you from getting what you want. (HINT: This is the gamechanger and the good news is that we will work with scientifically proven techniques that get results.
3. STOP FAFFING with simple strategies to help you get productive. Whether you need a productivity overhaul or a few simple tweaks to help you get things done.
4. STAY ACCOUNTABLE and do what you say you will do. To get what you want, you need to take action. I will be your biggest cheerleader and greatest supporter but I will still hold you to account and give you a gentle kick in the backside when required.
If you read the above and thought ‘not me’ but you know somebody who fits the profile, please do tag them or share this post with them.
An easy deposit in the karma bank on a dreary Monday evening!
P.S. I'm going to be running a free workshop in early November to help you create our vision for 2020 and beyond. Keep an eye out
Ok! I'm ready to confess...
Here are 5 things you didn' t know about me!
1. I LOVE mint chocolate, anything, and everything mint chocolate!

3. I have never been out of the country.
4. I worked 2 summers when I was a teenager at the Office of General Counsel (all women attorneys)

Drop me a comment and spill some juicy secrets!
When your eyes 👀 have had enough of the computer (thanks floaters), it’s time to sneak away to an afternoon movie - by myself. Because I can. And for that I am so grateful. 🙏
I’ve been my own boss for over 17 years!🤗 But I haven’t always been good at taking advantage of the upside to being your own boss. In my early entrepreneurial days, I was so focused on the next thing. Going from project to project. Client to client. Task to task. Never feeling like I could take my foot off the pedal. I never really took the time to enjoy the perks of owning my own business. And instead I let the overwhelm get to me.
But with years comes wisdom. So I learned to resign as general manager of the universe. 😂 And now I make the time for myself, without guilt, without apology and without having to explain myself to anyone. So today it was going to an afternoon movie 🎥 just because I can and because I needed a break.
And I can’t think of a better way to spend a rainy ☔️ afternoon. Watching the story of an amazing rockstar Linda Ronstadt, who did things her way too! ❤️ So don’t be afraid to step away and make the time for yourself. You will gain more clarity, more focus and become even more productive. Remember you’re worth it!
Tag someone below 🧑⬇️ that needs this gentle reminder ♥️ PS: And yes I have the coolest boss ever 🤣🤣 #perksofbeingyourownboss#workhardplayharder#selfcare#bossbabe#boss#worklifebalance#worklifeblend#takecareofyou#momentummindset#entrepreneur#youreworthit#kimbecking#lindaronstadt#lindaronstadtmovie

Still love my #newnormal! People said I was brave to walk away from a senior executive position with no “real plan”. I wasn’t scared and I didn’t feel “brave”. I felt settled because life is WAY to short to spend a workday stressed. I was confident it would work out..... because it just had to 🤷🏼♀️. And boy did it ever! #lifeisforliving#selfcare#worklifeblend#carpediem 🙏🏻

What does this have to do with a small business lawyer? Bear with me... While Ice Cube may not have been referring to owning a small business when he laid that line down, it’s one that I find myself repeating both in running and at work.
Quick backstory on me- I was not a particularly coordinated nor athletically inclined kid. I was a skinny, glasses wearing, bookworm and awkward as all get out. I had written off sports until I discovered my talents lie in swimming and running. And not the glamour events- your #splashanddash (aka 50 free) or 100 meter dash. Nope. It was the 500 & 1650; in running, the 800, the mile, and eventually marathons and 50ks. I learned over the years that the distance forces me to R-E-L-A-X. Focus. Enjoy the Experience. And when I finally did that, I discovered I was an athlete after all.
It's the same in running a business; as entrepreneurs, we've got hustle out the wazoo. Lazy people don't take THIS on. But with that hustle, we have the tendency to overestimate what all we can do in a day, a week, a month.
Take launching on insta - when the girls @theediteffect were helping me- I told them I'd post every day. And do a blog! And a newsletter! Lucky for me, they helped me pump the brakes and see I was better off PACING myself.
And its the same when it comes to my work; I feel the urge to say "YES" to everything. But being the sole owner and operator, I know, I have to balance out all the "YES" with some "No" so that I can have enough time to do everything I do, with the attention it deserves, and not burn myself out.
It's a constant struggle to find that balance but I'm in it for the long haul. Who's with me? *BTW Anyone else love the movie “Save the Last Dance”?! Or just me?
