First time sitting down to paint or do any work since last week! If you’ve been watching my stories the last few days, then you know I’ve been having a pretty big flare up...hives, headaches, insomnia and crazy back pain are all things I’m pretty used to, but this flare up is worse than ever. Since being diagnosed with Hashimotos and battling with an under active thyroid since I was 13, I’ve had my share of flare ups. But this one has been a wake up call for me. I’ve been pushing myself and my career SO hard for the last 7+ years. Most days I work (pre baby especially) at least 12 hours a day, with the early days being more like 15-18. It’s not a badge of honor I just had to to keep up with everything.
Since this past January my business has been growing at the fastest rate it ever has. And while that’s so exciting, it also presents its challenges. How do I keep up? Who do I hire and when? Do I say yes to this? What if I pass up this opportunity? Etc. I know there are worse problems, but these hives that are covering my body and the demand the stress is putting on my ability to make milk for my child is a clear sign that I need to prioritize my health. Mentally, physically, emotionally. All of it! Allowing myself time and space to heal and prioritize my health...something I haven’t been good at lately. So, the goal of this rambly post? I dunno really. Just putting all this out there for accountability, but also to encourage all you hard workers out there to take care of yourself. You don’t get your time back! Building your business is important, but not while completely suffocating your own self. Take those breaks, go to that dinner with a friend, take a day off...you’ll be a stronger worker, mom, wife, friend, etc. for it! #jennarainey#watercolorfaces#artlicensing#watercolorart#artwork#emojiart#health#hashimotos#autoimmunedisease#worklifebalancegoals
This 👆🏻is exactly how I felt about going back to HR four months ago when I accepted a job offer. After a long career-break out of the profession, a few years working for myself, and a lifestyle that I knew would be hard to give up, I made the plunge and returned to the workplace.
Did I overthink it before I took the job? Hell yeah! Did I lose sleep before I started, afraid I’d know absolutely nothing and feel out of the business loop? Yep yep yep!
I went through so much in my head but like this quote says, in the end I realised I had to just go for it — and try! So what if it didn’t work out?! 🤷🏻♀️ Buuuuuuut what I’ve realised is how fast things come back to you and how transferable skills are (my social media and blogging skills have really shaped me as a person and I’ve grown in maturity too). Now, of course, it’s hard juggling a new career, a team, being a mum and managing a house 😬😬😬 - let’s not sugar coat it - it requires organisational skills on another level 👊🏻 but I’m doing it. I drop the ball occasionally and I get the awful Mum guilt, but I haven’t felt this fulfilled or rewarded or empowered in A LONG TIME.
So if you’re unsure, or worried, or scared of returning to a career or starting a new one, remember this quote and go for it. You’ll be surprised at yourself 💛

How to keep a work-life balance when you have kids, a full-time job, and a side-hustle?
I've been very busy. More than usual, like insane barely coping busy.
The end of the school year is a nightmare for parents. There are tons of events: rehearsals, parties, shows, auditions etc. There's also paperwork to pre-enroll kids for the next school year/ activities. For me, I have extra editing work because my clients want to submit their papers before the vacations. And this year, I also launched @mothersinscience with @talkingscience and run a pilot project for an outreach activity.
You get the gist. It’s a lot. But somehow I survived. Barely.
How do I cope?
1- Prioritize. In extra busy phases like this I know I won’t be able to do everything. Not well, anyway. And my clients and collaborators know I never compromise quality over quantity. Never. So I had to prioritize. I never stopped any of my work/projects, I just slowed down some of it (e.g. Instagram posts).
2- Take breaks. This is absolutely crucial. Taking breaks means switching off from work/chores (mental rest) and resting (physical rest). Every week I need to have one day, preferably the entire weekend, when I don’t think about work, chores, cleaning, problems etc, basically general mundane crap. I need to forget my to-do list for some time so I can recharge.
3- Social network. I always find time to have QUALITY time with my kids and friends IRL. I also chat/phone family/friends as regularly as possible. It’s impossible to stay balanced (and happy) if we don't talk and vent a little bit. I used to feel guilty about venting to my friends, but it’s necessary and of course I listen to them too. Friends aren't just for fun- we're here to support one another.
4- Sleep. Nobody can function without sleep. Over the past months/year I’ve made efforts to improve my sleep hygiene and it's made a HUGE difference. I can get by with not that much sleep for a few days, but it has to be good sleep, and then I need to catch up (usually weekends).
I wouldn’t say I have a work-life balance as I’m exhausted most of the time, but I’m happy and motivated so I guess I'm ok.
How do you cope with busy periods?
Fall in love with taking care of yourself; mind, body & soul. #helloautumn 💭 xx [ Anzeige || #sporty#ootd#fitnessmotivation#worklifebalancegoals ]

While chasing the “corporate dream”, I gladly met the expectations of long hours, being self-assertive, taking action and responsibility with the hope for growth and development in my career. I was “putting in my time”, as was the expectation. Little did I understand the true cost of meeting those expectations.
“Putting in the time” for me, meant putting myself second. I knew I felt drained but I thought that was normal with a “work hard” mentality. I didn’t pay attention to how feeling “tired” and “stuck” was actually affecting my personality and behavior.
I hardly socialized during the week. I didn’t have the energy to work out after work (and definitely not before). I didn’t pay any attention to food. I literally mindlessly ate while staring at my computer screen.
One day, I remember randomly thinking to myself, “when was the last time I laughed”? 🤔
I felt more stuck than I ever had and had no idea how long I had been there for.
I wasn’t fulfilled in my career. I felt like I had missed out on development of friendships by putting work first and I physically was uncomfortable in my body.
Finally recognizing that it wasn’t how I want to live my life, I knew that I needed to put myself FIRST. So I sought mentorship. ✨
I reignited my fire. 🔥
It is now my mission to help you reignite yours. 🔥🧡

Do you set work life balance goals??! 💕
We set goals in all other areas of our lives, but one area we neglect is our work life balance, and especially setting goals for time for ourselves! 💆🏼♀️ One of the best ways to avoid burnout is to practice self care!!! 🧖🏼♀️
When ever I feel close to burnout, I book myself a facial or a massage 💆🏼♀️ Not only does it give me something to look forward to, it’s very relaxing!! 🙇🏼♀️
Tell me, do you set work life balance goals?? 💫

Aww those days of childhood when you went outside and played with your friends.
Wait do kids actually still know how to do this?? These days it’s all about gaming and screens, kids are wrapped up so tight that they don’t have the joy we did. Like climbing a tree, going on treasure hunts or simply playing bat and ball against a wall.
We live in a world of technology and whilst I love it for my business needs and the advances it has brought us, it makes me sad that kids just don’t have the same childhood as we did. They seem to grow up a lot faster and know a lot more, the innocence of an eight year old just isn’t there.
So when I saw this image from @leannemagill from my wedding it give me the biggest smile. No matter how grown up they seem, they still really are just kids 😍

𝐅𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐲? ✨That's ok! ✨
Sometimes you can change a lot, through mindset exercises. And sometimes not.
Sometimes distraction helps. Sometimes not.
The important thing is that you do not put pressure on you. Because it is normal. Accept the feeling of loneliness, sadness or what you are feeling right now will help you more than when you try to push it aside or ignoring it.
It is OK!

THURSDAY + PAYDAY = NEW DO
Last night I went to my hair appointment KNOWING I would wake up today with (more than) enough money to cover it.👌 (because let's be honest, getting your hair done is expensive but totally worth it!) Same goes for your nails, your skin care, or whatever it is YOU do to make your outside match with your incredible inside! 💛
With the extra income I've made being a coach, we were able to pay off my husband's brand new truck in less than 2 years. I have paid for (3) flights for 2 trips this winter - plus have a pretty good pile of spending cash! 💃 All of my Beachbody products (and you've seen how many I use!) are paid for in full each month. I have even paid for event tickets, flights, and deposits on hotel rooms for events happening in 2020! Oh, and my credit card NEVER has a balance.👍 I would love to tell you more about what I do as a coach! Are you ready to take a leap of faith - just as I did - and see for yourself how freaking incredible this opportunity is? 💫 It takes work, commitment and dedication - but it's 100% worth it! Remember, this is a job - so you gotta work at it. (but it's so much FUN, it doesn't really feel like work at all!) 💌
Now let me ask you, what would you do with your extra money?
Team Beachbody® does not guarantee any level of success or income from the Team Beachbody Coach Opportunity. Each Coach's income depends on his or her own efforts, diligence, and skill.
Yesterday was the first of many meetups. We had all the fun talking tips, tools, and to-do’s. Already looking forward to the next one! Info in bio or DM is with questions.

WINGING IT (AKA JUST GETTING ON WITH YOUR SHIT) IS WITHOUT A DOUBT LIBERATING.⠀
But what I have found since starting my little company of one, is that you can only wing it to a point! (read my blog about why 12 week planning will help you get more time back and feel more focused - link in my bio ☝)⠀
When I left the corporate world of marketing and brand styling, I totally and utterly rejected anything I saw as corporate...I said to myself and everyone...."I'm just gonna wing it!!!!" So planning went right out the window, as I just saw the words strategy - AKA Corporate Shackles!!!! NOOOOOOO!⠀
But as time went on I realised I needed some kind of plan as I was spending my days drifting, lethargic, muddled, stressed, watching what everyone else was doing, instead of focusing on my own shizzle. I lost confidence if I am honest with you.⠀
Comparison kicked in (they are better than me), self doubt (why have I done this), impostor syndrome (who am I to think I can do this) and the list goes on!⠀
So after some serious inner work (and a huge conversation with my poor other half) I took that chip right off my shoulder, and identified what had served me well in my career. Instead of rejecting all that I had learned, I embraced it. (Now this is a whole other story for another time!)⠀
Creating a plan was one thing I had learnt that had ALWAYS given me the structure I craved, but with room for fluidity, which I need!! Now I don't mean a 2 year business strategy that I sat down with Mr Nat West over a cup of tea and planned out every second and every penny of my life for the next two years! ⠀
What I mean is that I created a plan that had some key goals on, that once I achieved, I would be proud of. Goals that worked towards my BIG VISION, my little business growth and that allowed me to grow personally. ⠀
My little plan was simple (yes) and only over three months, just 12 itty bitty weeks. But by having some kind of focus as to where I wanted to be in three months and how I needed to get there by doing something each week to take me there....the result? More confidence, more focused, less confusion and goodbye Mrs Ovwerwhelm 🙏🏼

Endless hustle/grind/repeat wears grooves in your soul. Mama, you are allowed to say...no.
ALIGN 💖 loving this quote from @freelancingfemales . You can’t be the best version of you if you’re always saying yes to everyone and trying to do everything. #wednesdaywisdom

“I’ll sign up next time round, I’m happy to slowly try and grow my business on my own because I’m not planning on leaving my 9-5 any time soon!”
This is what I said to myself when I thought about investing in a group program at the beginning of this year. 🙅🏼♀️
I was too scared to tell myself that the job I had worked so hard to get promoted at multiple times wasn’t fulfilling me anymore and I couldn’t see a future there.
I’ve always coached in different capacities over the last 4.5 years, but when I brought my business online I realised that coaching really was where my passion lies, and it brings me so much fulfillment.
Even though I wasn’t ready to admit I wanted to leave, I still invested. 🙌🏻
Because subconsciously I knew I wanted to start learning how I could grow my business.
Once I learnt all the things and realised I do actually want to grow my business so I can leave my 9-5, I was BALLS TO THE WALL planning how to actually take all of this knowledge forward and work towards leaving my 9-5!!
And THE EXIT PLAN is an amalgamation of alllll that plus MUCH MORE!! 🦄
I’ve really made sure everything is covered in this program to really get you off and away towards leaving your 9-5!
Here’s just a taste of what we’re going to cover in our 8 weeks together 👇🏻
✅Mindset work so that you actually THINK and FEEL it’s possible to leave your 9-5 very soon!
✅Income Generating tasks so you can stop being confused about what you actually NEED to be doing in your spare time to grow and scale your business!
✅Productivity so you never have to look at your to-do list at the end of the day feeling disheartened!
✅Business Strategy so you can feel confident that you’re doing the right things to attract and sign more clients, and move your business forward!

How good are you at juggling?
#mumlife can be crazy! Do you feel like it’s a frantic juggle waiting for one of the balls to drop (because you are not alone!) or do you have the balanced mum life down to an art?
Whether you are a career woman, a stay at home mum or a work from home mum there are times where it gets tough and we feel like we aren’t being a good enough mum/ partner/ friend/ employee!
Here are some tips to help you feel more balanced:
💛 be PRESENT fully dedicate your time to what you are doing in that moment, whether that is family time, you are at work or at the gym savouring your time doing these things will help you feel more content.
💛Accept HELP, if a loved one offers to look after the baby so you can go out for coffee, go and enjoy that coffee! & ask for help if you need it. We all need help sometimes, even when you are ill you still have to mum 💪🏼
💛 Make YOU a priority, it sounds crazy, you are struggling to juggle your little ones social life, housework and family as it is, but if you don’t spend time doing things you enjoy you will burn out.
I’m so bad at switching off from work 🙈 how do you switch off? Book and box set recommendations please! 👇🏼💛
