On Friday I get to share a body of work that I’ve quite literally poured my soul into, as my “Note to Self” exhibition begins with an opening reception 6-8pm at @rivchurch’s REO Town venue 🌿
Every single painting is created in response to a reminder - a truth - I have deeply learned and choose to walk into each day with. There are so many stories, thoughts, and beautiful metaphors behind each title. My soul is so very poured into each one.
But, these notes to self are not meant to be to kept to myself. I hope they speak to your soul. I hope they spark long conversations. I hope you may bring some of these truths into your days, too. I hope they inspire and compel you to recognize what truths - what notes to self - God is teaching you.
I hope to see you Friday night. I think we’ll have really good conversation, and there’s definitely going to be a lot of art 💛
Another little painting that fell victim to my endless need of new surfaces.
I hope I still have that reference, would love to revisit it. Very large would be fun.
This is one of my first attempts at oil. Thought I was working on a traditional grisalle underpainting, but realized that I love the warm glow of canvas showing through and the ability to hide ambiguous background objects into shadows.
Note to self. Will revisit for sure
Plaiting Amalie's Hair by Dora Holzhandler 1950s Oil on Canvas
Self portrait with Dora' s first daughter Amalie getting ready for school. This was one of Dora's favourite pictures and it stayed on her wall and was never offered up for sale.
