Let's play a game called, what makes a whiskey?🥃 There are 4 main requirements. What are they?👇
Extra points if you don't Google it.
Rarely I do an old fashioned, usually prefer a rocks pour, but sometimes the effort is worth it. Woodford I think is best, the nose of dried fruit and vanilla bounce nicely off the freshly muddled orange. A little club soda ties it in a bow, but that’s just me. 🍊🥃 #woodfordreserve#whiskey#oldfashioned
Jeff eating steak sounds just like @EugeneMirman as Gene on Bob’s Burgers.

John, the Tide Pods are for the laundry. It’s seems you’ve been snacking on them. Or you’re just a complete asshole.

Been wanting to experience the Bourbon Trail for ages and finally found myself with some time on my hands to do it.
First stop was @heavenhilldistillery to enjoy some Elijah Craig single barrel with some garlic parm popcorn.
Second Stop was @fourrosesbourbon to enjoy fruit plate with their excellent single barrel.
Up next was @jimbeamofficial to enjoy their single barrel with fresh baked pretzel bites.
Fourth up was @oldforester with a pair of offerings that highlighted their range (and intensity!) of flavors.
Fifth was @buffalotracedistillery where we sampled some of the all time greats including Weller, Eagle Rare, Blanton’s, Stagg Jr., and their classic Buffalo Trace. Some pulled pork sliders helped absorb the many pours we had.
After crawling out of Buffalo Trace (a mere 4 hours after arriving) we hit our final stop, @wildturkey, for a home made cardamom ice cream cone and a splash of Russell’s Reserve 10 Year.
It was a super memorable and fun way to “get away for the weekend” and compare some great bourbons side by side.

Since handshakes spread germs, let’s just smack asses from now on.
#day30 the last and final day of #bourbonheritagemonth is only fitting and also one of my favorite bottles in my collection.... Booker’s 30th Anniversary. On the final day of #30daysofbourbon I look back on a month full of bourbon/American history, good times, and good bourbons!
www.whiskay.com We rarely post Kavalan, but for this one we are happy to make an exception. This single sherry cask from 2006 and bottled in 2014 has been rated 90 points out of 100 by @whiskynotes and even 91 points by @whiskyfun!! 🏆We are the only shop in the world which still gives you this opportunity to question Ruben’s judgement yourself🤓😉. Exclusively bottled for the USA by @whiskysifu with a 750 ml size. However, he couldn’t help himself to crack so many that the initial outturn of 479 bottles is much much less😱😱😱
Opening a new bottle tonight that we picked up on our daily walk from @thegoodspiritscoclarencedrive in Hyndland. They are still open and running a counter service operation. This is Cask Islay by independent bottler A.D Rattray. I haven’t done much reading about where the bottle might be from but safe assumption would be Caol Ila. Nothing like other Caol Ilas I’ve tucked into recently though so I have my doubts. Tastes more like a Bowmore to me. Very light on the nose for a peated whisky. Some toffee notes on the palate with light smoke and a slightly smokey finish. Not a dram for packing a big punch but good for a summer’s evening 🥃☀️
And tbh, more than one of the projects I've mentioned in the past, are actually finished and ready to be released...I'm just hesitating, as I wrestle with my own lack of self-confidence. And also, trying to figure which one to release first.

The Balvenie DCS Compendium is David’s handover of this knowledge in both written and liquid form. David has selected 25 extremely rare and significant vintage single cask whiskies to be released over five years, capturing the breadth of his achievement and contributions to his craft.
THE INFLUENCE OF OAK
The Balvenie DCS Compendium Chapter Two features five extremely rare single-cask single malt whiskies and highlights the complex manner in which different oak casks influence the flavour of The Balvenie during the maturation process. David Stewart MBE pioneered double cask maturation, or finishing, during his career at The Balvenie and this chapter showcases his vast knowledge and understanding of this process. The whiskies in Chapter Two, range in age from 15 years to 43 years, with each of the casks chosen by David imparting their own distinct flavour profile to the final expression.
The five whiskies in Chapter Two are:

A NEW tasting thanks to @caskcartel#caskcartel Im sampling some Yellowstone Select and Yellowstone 2019 - 9 Year.
Nose: I get a solid baseline of toasted Oak with layers of vanilla and caramel. I also get a touch of a peach note that is really enjoyable
Palate: the baseline of toasted Oak continues with a predominant vanilla/dark cherry note on the back end.
Finish: A great finish with some lingering oils. I get a sweet oak finish that stays true throughout.
Overall: I definitely think this is a great whiskey. I think the nose is my favorite because of that sweet peach note.
Yellowstone - 2019 9 Year
Nose: a beautiful nose. I’m getting a couple of layers. Toasted/Spicy Oak returns. I’m getting some allspice with Vanilla and Orange floating under it
Palate: Oak and Orange are the main notes on the Palate. I am getting a little bit of the sweet peach on the Palate which I really enjoy!
Finish: A long and lingering finish. I really enjoy it. Notes of Oak and Citrus throughout and ends with that allspice note
Overall: I really enjoyed this Bourbon. Tons of flavors and nuance! I would recommend it if you can get your hands on it for the right price!
