Here we have a giant of a #whisky: The Bunnahabhain 40 year old single malt #scotch. Plenty of tropical fruit on the nose, sweet caramel and pineapple on the palate, and a lovely long, sweet, fruity finish. Who’d like to try this #whiskey?! 🥃🙋♂️
The older I get, the more I just want to sit around in gym attire ALL DAMN DAY. But alas, sometimes I do have to wear businessy things.
But I digress, today, while it’s raining in July, I’ve been thinking about how weather can affect the way we taste whisky. But let me dive further into that for you - when we talk about aging whisky, often climate comes into play. Kentucky has more angel’s share than Scotland. But the Caribbean has more angel’s share than Kentucky and so on.
But here’s the thing, whisky that is barreled at the same time at the same distillery can still taste rapidly different. And it has everything to do with WHERE in the warehouse it’s stored. Take one barrel and age it on the bottom floor, where it’s cooler and it will have less interaction with the wood and less evaporation than barrels that are stored at the top of the warehouse. Hot air rises, meaning the top of the warehouse could be 10 or 15 degrees warmer than the bottom, impacting the intensity of maturation.
Nevertheless, what are you drinking on this rainy day today? Let me know in the comments below.
Everyone loves a cheap thrill. And while we offer all our house spirits from $4-6, we spare no expense in our selection. We place a lot of pride in our wells with an average bottle cost of $20.
For the next 5 weeks we’ll be showcasing each of our well selections. This week we are starting with our whiskey, Four Roses Yellow Label. Four Roses uses 2 different mash bills and 5 different yeast strains to create 10 unique bourbon recipes. All 10 of the recipes are typically blended together to create Yellow. This bourbon is lightweight with tastes of chocolate and caramel along with hints of apples and pears. It is one of our favorites here at The Fill Station.
Also, don’t forget about our half price whiskey flights every Wednesday!
