My answer to What does a veterinarian think about the behavior of these cats? They look sick and maybe sedated, and their caretakers look like they’re expressing their glands several times a day, is this normal? https://www.quora.com/What-does-a-veterinarian-think-about-the-behavior-of-these-cats-They-look-sick-and-maybe-sedated-and-their-caretakers-look-like-they-re-expressing-their-glands-several-times-a-day-is-this-normal/answer/Rochelle-Pritchett-1?share=9778c65e …
Hey, all you cool cats and kittens. 🐅🐅 #tigerking
Well, I think everyone in quarantine can agree this short and sweet series was freaking WILD. I cannot believe people like this actually exist in real life. But, after binging all 7 eps, the dark truth of the final credits is what resonated the most with me.
“Between 5,000 and 10,000 tigers live in captivity in the US, but fewer than 4,000 tigers remain in the wild.” Absolutely gut-wrenching, huh?
Please stop exploiting these animals. They do not belong in roadside zoos, and they are NOT pets. The future of tigers in the U.S. remains to be seen. As long as tourists continue to seek tiger cubs to pet and cuddle and are dazzled by the sight of hybrid cats—and as long as U.S. policies ease the owning of wild cats—the formula for abuse will remain in place.
(Also, no one grosses me out more than Doc Antle. 🤢)
We never made it to the clinic, my little kitty died in my arms yesterday.
She lived 6 months longer than the veterinarian's most optimistic estimate.
But I'm feeling much better today. Still deeply sad, but the immense existential emptiness has subsided.
I will miss you annie

(English version below) Nero en Pepper.
Nero: cane corso💪🏾, 5 jaar, 63 kilo.
Pepper: boerenfox😉, 13 weken, 5 kilo.
Allebei hartstikke leuke honden!
Nero and Pepper. They arrived at our veterinary clinic at exactly the same time last Friday but no reason for panic because fortunately we have two DIFFERENT locations: Nero went to see doctor Bas at clinic Maassluis, and Pepper went to see doctor Marjolein at dierenkliniek de Polder.
Nero: cane corso💪🏾, 5 years old, 63 kilos.
Pepper: farmer’s fox😉, 13 weeks old, 5 kilos.
Important SIMILARITY: Both fantastic dogs! #dierenkliniek#dierenarts#dierenkliniekdepolder#dierenkliniekmaassluis#maassluis#maasdijk#maasland#westland

Dr. L. Bruce Hornstein, a veterinarian and irises expert who established SanSouci Nursery, dies https://www.halethorpe.com/dr-l-bruce-hornstein-a-veterinarian-and-irises-expert-who-established-sansouci-nursery-dies/ …
Treatment of the Gastroenteritis Patient: Assuming he tested negative to parvovirus (see separate parvovirus post)
1. Intravenous fluids at appropriate dehydration rates (taking into account ongoing losses from diarrhoea and vomiting)
2. Pain relief (methadone or buprenorphine)
3. Treat the underlying disease process aka. GIARDIA —> metronidazole + fenbendazole .
I only administer maropitant (Cerenia) once I have a diagnosis as to the underlying cause. Done imaging/assessed for faecal parasites - yes, yes yes, you all get anti nausea medication!
No diagnostics - I’ll hold off - Why? Because once you give this potent antinausea medication you are covering up one of the only ways a patient can tell us if they are improving or not! 🤔
We over use them - I reach for this medication if the patient is experiencing constant regurgitation, or developing haematemesis. .
Chronic hemorrhagic diarrhoea over 72 hours - yes, leukopenia - yes, giardiasis - yes. Otherwise, not indicated for your standard gastro patient. .
APPROPRIATE FLUID THERAPY is the mainstay treatment of gastroenteritis patients. Not just popping the patient on 2x maintenance. Consider - current dehydration rates, maintenance rates and ongoing losses.
Thoughts? Different to what you expected? 🐶

What big blue eyes you have!! 💙💙 These Siamese kittens visited the practice for their first vaccinations.
Although all kittens are born with blue eyes, most will change colour as they get older. However Siamese cats are lucky enough to keep this stunning trait life long.
Aren’t they just beautiful?

Let’s end this ruff week with lots of pawsitivity! ❤️ What is something fun you are doing this weekend? Let me know down below 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻
I’m looking forward to spending more time with my family this weekend and hoping to watch a movie with them (Please let me know if you have any movie recs 😁 Thank you)
I have been bombarded with questions related with your companion animal's role for COVID-19 in people!! Let me throw some light on this matter.
Until now there is ZERO evidence that dogs and cats can be carriers of COVID-19 or human gets infection from them. Although 2 dogs in Hong Kong were tested 'WEAK POSITIVE 'for corona virus, it was likely to be the case of human-to-animal transmission not vice versa!!! Pets also don't act as 'fomites'for this vicious COVID-19 virus by carrying aerosolized germs on their fur as they say porous and fibrous surface like pet fur are less likely to transmit the virus. But pets can carry other germs that can get you sick😖 So I recommend hand washing with soap after being with your pet and also cover your mouth and nose with elbow when coughing and sneezing!! Right now it's a topsy-turvy world out there, let your fur babies comfort you🥰 GUYS PLEASE DON'T DISTANCE /ABANDON A FURRY FAMILY MEMBER 🙏Physical distancing with a friend might make perfect sense though!#stayhome #staysafe#covid#covid_19#petcare#hygiene#washyourhands#vet#veterinarian#letsfightcoronavirus

Maybe one of the positives of this pandemic is that we won’t be as military obsessed. Maybe we can now realize the flag belongs to everyone equally, whether they’re a vet, veterinarian, ICU nurse, trash man, or teacher. pic.twitter.com/DW4Pp1QBC4

Lulu is doing amazing work after a scapulectomy 💪 💦 😊
– Be sure all vaccines are up to date in the event boarding becomes necessary.
– Have proof of current vaccinations If you do not have paperwork, contact your veterinarian for records (a digital copy on a mobile device is acceptable proof).

Indeed, indeed.....and yet, one would presume that a veterinarian noting this case would only note it if it were a *novel* event. Right? Such as "never seen these symptoms before in a feline...for any previously known Corona virus".

We watched an episode last night...made us really sad...those animals need to be in real zoos or their natural environments. These 2 men never once spoke about veterinarian care for these animals...
7 C'S TO BUILD A GREAT TEAM:
✔️Communication ✔️Commitment ✔️Contagious Energy ✔️Caring ✔️Consistency
Many times we came to work on our days off to help our team with surgeries and other procedures. It's great to know there's always someone you can call and ask for help 💫💕 You can see Magda in her active wear performing ultrasound before exploratory laparotomy.
I’ve never been more proud to be a Barco ambassador!
Barco will be donating 10,000 scrubs per month for the duration of this global pandemic to help healthcare teams in need.

@SophHurt I’m a veterinarian. I’m exhausted with following pandemic protocols in clinic. My heart goes out to human healthcare heroes who face much greater threats. My son’s a doctor, too. Be safe. We love you.

Bom dia ♥️✨ passando pra desejar um domingo maravilhoso e um bom início de semana ♥️
TRACHEAL COLLAPSE is a disease caused by a weakening of the dorsal tracheal membrane, or a weakness in the cartilagenous rings, or both. Perhaps a better term for the condition is “dynamic airway disease” as it can affect one or all of the cervical trachea, intrathoracic trachea and mainstem bronchi. It affects middle aged to older dogs. It is exacerbated by obesity, can occur hand in hand with cardiac disease, and for reasons not completely understood, many affected patients have hepatomegally and an increase in liver enzymes. Other concurrent diseases may include the BOAS complex and laryngeal paralysis. Typical history includes an intermittent goose honk cough, which may or may not be exacerbated by exercise, heat, pressure on the trachea, excitement, eating or drinking. X-rays do not always demonstrate the collapse, as it is dynamic. Take both left and right lateral views, in inspiration and expiration. Endoscopy and fluoroscopy may be needed. Patients may present in acute respiratory distress, with either an inspiratory or expiratory dyspnoea, depending on the location of the collapse. Emergency treatment in this case must include stabilisation with oxygen +/- sedation (butorphanol +/- acepromazine) and low stress handling, before any diagnostics are attempted. Long term the condition is managed, not cured. Weight loss is a must, switch from a collar to a harness, address respiratory irritants such as second hand cigarette smoke. Medications that may be of benefit are short courses of steroids, bronchodilators (theophylline, albuterol), and antitussives (codeine). Stenting surgery is available through specialist centers but is not without risk so should only be considered for severe cases where other managements have failed. #trachealcollapse#dynamicairwaydisease#veterinaryradiology#vetstudent#vetmentor#perthvet#veterinarian#vetmed
