Today we keep in our hearts and minds those who have been murdered as a result of transphobia. It is a day to draw attention to the continued violence endured by transgender people, specifically, transgender people of color.
Worldwide, there has been a total of 331 cases of reported killings of trans and gender-diverse people between Oct. 1, 2018, and Sept. 30, 2019. This has to stop. We must support our beautiful trans community and fight for them just like they fought for so many of our rights as members of the #lgbtq community. We are not free until we are ALL free. We are not safe until we are all safe. As Martha P. Johnson once said, “How many years has it taken people to realize we are all brothers and sisters and human beings in the human race?” We all deserve the right to be happy, the right to exist and the right to be free. What will you do today to help create awareness for our #trans brothers and sisters?
