Learning the cello has been a very slow process but it has also been really rewarding. I love being able to layer my sample strings with real cello (even if I have to tune it a bit lol), there is something special about having aspects of human performance in my tracks, giving the music a quality that technology never could. 🖥🎻🎶
I never played classical piano as a kid. Growing up as a classic rock guitar/bass player the piano seemed far out of my reach. It wasn’t until the end of high school that I saw an ad in the paper entitled “free piano”, so I convinced my parents that we should get it. I rounded up some buddies and my Uncle’s car trailer and went to pick it up. What followed were the last 6 years of learning the instrument by myself, using my knowledge of music theory that I’ve had throughout the years. If I never saw that newspaper ad I honestly don’t know if I would have started playing this beautiful instrument. Without the piano my compositional style as a film composer would be very limited. I am grateful to say the least 🎹🙏✨

Big music plans for the summer season!! In the coming months I am planning to change it up and release a new single with lyrics, which I haven’t done at all under my “Brock Hewitt: Stories in Sound” artist name. I’ve always thought of my brand as being more of a soundtrack/instrumental genre, but with some new found inspiration I am going to be breaking the barriers and trying out some new things. I’m so pumped for you guys to hear the music!! In addition, we will continue to pump out some @spadebrookslofi tracks and I will be releasing another full length @brockhewittstories instrumental album as well as Music for Film, Vol. 3, which will be a compilation of my latest work for this year’s set of films!! Stoked to keep the grind going as we move into the warmer weather. More announcements coming soon regarding release dates 🤘🏻☀️#goszn

It's always so exciting to receive the printed parts to my new compositions. It's what makes the piece finally feel real prior to the performance. This one will get its premiere tomorrow with the @brantfordsymphonyorchestra with Horn soloists @diane_doig, Neil Spaulding, Christine Passmore and Timothy Lockwood.
It's been quite a week compositionally, starting with a studio recording with @odinquartet of a piece I wrote 3 years ago, followed by 3 performances of a compete reimagining of Carmen for which I wrote a new score based on Bizet's melodies, then the premiere of my latest orchestral commission, Holiday for Horns, and finishing off with a performance on Sunday with Odin Quartet in Aurora, which will feature the same piece we recorded on Monday (to bring it fill circle). I feel very lucky that musicians and organizations have been embracing my music and performing it enthusiastically.
