Replacing the pots, switches, adding a Sprague orange drop cap and doing the Gilmore mod to my Strat. I figured I might as well shield it with copper while I'm under the hood. #stratocaster#fender#mod#gilmore

Do y’all like oversized headstocks like the ones found on the late 60’s and 70’s strats? Growing up, I didn’t. But overtime they’ve really grown on me, and now I would say I prefer them! I think it’s because my late 60’s strat has an oversized headstock. Also, there’s this guy named Jimi Hendrix who occasionally played strats with oversized headstocks. Maybe you’ve heard of him? Let me know what y’all think about the oversized headstocks!

Janie upgrades step 3 complete. I preformed a fret leveling. After over five years, the frets have been worn down from playing creating dips where the strings sit when pressed down, causing tuning and playing problems. Fret leveling is a process of using a straight beam with sand paper along the top of the frets (making sure the neck itself is straight first, of course), which gets all the frets to the same height. As seen in the pics, you can sharpie the top of the frets, and then just keep going til all the sharpie is all gone on the top ensuring the height is consistent with no more dips in the frets. When this is done, the top of the frets are flat, and need to be reshaped to a curve with a crowning file. Finally, I finished them off with polishing compound and a polishing wheel on the Dremel, and some 0000 steel wool, getting them nice and shiny. Not only do the frets look better, but intonation and tuning will be much better, as well as being able to perform higher bends, as the worn down frets would cause some bends to die out very quickly because of the uneven height between the frets. This was a time consuming and tedious task, but was more than worth it in the end, and honestly very satisfying to do. Now finally ready for some strings and a set-up, and Janie will be ready to rock again. #guitar#electricguitar#fenderguitar#fender#fenderstrat#fenderstratocaster#stratocaster#strat#luthier#luthiery#tools
