Happy Veterans Day to all our service women and men. We salute you! 🇺🇸 “Leaving my daughter behind is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. She was two when I began a year-long deployment in Iraq in 2007. She was going to turn three while I was away, and I wouldn’t even be able to see her on her birthday – this was in the days before internet video calls. My biggest fear was that she would forget who I was. [When I returned home], I got off the tram from the runway, a gentleman from the USO – the nonprofit organization that works with the uniformed services – came forward to greet me, as they do all returning servicemen and women. He put out his hand and said, ‘Welcome home, Captain.’ I knew that my then husband George (we’ve since divorced) and Gaby would be waiting for me somewhere. And sure enough, just as I reached to shake the USO man’s hand, I heard this beautiful, familiar voice shouting, ‘Mommy!’ All I could do was zone to the left, where the voice was coming from, and run across the airport. I remember sliding on my knees and grabbing Gaby; I couldn’t let go of her for one second. She kept saying, ‘Mommy, I missed you.’ I was crying tears of joy for the fact that Gaby hadn’t forgotten me. When I finally came up for air, I saw that every single person in that airport was crying, too. Men, women – I kid you not: they were all just bawling." - Major Terri Gurrola

We don’t realize how big of an impact our thoughts have on our body. Just by saying you’re tired you can convince yourself that you are. People literally convince themselves that they’re tired when in reality they have another gear. Change the narrative, don’t tell yourself that you’re tired. Watch what you tell yourself, especially if it’s the easy way out. It’s a trap.

If you want results you have to commit to something. There’s a reason the biggest motivator for working out is when we’re working towards a date like a vacation (beach body), wedding, marathon spartan race etc. We won’t study if the test doesn’t have a date and we won’t produce if our job didn’t depend on it. There needs to be a date set on your calendar multiple times a year for you to actually hold yourself accountable. Most people aren’t disciplined enough to do it without that external motivation. How many times have you heard the story of the person who had to change their health because they got a medical scare? They finally had to commit to being healthy or the grim reaper would come calling. So my words of wisdom is to always have something on the calendar. Want to learn an instrument? Set a date where you’ll play in front of your friends, want to workout everyday? Sign up for a marathon or spartan race. Want to learn a new skill? Sign up for tests like you were back in school. Commit!

#SpartanUltraWC2019

Three days until one of the most epic events of the year. Tune in Sunday, Nov. 17 for coverage of the 2019 Spartan Para Team Race. Here, nothing is impossible.
Meditating has become a trend this decade and I’m all for it.
I think with the craziness of notifications and social media in the modern day it’s imperative to calm your mind at some point in the day.
Sometimes we don’t even realize how much our brain is working by always thinking of something. So to be able to shut it off is not only healthy for us but provides needed clarity.
Do you meditate? Comment yes or no.
Two points from this awesome online client:
1️⃣ Scales aren't always the best way to track progress. Especially with strength training, where you can be putting on muscle as quickly as you're losing fat (so staying the same weight, but actually getting leaner). This is why tape measurements, increasing lifts, checking how your clothes & energy levels feel, progress pics and even compliments can be more effective.
2️⃣ If a program is working... Stick with it! Programs will eventually stall out, but if you keep "workout jumping", it will be challenging to see progress.
Sometimes you just need to reduce your world to a little green light to wash the day away... 6 mile fun run before back to back Spartans this weekend and finishing this year’s trifecta! Then it’s just the CIM and 2019 is a wrap!! See everyone out on the course, Aroo!!
“Nothing on this goddamn ring, planet thing makes any sense. Our escape pod landed in the middle of a mountain range. From the moment we landed we’ve been hunted by Banshees. We started with twenty Marines, and now only four of us are left. In the midst of madness, all we can count on is each other.” - Corporal Aaron Gates #tcb_partners
