“Harry, there is never a perfect answer in this messy, emotional world. Perfection is beyond the reach of humankind, beyond the reach of magic. In every shining moment of happiness is that drop of poison: the knowledge that pain will come again. Be honest to those you love, show your pain. To suffer is as human as to breathe.”✨
My grandpa read me the Harry Potter books. When we got to the Half Blood Prince, I remember crying shamelessly on his lap. To me, losing Dumbledore was like a bullet to the heart, as to my seven year old self, my Grandpa was my Dumbledore. I had already read the books, but the impact was worse the second time around. I felt what Harry felt. I looked up to Dumbledore like I looked up to him, and so losing Dumbledore felt like losing a loved one - like losing my Grandpa.
The Wizarding World is precious. For some, certain characters may take the place of someone missing from their life. For others, a certain character may embody the qualities of someone they love. The emotional attachment to fictional characters like Dumbledore is inevitable. They become a part of the family, and it feels as though you could take a seat at the dinner table next to them like they’re really there.
Dumbledore’s death still hits me hard. I’m older now and I understand that he was flawed, but it still hurts. He was part of my family - still is - and he’ll always have a seat at the table♥️
