My boys kept wanting to get at the bucket in the back of the ATV. It has a magnesium powder in it that they were all keen to get to. If they don’t have enough magnesium in their diet they die. I’m so glad they let me know what they need.
An overcast day can be a wonderful opportunity to highlight detail in very contrasted wildlife such as herons, but it can also assist in bringing out the details in reflective species like reptiles. The sheen on the scales can be hard to capture in bright sunlight, and the wonderful mosaic of scales easily disappears. .
I found this little Stimsons Python whilst hiking in the desert in central Australia. It was a grey day but the heat was high and the promise of rain was in the air. Flat conditions for landscape imagery, but ideal for highlighting the delicate nuance of the snakes head. .

The sensational Living Reef coral lagoon at Daydream Island Resort had me captivated for hours, last week. Whip-tail rays, shovelnose rays, bannerfish, cod, wrasse, tuskfish and sea stars, and many other marine creatures, share the 200m-long lagoon that hugs the resort.
Continually flushed with fresh seawater, you can view up close, life on the Great Barrier Reef either from the underwater observatory, or on a guided snorkelling tour with the creatures themselves. I was lucky enough to enjoy both, joining the legendary marine biologist, @Johnny_gaskell. During this travel assignment, snorkelling with Johnny and the playful rays was the absolute highlight of my trip to the Whitsundays. When those rays look directly into your eyes as they ballet past you, it’s a life-affirming moment.
Thank you SO much, Johnny - I already can’t wait to return.
