The flower scene from #FriendWithDeath was one of my favorite shots to shoot. I had cut thousands of tiny flower shapes and individually mounted them into the base of the piece. I also had planned to use real rocks for the base that I found during a hike in New Jersey but it turned out the rocks were to large in scale. The caveat was to use the real rocks as texture stamps which wound up working out better being that I could customize their shape and color.
It was the most beautiful light this afternoon so I downed tools and finally got round to photographing work that will be going in my web shop next week. I've set the date for my shop opening for a week today - Thursday 24th October at 7pm UK time. It will be a fairly small number of pieces - I'm hoping around 15 bottles, pods and (kiln gods permitting) a couple of drift vessels. So I have a few days of computer work ahead 🤨 and I've banned myself from the studio until it's done!
Two new Carved 'Shift' Disc vessels that I've been working on this week for a special commission. The larger of the two is quite big - about 35cm tall - so will be quite a challenge when it comes to glazing. Because of the texture on my work I find that dipping in glaze gives much better results but finding a large enough bucket becomes a challenge for these large flat disc shapes. I posted a couple of short videos of work in progress on these two in my stories this morning.
Couldn't resist this photo opportunity at Ayia Napa's Sculpture Park.
