For my #EcoYOUin52 project, each week I am changing one small aspect of my lifestyle that will help me become more #eco-friendly .
You can read more detail about this week’s subject at:
This week: An act of service
Transport is one of the top 3 major causes of #greenhousegas ( #GHG) emissions.
For this reason, I really want to get an electric car (but more on that next week). If we don’t have particularly eco-cars, we can still:
Increase our fuel economy
Reduce our #carbonfootprint
(a.k.a. #CO2 emissions, a.k.a #Carbondioxide equivalents ( #CO2e ). The RAC published 11 ways to increase fuel economy.
I was forced to address number 5 (tyres!) this month, when I kept getting a warning light on my dashboard ⚠️ It cost me the price of a service and four new tyres.
However this is good news!
Did you know that tyres generally lose up to 2 psi/month and even dashboard alarms don’t always alert you to this.
In fact, tyres can be regularly 10 psi below recommended levels, reducing fuel economy by 10%. According to calculations by the US Environmental Protection Agency, I could save about 5L of fuel per tank, or 11.7 kg CO2 equivalents or £6.25 per tank.
That’s better than those ‘1p off every litre of fuel’ vouchers that you can get from a supermarket.
You can help save the planet and save money by checking your tyres regularly and servicing your car.
Even though nature looks beautiful and a lot of people might say that we are fine, the earth is burning and the generation of now won’t be able to live as long as their ancestors#photography #waterfountain#savetheplanet

My name is Plastic Bag. Do you know me? I am cheap. You can buy me anywhere. People always throw me to the ground where I live my life so many years until someone recycles me.
Please don’t throw me to the ground, I don’t like it.
Et voilà! Qui a parlé de 2040 ? #plasticpollution#savetheplanet https://www.lemonde.fr/planete/article/2019/06/10/le-canada-va-interdire-les-plastiques-a-usage-unique-des-2021_5474274_3244.html …

T'is the season to giveback. Keep in mind that 20% of the proceeds from our Tag Some Fin Tee Shirts and The Way Life Should Be Reusable Totes, go towards @sulikowskilab 🦈
Because of those purchases and the sales from our lobster trap tags, we will be able to make a small donation this month in the amount of $500 to support shark research — so THANK YOU! Our goal is to raise $2000 for one satellite tag so we can share updates from the shark that was fit with it. 🤞🏼

ɪsɴᴛ ʟɪғᴇ ʙᴇᴀᴜᴛɪғᴜʟ?
This is an edit for my science project and I was kind of skeptical to the thought of posting it for a few reasons:
1. I suck at editing videos and this is really basic; not my style.
2. For the fear of getting hate.
But then I realized that it’s the thought that counts and the meaning behind this edit. Yes it’s for a good grade, but I also put my feelings into it. It deeply concerns me about how ignorant and prideful us humans can be, all we tend to do is think about ourselves in the “present”. But what about our future? We have 12 years or less to change the huge mess that we have made on this earth and fix our ONLY home. I don’t mean to offend some of your guy’s big ego or anything but if you’re someone who doesn’t believe in climate change then you’re very foolish. There is evidence all around us and it is very clear that the earth is in fact warming. Im not going to preach about this topic and my feelings about it, but please think about the future. I don’t know about you, but it would really break my heart to see my kids or my grandkids not know what a polar bear looks like, to not know what fresh water tastes like, for them to have to pay the price for OUR mistakes, and to have them know that WE had the power to turn everything back but we didn’t because that would mean we would’ve had to take colder showers. That would mean we would’ve had to drive less or use public transportation, or to get actual exercise and WALK. That would mean to eat less meat, processed foods. To use our electronics less, and to do things for other people and not something for your own benefit.
If you didn’t know, this generation is the future. In a few years, if you aren’t already, we will all be adults and will be running our countries that we live in, and having our own families. Right now we think that we have “all the time in the world” but that is completely false. We need to act now. ————————————————————
Life and death go hand in hand in nature. However sometimes human factors can greatly upset the balance and cause unnecessary loss 💔
Today at a Grey Seal pupping beach in Norfolk, UK, ignorant tourists ignored warnings from @friendsofhorseyseals wardens to keep back from nursing seals, and as a result one pup was separated from its mother and was subsequently abandoned, while a second was physically chased into the sea by some undisciplined children. Both pups died 😪🖤
We love to visit Grey Seals during the pupping season, and think it is fantastic that young families and individuals alike get to see one of Britain's most unique and beautiful spectacles. HOWEVER.. there is NO excuse to go to a place with such sensitive wildlife and behave irresponsibly and disrespectfully 🚷
Where there are wardens present and asking you to modify your behaviour, they are doing so for the welfare of the animals and you. Please remember it is also illegal to disturb breeding seals. In addition, getting between a mother and her pup is complete stupidity as a seal cow could seriously harm you. The bond between a mother and baby of any animal is stronger than you can ever imagine 👩🏻👶🏼
Next, white-coated seal pups are not designed to swim. Imagine jumping in the North Sea in December with your best furry coat on! You'd soon freeze to death/ drown.. which is exactly what happened to today's pup 🌊
And finally, seals do not want to be in your selfie. No photo is worth the death of a living creature. Be mindful of this and keep well back, or invest in a zoom lens instead 📷🚫
Please please please share these bits of information with anyone that might be planning a trip to a seal breeding site this winter and may not be educated on the topic. We all need to take action to protect our wonderful wildlife, and avoid more incidents like this 🙏🏻

Not one, but TWO Animal Right’s Groups at Santa Monica 3rd Street Promenade last night 12/14! It does my heart good to see new people that I don’t know taking up the cause and fighting for the rights of the voiceless. We will won’t stop Until every cage is empty! Go vegan and stay VEGAN STRONG!
I think this needs to be the year that everyone who hasn’t got one, gets a reusable water bottle. There shouldn’t be a cup holder, desktop, handbag or man-bag in 2020 that isn’t graced by one. Day 15, of our increasingly late Christmas Advent Calendar posts, might help you choose.
We’re starting with a brand I love - Joseph Joseph - who’s Dot Active water bottle is surprisingly affordable and features LED dots in the lid so you can set hydration targets. The Global WAKEcup bamboo bottle looks amazing, scored highly with The Independent and has an integrated strainer for adding fruit and the plastic Eva Solo My Flavour bottle has a skewer for a visible fruit medley (if infusing is your thing) . The classy Black & Blum glass bottle features a charcoal filter made from tree branches which softens water and adds minerals.
If you love sparkles in your water, the rose gold vacuum bottle from trusted household brand, Thermos, is designed to keep your drink fizzy. And, a slight curve ball here, why not also invest in a Soda Stream - that 1980’s gadget that’s making a sensational comeback as a carbonated drinks maker for the plastic-free generation.
Personally, I like the taste of water from stainless steel bottle. Our friends at Daylesford Farm team up with 24 Bottles for theirs and their stylish Clima bottle looks great. I have an orange one which I treasured until someone dropped it and dented the body and lid. It’s fine, it’s just a thing; I still use it but have barely spoken the culprit since. The Jerry bottle looks great with its clean military design and then, finally, there’s the vast Chilly’s bottle range. My daughter has one of these in matt white, and she loves it.

a new favourite discovery - hydrating shampoo bar by @bar.none.co 🌟
vegan, cruelty free, all the essentials!!! it makes my hair feel absolutely AMAZING and smells like a dream. it's also HUGE and will no doubt last me forever! the packaging is cute as heck but also minimal and zero waste, and best thing; this is available at Woolworths???? i love seeing chain supermarkets get started on stocking zero waste items!!!! so much love for this 🌿
Your Christmas shopping could harm or help the planet. Which will it be? #savetheplanet#shopresponsibly#dontfuelthefire #rethinkchristmaspresentshttp://theconversation.com/your-christmas-shopping-could-harm-or-help-the-planet-which-will-it-be-123340 …
Hands up if you have made or have thought about making dehydrated orange slices for Christmas decorations this year? 🙋
I actually wasn't planning on making any, but when there was an abundance of oranges in the discount basket at the supermarket I couldn't resist. You can dehydrate them in the oven on a low temperature for a couple of hours, but you could also leave them on a radiator for a few days to dry out to save on the energy usage.
Have you given making them a go? ❤️
One of our best selling items is back & fully stocked!!! Each filter is made of 100% unbleached cotton. These are perfect for anyone at any point in their zero waste journey and can be used many times for many years. Cotton coffee filters provide a reusable alternative to paper filters that can only be used once before they are tossed. Cotton absorbs some of the oils released during the brewing process, but allows the acids to pass through; resulting in a rich, tasty brew. I drink a LOT of coffee, so I know it’s important to eliminate as much waste as possible, anywhere you can. Not using disposable paper filters is a great way to enjoy your coffee guilt free!
