🦸♀️Not all heroes wear capes, some wear scrubs and Superman T-shirts....
🌟And some drive buses, deliver mail, stock and distribute groceries, dispense essential medicines, maintain our electricity and water supplies, police our streets...(the list goes on, plenty more I could mention).....
🏠 And some just stay at home.
🌟As a doctor working in a rehabilitation unit, I don’t feel like a hero. I feel like there’s more I could be doing - I should be rolling up my sleeves in ICU and managing critical patients on ventilators....but I can’t. I’m not trained in critical care medicine and I have a duty of care to look after the patients who remain in my rehab unit. My role is to do what I can to protect them as a vulnerable population and to keep our unit running so that we can accept patients from acute hospitals and free up beds for the storm that is to come.
🌟The people on the frontline are doing an amazing job, but we all have a role to play. Even if that means just staying at home and abiding by the guidelines, your role is just as important. We’re all doing the best we can.
🌟Stay safe guys. Stronger together but apart 💪.
With mortality rates much higher in the elderly population, we need to be careful, for them.- Italian doctors note high COVID-19 death rate, urge actionhttp://www.cidrap.umn.edu/news-perspective/2020/03/italian-doctors-note-high-covid-19-death-rate-urge-action …
Half marathoners we didn’t forget you! This route is perfect for joggers and beginner endurance athletes to test themselves and enjoy the beautiful spring day! Start at Formula Running Center and make your way 13.09 miles returning to FRC. Remember to please practice social distancing and give other runners along your route space and enjoy your run!
I know there’s a lot more going on in the world right now and the marathon seems somewhat insignificant to the overall bigger picture. However, Friday’s news that the @londonmarathon has been postponed came as a huge blow to me and thousands of other runners although I agree 100% with the decision 🦠 🏃🏼♀️ .
The last 9 weeks have looked like this: hours and hours of training has been completed, around 200 miles have been run (the large majority in heavy rain, heavy winds, heavy mud (soz to my new trainers) and through the storms - thanks Dennis, Ciara and Jorge et al💨 ☔️ ), I’ve forced myself to hideous track sessions which make me feel physically sick, there have been numerous 5am starts to go strength training at the gym (in a bid to avoid injury), baking until 1am on work nights to raise money for PCUK, tears of happiness, tears of sadness, tears from feeling totally overwhelmed, imposter syndrome before EVERY long run thinking that I can’t do it, social events missed, several packets of M&S biscuits consumed (and pretty much any other chocolate I could get my hands on), injuries and niggles - knee pain, shin splints and a physio sticking massive needles in me - the list goes on! .
Anyway....however gutting the news is, none of this will be wasted. All of us runners now have time to get rid of my niggles, maintain a good level of fitness and learn what can be done better in the next block of training which starts in June! More time to come back fitter, stronger and faster ready for October, hopefully much better weather to train in, and more time to annoy everyone talking about it 😂! 💪🏼
Most importantly there is more time to raise money for @pancreaticcanuk - a charity that I have chosen to run for in memory of my Grandpa 💜 Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who has kindly sponsored me so far 🤍💜🤍 .
I’m sure some of you, like me are going stir crazy with the current situation. If you need some help keeping on top of your goals & have access to Facebook, @cigarcitycrossfit has something for ya!

Today I did my own workout you’re also welcome to try 💪🏽 1 Mile run, then complete this 3Xs: 20 lunges-20 step ups- 20second hollow hold-20 banded hip flexor marches-10 plank updowns-finish with another mile run 😅😅 Sorry in advance I wanted to suffer today 🙋🏻♀️

Ahhhh Las jacaradas 😍.

Tomorrow marks what would have been DC’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon. In celebration of Spring and to continue to challenge you, we’ve put together a marathon of our own - 26.21 miles of distancing* if you will. We challenge you to try out any part of the route at your own pace and remember, we’re right here cheering for you every step of the way.
