That was the first piece of documentary photography advice I heard. But most of my early encounters were painful and awkward. I’d see a photo I really wanted to take, but instead of going in, I’d hesitate, telling myself that I was invading peoples privacy, or being insensitive and nosy. This didn’t help. If I was feeling a little off, that vibe would permeate the space. I had the most success when I approached encounters with a positive, open frame of mind. It didn’t always work, but when it did, I was able to get close, and almost always got a more interesting photo because of it.
In 2012, I spent two weeks aboard India’s “Sleeper Class” railcars, crossing the subcontinent several times. I was interested in documentary photography, and I designed this project as a way to develop new skills, meet new people, and get outside my comfort zone.
At the end of the project, I returned to work as a designer. 8 years later, I’m revisiting these images to see what learnings (if any) I can take into my creative practice today.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Solo por jugar y como este año no tuve tiempo de unirme al #inktober2019, coloreé el dibujo original de Brian Bolland para la novela gráfica The Killing Joke (1988) pero con los colores del Arthur Fleck en el Joker (2019)
