A group of us went with signs to the Hyde Park Street Fair in Boise today. 🗣 Our goal was to spark curiosity and debate. We were ready with information to hand out. 💪🏻 We got plenty of “Here comes polio!” and “Enjoy your dead babies!” comments here and there from people passing by, which I expected. 🙄 But I *wasn’t* prepared for the demented mob of teenage boys that harassed us with vile language until we had security from the event step in and ask them to disperse. 👎🏻 I won’t even share what they said and did. It was beyond appalling. ✋🏻These teenage boys verbally attacked us MOTHERS peacefully organizing to try to inform and educate. 🚫 Listen, whatever you are doing, if you aren’t speaking out, and getting involved, it’s time. ⏰ It’s PAST time, if you haven’t already joined this movement in a real way. Our freedoms are being ripped away from us and our children. The amount of propaganda and indoctrination that the public is being fed through school and the media, MUST BE OPPOSED, with TRUTH. We need to be sharing the TRUTH as much as possible. And we NEED YOU. Everyone. The sooner we all step up, the sooner we will win this. WE ARE ALREADY DISCUSSING WHERE WE WILL DO THIS AGAIN.👊🏻 #boise#idaho#demonstration#speakup#speakout#activism#personalfreedom#mybodymychoice#dontgiveup#pushback#bebrave#wakeup#openyoureyes#see#research#thankful#friends#tribe#together#fight #totheend.

@nature_nj I thought I’d post a week of spring #warbler outtakes that didn’t make the original posting line-up. I managed to walk away from this spring with a lot more content then I was expecting. As these Neotropical Migrants are making their journey south, in drabber colorations, I think about their life’s coming up, going to the harsh rainforest environment, weaving themselves into the food structure that’s been ongoing after their departure five months ago.
German automaker Volkswagen (VW) revealed a technology roadmap that earmarked $9 billion to software investments over the next three to five years.
VW currently only develops 10% of its technology in-house. To facilitate this transition, the company will grow its technology workforce to as many as 10,000 developers.
Tech companies will still likely collaborate with VW, but the services would be add-ons to vw.os rather than built directly into the infotainment system, introducing friction in the user experience.

When you look up during your #dive and this is the view 🔨🦈. Only in handful of places you can still encounter large schools of hammerhead #sharks, and the #galapagos is definitely one of the best. It is estimated we have fished over 90% of sharks and large fishes from the world’s oceans, placing some shark species like the scalloped hammerhead on the brink of extinction if we continue with business as usual. Only in heavily protected marine reserves, we can still enjoy healthy #shark populations, but less than 5% of the world’s oceans are protected from fishing. We need many more marine reserves so this #sharky view can occur in many more places! 🦈🦈🦈🦈

Can anyone even find the naturally ripened bananas anymore?
Just another example to show how our food is being played with. Keep in mind, fruit is supposed to be eaten right after it is picked. Most fruit we eat is picked days or weeks before it is fully ripened and then transported to grocery stores. This severely affects the nutrition of fruits and vegetables.
Chemicals used for artificially ripening bananas:
Calcium carbide, ethephon one and ethylene gas.
When Calcium Carbide comes in contact with moisture present in fruits, it releases acetylene gas. This gas is similar to ethylene gas produced by naturally ripening fruits. It triggers fast ripening of bananas. Ripening using this process is not usually harmful. However, it is the traces of toxic arsenic and phosphorous left behind on fruits by this chemical that is harmful to human health. The symptoms of arsenic or phosphorous poisoning include vomiting, diarrhea, burning sensation of chest and abdomen, weakness, irritation skin, ulcers on the skin, sore throat, cough and shortness of breath.

Scientists collected samples from bottlenose #dolphins living in the Indian River Lagoon in Florida for 12 years. Here's what they found ⬇️ Nearly 90% of the 733 samples taken from 171 dolphins contained a pathogen resistant to at least one antibiotic 😱 This mirrors a trend seen in humans.
The Indian River Lagoon is subject to human-related pollution that causes environmental issues for the dolphin’s habitat.
The antibiotic that the pathogens were most commonly resistant to is one used to treat human illnesses like chest infections and sexually transmitted diseases like syphilis. Resistant bacteria enter the lagoon from land via sewage systems where they creating resistant pathogens that dolphins are then exposed to.
Whales and dolphins are at risk from human activities at sea. They need your help. Save them by getting involved today.

Meet a Member Monday!
It’s time again to meet another amazing RECOVER team member! Meet Dr. Alexis Khursigara! Alexia is a Ph.D. student in the RECOVER consortium based at the University of Texas Marine Science Institute in co-PI Dr. Andrew Esbaugh’s lab.
Why did you become a scientist?
I've always loved science. One of my favorite activities as a kid was going to the aquarium with my mom and wandering around for hours looking at all the marine life. I was also really lucky that my stepmom and dad were both doing their Ph.D.’s when I was younger, so they would bring me into the lab with them. I would get to help take care of the animals, learned about cells, and was very comfortable being in a lab setting.
What is the best advice that you have been given along your career path?
”Follow your interests, love what you do, and make sure you have a good support system around you”
It didn't really come from one person but a few different people. This is something I've always tried to follow, and its work out well for me so far
What can you not live without?
Cheese, bread, caffeine, and a good book. Is that too many things? Oh well, these are things I can't live without. I have cheese, bread, and caffeine at least once a day if not more. There's something so great about just sitting around d and diving into another world that a good book can take you to

Here you can find what and who inspires me for my new beginning: when Cooper says “Heading out there is what I feel like I was born to do” I feel the idea of adventure that always give to mankind hearth and courage.
La mia prima fonte di ispirazione per questo nuovo inizio arriva dalle parole di Cooper: quando parla di andare nello spazio, quando pensa alla sua avventura, è lo specchio di quelle emozioni che hanno sempre spinto l’uomo all’avventura.

Our job is really stressing, due to the difficulty to find a moment to take a break (emails and deadlines are always present in our minds). How can we find a way to relax in office? One way is to take care of a plant. According to a study, active interaction with indoor #plants (like touching and smelling) can reduce physiological and psychological stress. Our #coffeeplant helps us to keep a handle on #dailystress and anxiety.

The Blue Ribbon Eel swimming with grace.
Commonly known as the ribbon eel, or blue ribbon eel, these colorful animals are actually a species of moray eel. Depending on the stage of the ribbon eel’s life it may appear black, blue and or yellow. They grow to one meter / 3.3 feet in length and can live up to 20 years in the wild. Sadly, ribbon eels are sometimes captured for aquariums and rarely survive longer than one month in captivity.
All ribbon eels start off as male and are black with a yellow dorsal fin. As they mature, the male eels turn mostly bright blue with yellow accents around the mouth and on the dorsal fin. The changes don’t stop there. After the male’s body reaches a certain length, it begins to turn yellow and will develop female parts until it is able to lay eggs. .

🇬🇧 HELLO FRIENDS!
We are happy to introduce you Noelia Segovia, the president of the Creando Conciencia cooperative!
The cooperative has been created after the 2001 economic crisis, which heavily affected Argentina, in order to answer to the issue of waste management as well as the one of the the so called “cartoneros”: people living in very extreme poverty conditions, looking for recyclable material among the waste in the streets.
Natalia told us a bit of the Creando Conciencia story and the added value they created: a true innovative model creating jobs and social inclusion, but also contributing to the creation of an ecological consciousness in Argentina! “In 2008 we formally organized ourselves as a work cooperative. We started with 6 members, I am one of the founding members and each one carried their grain of sand.
We were adding our skills and we can get our first contract to offer the collection and recycling service within one of the most important cities in Argentina, in the northern part of the province of Buenos Aires.
An urban collector lives most of his time in the street gathering the urban wastes and did not know how much money he will be able to gain.
We had formalized the work of an urban waste pickers!” In the last picture you can see the moment when we gave to Natalia the present from the COPPALJ coop: Babaçu oil made soap and a t-shirt! 👇🇪🇸
