What are your sustainable resolutions for 2020? ↓⠀
Mine are: ⠀
- Reduced more household waste⠀
- Do whatever I can to push for governments to take decisive action to reduce carbon.⠀
Not long ago I could have gotten away with saying ‘the last decade to save the planet’ but that’s no longer the case...⠀
BBC-July/2019: “Do you remember the good old days when we had '12 years to save the planet'? Now it seems, there's a growing consensus that the next 18 months will be critical in dealing with the global heating crisis, among other environmental challenges.⠀
Last year, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reported that to keep the rise in global temperatures below 1.5C this century , emissions of carbon dioxide would have to be cut by 45% by 2030.⠀
But today, observers recognize that the decisive, political steps to enable the cuts in carbon to take place will have to happen before the end of next year. ⠀
The idea that 2020 is a firm deadline was eloquently addressed by one of the world's top climate scientists, speaking back in 2017.⠀
‘The climate math is brutally clear: While the world can't be healed within the next few years, it may be fatally wounded by negligence until 2020,’ said Hans Joachim Schellnhuber, founder and now director emeritus of the Potsdam Climate Institute.⠀
One of the understated headlines in last year's IPCC report was that global emissions of carbon dioxide must peak by 2020 to keep the planet below 1.5C.⠀
Current plans are nowhere near strong enough to keep temperatures below the so-called safe limit. Right now, we are heading towards 3C of heating by 2100 not 1.5.⠀
As countries usually scope out their plans over five and 10 year timeframes, if the 45% carbon cut target by 2030 is to be met then the plans really need to be on the table by the end of 2020.”⠀
If you go to the link in my bio and click this image it will take you to the global petition for a Green New Deal asking governments to base their plans on science. Let's get it to 750k signatures!⠀
As for individual impact, tell me about your sustainable plans for 2020 ↓
Oh #mands@marksandspencer this is a great step!

We need to reduce our plastic use...this is terrible #reduceplasticwaste https://lnkd.in/dWc283c
We’re gearing up for the arrive of baby no 2 round here and I’ve been reflecting on some of the swaps we made with no 1. .
Reusable cloths instead of endless packets of wet wipes have been a game changer for us. Admittedly I was hesitant to use them for anything other than face and hands to start with but even then I noticed a dramatic reduction in the number of wipes we used. Now I use them for everything and I particularly like the ‘fresh’ and ‘mucky’ bags for when we’re out and about. .
These are from Cheeky Wipes and I bought a starter set and some extra cloths. I probably didn’t need the extra cloths but it is quite handy having some upstairs on the changing table and downstairs in the kitchen. .
This isn’t a particularly cheap swap as getting set up cost a fair bit but it’s definitely paid off over time. .
With many leading brands utilising so much plastic, synthetic fragrance and chemicals in their products... it was time to make the switch to a company that holds strong ethical values @totmorganic

My sandwich wrap and snack bag range is almost ready for release. 😊
These wraps are prefect for reducing unwanted plastic waste, and can be used many times over and over again. They are machine washable to 40oC and can also be wiped clean and left to dry.
They are made from a water resistant fabric on one side and laminated to a printed fabric on the other, this fabric is similar to washable nappies and the same as my waterproof wet bags. I’ve also had this fabric tested to make sure that no nasties from the fabric process leak out into you food, and it passed 😁. These will be available as a sandwich wrap and as a snack bag with either a zip or velcro to close.
There are many uses for the bags, we’re tried sandwiches, fruit, pasties, sausage rolls (including vegetarian and vegan), tortilla wraps, drinks bottles (in case they leak), baby’s bottles and sippy cups, medicine, we’ve also found them useful for keeping shampoo and toiletries in when going swimming or on holiday.
We also make larger wet bags which are perfect for wet swimming kits, change of clothes and washable nappies anything really that’s damp and needs to be kept away from everything else.
So if you are interested and want to find out more please comment on this post and I’ll open a pre order next week to take orders, there will also be a little discount on any orders placed. 😍
Giving you some stats on material decomposition✨ Although, I missed out that a plastic bag can take up to 10,000 years to decompose😭 #zocogirl

We got 60 finished ecobricks from everyone who came to our workshop yesterday!
With these, our student, Lucas Colett, will be able to complete a composter for the Center.
It was great seeing people inspired to continue the creation of ecobricks on their own and that so many were going to pass on the idea to other organizations and friends.
The perfect partner for your appetizer. #bamboopicks#foodpicks#cocktailpicks#appetizers#olivesandfeta#biodegradable#naturalproducts#ecofriendlyproducts#reduceplasticwaste#saynotosingleuseplastics https://ift.tt/2ReplrL pic.twitter.com/zry9IBmSSy

My veggies are growing so well 😁 Also look at this cool swing we found at the op shop yesterday.
Don’t know if it’s a good thing though because now Spencer yells at me to push him in it every time he goes outside 😂 #opshopfinds#buynothingnew#secondhandfinds

I took the opportunity on this fine, frosty day to do some flyering round the local area. I can’t ‘just go for a walk’ these days 😂. It’s so true that you never switch off when you’re running your own business.
The flyer-walk was just the tonic as I haven’t been feeling my tip top best lately. I chatted to a few people who very interested in what we do ☺️.
I also managed a few hours off later in the day which included nails, yoga and a read of the paper. Happy times 😃 ☕️.
What have you lot been up to under these glorious blue skies?
I'm just a vegan, hypoallergenic, paraben and SLS free foaming hand wash standing in front of a BECO. buddy asking him to hug her.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You're giving me a brand new home where I can clean hands, spread my super scent and help you to save water, here's a big hug to say thank you!

Over a 12 month period we have sent out just over 200,000 litres of milk in our churns. Not only do our milk churns look the part, they are also saving us from sending out an extortionate amount of plastic bottles!
This is something we’ve worked incredibly hard on and have worked very closely with our customers to ensure it works well for them too. We are proud of how things are going and are very determined to continue to work on reducing our plastic usage.

Been home for less than a day and I already miss this breakfast spot by the water 😭 at @okerefallsstore not only do they provide AMAZING food (like this fluffy soft pretzel and loaded crepe) but they also care about their environment. They don't use plastic utensils or straws, they're working to reduce their single use plastic usage by 45% in the next 6 months, and they sell tiffin lunch boxes, made right there in NZ!
I know a lot of places are starting to offer paper straws in addition to plastic or as a replacement, but what else is being done? I want to know how small businesses near me are working to reduce their single use plastic usage in other ways too. If you know a business or you are a business, comment below!
And also please read the next 2 pictures carefully, please understand the severity of the crisis going on around us. If a smaller country is pumping out this much plastic, how much are we?
@Refill is now up & running in #worksop via @BassetlawICP! Meet Eric. A clever little ceramic elephant where you can leave notes and messages without using paper. Great for quick messages. Less waste and good gift idea. Although you need to use a dry wipe pen but i thought it was cute and different. Not saying this will replace a post it note but a good combo to save the tress. Also any stationary or pens can all be taken up rymans stationary to be recycled @forbzi. #lesswaste#reducewaste#savetheearth#savethetrees#message#eric#elephant#hathi#erictheelephant#ceramicnotebook#trees#goinggreen#reduceplasticwaste#fun#cute#treeplanting#birmingham#bcu#ecowarriors

While we were gone from the farm for two weeks, the plastic on our unfinished mud room blew off. I’ve been on an obsessive awareness of plastics in our world. So, rather than replace the plastic sheet and in a year need to do it again, we found some leftover beetle killed pine boards from another project and in a few hours, this is what we were able to create. I love our new wall and even though it is supposed to be temporary, it will probably be around for a long time. #farmprojects#beetlekilledpine#noplastic#reduceplasticwaste#husbandwifeproject
SELF-CARE SWITCH - toothpaste tablets
• plastic free packaging
• triclosan and SLS free
• great taste
• teeth feel just as clean as traditional toothpaste
• picky husband approved
I knew switching to tablets would eliminate the plastic waste from the multiple tubes of toothpaste we go through. I wanted to make the switch, but most of the tablets out there are flouride free. Then I found @denttabs on multiple pages after searching "best toothpaste tablets". Luckily, you can buy them through Amazon. The downside is that it might take a couple of weeks to get to you. There aren't any US based companies that make toothpaste tablets with flouride. Order them when you're close to finishing a tube of toothpaste, so that they'll get to you right when you need them.
How to use - I bite mine in half, and then chew one half on each side of my mouth. Chew it up just enough to break it into small pieces. Wet your toothbrush, and start brushing over the pieces. It will produce a slight foam, but nothing like traditional toothpaste. The foam you're used to is the SLS 🤢 added to toothpaste that doesn't actually serve a purpose other than to make it foamy. Most of us think more foam = better clean. Not true. Anyways, continue brushing like normal and you'll be good to go!
