" Ice on the rope " - Students on the gallows
We stand with a rope around our neck on melting blocks of ice.
With this metaphor, we want to illustrate the devastating consequences of the polar ice caps melting far too quickly, because the number of climate deaths should not be underestimated. Around 300,000 people die every year worldwide as a result of global warming. The number tends to rise as sea levels rise. Heat waves and droughts are drying up the country, and forest fires are destroying livelihoods. Even in Germany, water is threatening to become scarce. And there are many other reasons to draw attention to climate injustice.

I joined XR because I feel that it’s a way for me to make a real difference to the future of the planet. I’ve made personal changes to try to minimise the negative impacts of my own life on earth, but without global changes led by governments (the UK seems to be going backwards in green policy) these are completely futile.
As a biology student I have dreamt of one day seeing a rainforest with my own eyes or documenting species previously unknown to science, but these possibilities are fast becoming more remote. It makes me incredibly sad to learn about the impact our species is having on all the other amazing life on this planet. XR is a powerful movement and a way for me to actively protect what I love.
This portrait is part of our #facesofthefutureinaction series, we are always looking for more young voices to provide a platform for so please send in any faces of the future you have!

The commonwealth was created by invading, raping and stealing from all of the cultures of all the world and by imposing a culture, spirit and religion that corrupted mankind; which then evolved into a system of economic dominance supported by an inculturation of the fake, plastic and void, a culture of consumerism and spiritual darkness.
Your actions have been so evil that not even you will be able to live on this planet. Restoring the balance means giving back what you have stolen, dismantling all the systems of dominance, including the vatican, the financial system, the world bank, all of the corporations that continue raping and polluting the planet and finishing with the industrial-military complex and paradigm. The future is in your hands not because you're heroes, but because you have stolen that power from us; because historically the brutes and savages, which is you, have dominated by means of deceit over the spiritual and rational, which is the rest of the cultures in the world, now almost extinct. .
It’s a warm year in the Arctic too! Most of the ice loss in Greenland is not from icebergs chunking off into the sea, but glaciers withering away from the surface, which sends meltwater down cracks and comes out below. These scientists funded by the NSF are measuring the rate and nature of that flow with a non-toxic red dye that can be traced at the other end. The summer melt rate is so fast that we had to move our tents every week, as they would insulate the surface and leave us on a pedestal of unmelted ice, at risk of getting blown off in the wind. TELL THE TRUTH "Oil giants Shell and BP are planning for global temperatures to rise as much as 5°C by the middle of the century. The level is more than double the upper limit committed to by most countries in the world under the Paris Climate Agreement, which both companies publicly support. The discrepancy demonstrates that the companies are keeping shareholders in the dark about the risks posed to their businesses by climate change.. Many climate scientists say that a temperature rise of 5°C would be catastrophic for the planet."

Hello my lovelies, on Wednesday last week I was unjustly arrested at a non-violent environmental protest in Brisbane CBD. I assisted with temporarily blocking a road to bring awareness to the public about the global climate crisis we are currently in. I was 1 of 9 people arrested on this particular day.
After years of rallying, signing petitions and emailing our local leaders, I see there is no real action being taken by the Australian government to address the climate emergency. Peaceful civil disobedience has been proven to be successful in the past and so I see no other alternative to get our message heard.
The action lasted about 15 minutes and we left the area without receiving a 'move on notice' from the police. When myself and another lovely lady were walking away we were followed by 2 police officers on bicycles and we were both eventually arrested. As this was our first offence, we believe it is a tactic the police are using to try and scare people from standing up against unjust laws.
Myself and of us were held at the Watchhouse for 4 hours and then released with Infringement notices of $400 each, charged with “Public Nuisance and Disorderly Behaviour”. Even though I do not believe this was a fair charge, I unfortunately do not have the time or resources to dispute the charges in court.
Not everyone has the ability to put themselves in the position of sacrificing their liberties for the protection of our planet and all its beings. I would really appreciate any contribution to my crowd fund so that I can continue to fight for our future. (Link I’m in my bio) 💙
