Day In My Life: Internship Edition 🧠
I’ve written this post before about what my days look like; however, routines change and I felt like sharing an updated version! This is going to be based on my days the past couple of weeks and what I worked on today! I’m currently an intern at a neuroscience research lab and I’m completing this internship as a part of my masters degree! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 9 AM: I start my day by trying to get to the lab on time, so that I can catch up with incoming e-mails, as well as journal while drinking my morning coffee! This is also the time when I plan out the tasks of the day that I would like to accomplish and catch up with fellow interns, which are all fellow neuroscience masters students! They’ve been making my experience at this internship really fun!
10-12 PM: is focused work time. Today I had to finish a Fundamentals of Bayesian analysis in R course via DataCamp, as well as write and edit a blog post and read two research articles for my thesis about social decision making. 12-1 PM: lab lunch time when we all take a break to socialise ☕️ 1- 5 PM: focused work time. I finished reading the two articles that I started in the morning, had a meeting with my supervisor about my thesis and data analysis that I still need to complete, as we looked at the model comparisons that I’ve been working on for the past few weeks (the GLM’s I was talking about for our fMRI data). I also had a team meeting about our upcoming EEG study and participant recruitment, we had to plan our course of action. Additionally, I found some time to procrastinate by typing out this caption and editing a photo for Instagram! #priorities
I usually leave the lab after 5 pm and take the evenings off! It’s been tremendously helpful with finding good work and life balance, which is important for me because I struggle with perfectionism and could end up working days on end! Having evenings for myself or socialising helps with productivity, so it is nice to have dedicated work and relaxation time during my days.👌🏻 It helps me with stress and motivation, as well as general productivity and focus!✨ Comment below what your day looked like!💕
Send this to someone who needs motivation right now.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Waiting for motivation is nothing. Motivation doesn't come to you. You have to go and get it yourself.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Get out of your head and stop doing things for yourself only. When you include a more significant "why" in your life, things will be so much more exciting and worth pursuing.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Reading biographies is a fantastic way to daydream about your future in more a concrete and productive way. You will realize that you can achieve anything you want as long as you are willing to work for it.

When do you summer holidays start?
Mine start around the end of June! Hopefully if things go as planned, after the holidays I'll be a master's student! I should probably enjoy my remaining time as an undergrad right? I sure wont miss all the exams and numerous sleepless nights though. But they definitely toughened me as a person 😂 I mean, if one can manage to pass an exam with 4 hours worth of study THE NIGHT BEFORE, one can get through anything in life! 😂 (yep I actually did that, procrastination at its best)

Happy Monday, friends! I’m working from home today, which is always a nice way to start the week. I plan to do a bit of book reviewing (of the Ruth Ware book i finished last week!) and planning out a few blog posts for you for the month as well, so if you have anything you’d like to see, comment it below!
I’m also switching over to a new book today, which I very rarely do when in the middle of another one. I find that if I’m reading two books at once, I inevitably never return to the first one. 👀📖 But I’m determined to finish both this time, so we will see how I do! Will keep you updated. 😉
💭 Anything you’d like to see on the blog? Specific book lists? More weeks in my life? Publishing Q&A? Home stuff? Something totally different?💭 let me know here! 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼
Regaining workflow 💻✨ // 011
I’ve not written a re-cap post of my week for quite some time now, so I am happy to report that I managed to bounce back into productivity post moving the past couple of weeks! I’ve been in work grind mode at my internship and have a couple exciting updates to share with you all!👏🏻
1. I finished running 144 GLM analyses on the fMRI neural data that was collected for the research project that I am working on! It’s a big achievement because we can now move on with data analysis (we were doing model comparisons). This will allow me to start writing my thesis, which I should be able to complete in two months!
2. I signed up for a summer school! Although it’s mandatory to attend at least one for my masters degree, I am looking forward to attending lectures and workshops, as well as work on a group project for two weeks in June! The topic is “The Emergent Mind”, which focuses on complex systems theory and the brain 🧠
3. I was invited to record an open discussion based podcast episode for @katherine.bassil’s “Neuroethics Police” podcast! We talked about current Neuroscience research on topics, such as consciousness, AI, brain-computer interfaces, as well as head transplants! I invite you all to give it a listen if you’re interested in learning more about Neuroscience!👌🏻
Things have been going pretty well so far and I’ve been making a lot of progress with my studies and work! I hope you all had a lovely weekend and I wish you all a productive upcoming week!💕The plan for me this week is to start writing my thesis and work on participant recruitment applications for the 2nd part of our behavioural experiment (I will share about it later at another internship update!)✨

New movement looks to reduce exposure to our phones, apps and social media
PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A new term is floating in the ether, promoting a reduction in technology in our lives. It's called "digital minimalism." The theory is that less technology leads to more happiness, and reducing the number of apps on our phones will help.
Dustin Kidd is an associate professor of sociology at Temple University.
He says there are two sides to this. One is that apps on phones can be helpful and beneficial.
But on the other hand, he says, "Social media, like popular culture more broadly, always promises something that it can't deliver like fulfillment and happiness. We don't find that through technology or media. We find that through our interpersonal connections, through the ways that we connect with our families and our communities." Ilia Delio, the Josephine C. Connelly endowed chair in theology at Villanova University, has a different take. "Technology actually emerged to try to help us transcend the boundaries that divide us,” she said. “Because that's what technology does. It unites us actually." She says technology is like nature, always evolving, and that it should be used to find fulfillment in ourselves and not just cyber-connection with others... By Kim Glovas
