Makin' Magick 1 - Your Own Spells!
One thing that crops up so much is people asking me if I know a spell for X. I just wanted to explore that a little and offer my opinion on this. Spellwork at it's core (at least for me) is about intention and connection. I remember really early on in my craft I discovered that your spell starts long before you actually do the spell itself. It starts the moment you focus your intention on that goal. You're already sending energy. I've always resonated with that concept. You can write and create your own spells. Can't find the spell you want in a book? Make one! It's more personal that way too!
If you want you can take into account correspondence. Some common ones include candle colours, days of the week, moon phases, herbs and crystals and times of the day. Ultimately, if you feel the time is right then it is. If you don't think a spell will work because you didn't do it on a Wednesday with a red candle - then it won't. Correspondence has its benefits, I love working with candle colours and different plants for example. Blending an incense for the spell, choosing and incribing the candle. Again, this process helps to layer your intention for the spell. Do you need them? No. For many does it help to bring out that energy? Absolutely.
Correspondence can help, especially if it's got energetic properties such as the plants or crystals. They can lend a hand for sure. Remember that you are the main battery in the process though! You can have every tool and item in front of you but if you don't connect with that intention it won't make much difference.
Decide whether you want this to be spoken or not. It could be that it rhymes, or repeats itself. This process can work well to help take you out of the mundane space and into the right energetic space. Spells can simply be a quiet set of thoughts, or as simple as you just saying your desires without any trimmings.
I want to make this into a bit of a series and do a post on building spells up for those who want to write and create their own. How do you feel about spell work? Do you create your own? If not, what's holding you back? Perhaps we can all help out in the comments!

One of my most favourite woods of all time, and completely deserving of a prime time post, I was extremely happy to pick up a nice selection of grade AAA Bocote— which I haven’t had in stock for a long while. Just in time for the Market.
Fiery, passionate and highly spiritual. Bocote can help to substitute African Blackwood with some traits (working with cycles), blocking unwanted energy and a higher spiritual connection than most woods. It also provides its holder clarity at times that helps with inspiration. Its a very focused wood that has almost limitless potential to take energy and finely focus it into a forward motion. With its similarities to Blackwood, it shares a raw energy and fire to that of Padauk... overall very unique. Therefore, Bocote can be a powerful ally when motivation and a passionate path is needed.
