Someone asked where I get all the quotes I post. ⠀
Reading... From the Gospel and then a little devotional reading. ⠀
A little bit every morning. ⠀
I used to put little sticky tabs next to every quote that resonated with me. Then one day my youngest daughter literally took all of the sticky tabs out of my books because they looked like confetti to her and, holding them in her hand , came up to me and said “look mama... pretty! ”. ⠀
So I started writing down the quotes that speak to me and then one day I started sharing them online. It’s also a way for me to look back at the quotes so I won’t forget them. Because I always need those reminders. ⠀
The quotes I post resonate with me • which is why I share them • but I want to also say that I’m careful what I read and I try to be careful about what I post. If I ever post anything that rubs anyone the wrong way - please forgive me. I try to post the kinder gentler words but I know that like in all things • what is kinder gentler to me might not be for someone else. ⠀
In our times we have every manner of spiritual book available to us. Sometimes I’ll begin a section of a book • even the one I’m holding in this photo by Elder Ephraim • and I’ll know there are sections that are above my head or heart • like really above it. ⠀
So I skip over it. The reason is that over the years I have learned that there are certain depths of spiritual life that • in a monastery - where they truly have renounced the world • where they have an on-site spiritual advisor • for daily Confession if needed. • where they truly live an obedience • that such a depth of spiritual walk can be plumbed with guidance. ⠀
Also a Bishop in the Church said once in a bible study I attended • that there was a time when such knowledge was not just handed out to everyone to read. It was understood that some books should remain closed until (unless) a certain maturity of faith or readiness is there. He spoke of Elders who would worry when a novice read Saint Simeon the New Theologian without a blessing • they would worry whether he could be saved.⠀that sounds crazy to us, right...
Recently finished this Saint Nicholas just in time for this weekend. It will be included in the silent auction and be up for grabs.
Joyous Feast! С праздником!
Rejoice most sacred mind,
pure dwelling of the Trinity,
pillar of the Church and support of the faithful,
help of the fallen, star ever dispersing temptations and afflictions
through the radiance of thy prayers, well-pleasing to God!
Thou art a calm haven, O Bishop Nicholas,
where those who flee are saved from the threatening wave of life.
Pray that Christ may grant our souls great mercy!

Raising my children in the Faith, steeped in rich tradition and beauty has been a great blessing to me. Seeing their faith, even with so little knowledge, helps deepen my faith. On our vacation, E was getting ready for bed and he heard his cousin crying. After asking for 'Rejoice Virgin Theotokos' to be sung for the 3rd time, I finally asked him what was wrong. He told me he was sad that his cousin had been crying. I asked if he wanted to pray for his cousin and he did. After the prayer, I asked if he felt better. He said "yes." And fell asleep. That simple act of prayer for someone, who was in need, and feeling peace from committing his cousin to God was such a great reminder to me that we all need faith "as a little child" (Mathew 18:3). While teaching my children the Faith, I'm learning so much about my own faith and the importance of living out what I actually believe. I can say prayer is important but unless I actually make time for prayer, my actions don't reflect how important it is. I still struggle with this but I'm blessed with my wonderful children who are helping me attain the Kingdom of Heaven. ⠀

"Today we celebrated the feast day of St. Sebastian Dabovitch with Fr. Sinsa Milutinovic at St. Sava's Serbian Orthodox Church. ⠀
St. Sebastian was one of the most important missionary saints who served in North America in the last century. A contemporary of Sts. Tikhon, Raphael, Mardarije, Alexis Toth, and our beloved Archbishop Arsney. He tirelessly crossed our continent, establishing churches, serving Serbians, Russians, Romanians, Ukrainians, Greeks, Arab and Tinglet Christians with the one proclamation of Christ's saving victory. The example of St. Sebastian bears witness to the unity of the Apostles on that blessed Pentecost, manifested in our age.⠀

We’re back in New York for his final year of seminary! It’s hard to leave “home” in California but I’m happy to be back in our cozy little apartment at seminary. I’m still basking in the specialness of this season of life- feeling surrounded by God’s grace and at peace. I compare it to the feelings I had when I was baptized and Chrismated and newly illumined! Excited for what’s ahead and thankful- oh so thankful- for the life we have! Glory to God for all things! #orthodoxpriest#orthodoxchurch#seminarylife#orthodoxmom#orthodoxchurchinamerica#svots#svotslife
Isaiah 12:3-6 (Great Blessing of Waters)
3: Therefore with joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.
4: And in that day you will say: “Praise the Lord, call upon His name; Declare His deeds among the peoples, Make mention that His name is exalted.
5: Sing to the Lord, for He has done excellent things; this is known in all the earth.
6: Cry out and shout, O inhabitant of Zion, for great is the Holy One of Israel in your midst!” #orthodoxchurchinamerica

I tried to recreate this yesterday and it was a complete failure- and honestly there’s really no topping this photo, so I’m re-posting it again 😆Today we acknowledge the death of the Mary (also known as the Theotokos or the Mother of our Lord). I thought very little about her growing up, thinking she was just a biblical character in the Christmas story. Once I became a mother 3 years ago, my feelings and connection to her changed. Now that I had my own child, I began to imagine how Christ must feel towards His own mother, and how she would feel towards her son. Surely she couldn’t just be an ordinary person, like I had been taught growing up! She contained God himself in her womb, raised him and is and will forever be His mother. I’m learning also, she is my mother, and the mother to all of creation. What an example we have of humility, obedience to God, and love. .
I would love for you to share your thoughts, connection or feelings about Mary! What role does she play in your life?👇🏻 Also, blessed feast friends! .

Maybe we don't and haven't loved God, but today, we can start. 🙏❤️
“And I, a sinner, have been trying to love God for more than forty years, and cannot say that I perfectly love Him.
If we love someone we always remember him and try to please him; day and night our heart is occupied with that object.
Is that how you, gentlemen, love God? Do you often turn to Him, do you always remember Him, do you always pray to Him and fulfill His holy commandments?
‘For our good, for our happiness at least
let us make a vow that from this day, from this hour, from this minute we shall strive to love God above all else and to fulfill His holy will.'”

Lest we forget, that on this radiant feast of St. Herman, the blessed Protopresbyter
Alexander Schmemann reposed in the Lord 36 years ago. "Christ *weeps* at the grave of his friend, and in so doing his own struggle with death, his refusal to acknowledge it and to come to terms with it. Suddenly, death ceases to be a normal and natural fact, it appears as something foreign, as unnatural, as fearsome and perverted, and it is acknowledged as an enemy: 'The last enemy to be destroyed is death."
(O death where is thy sting)
May his memory be eternal.

There’s something mystical about the Saints and their connections in our lives. I have always drawn to the saints, even since I was young girl, not knowing at the time what a “saint” was. I remember reading stories of those who died for their faith and imagining what I myself would do in that scenario. There was something about their boldness, their faith, and commitment to Christ despite persecution or struggles they faced that captivated me. I could only hope that one day I could have a fraction of their boldness and confidence in faith.
Joining the Orthodox Church, I began learning more about the Saints and their role in our lives. Although I feel a connection with many saints, one in particular has made a special place in our family. St Raphael of Brooklyn, who’s feast day is tomorrow! I first learned about St Raphael a few years ago when my godson Peter Raphael was named after him. Reading his story was very encouraging. After all, he was a saint who lived in America within the last 100 years! I was fascinated by his life. He was a missionary who brought Orthodoxy to America - which I am forever grateful for! When we moved to New York, we were assigned to St Nicholas Antiochian Cathedral in Brooklyn, and I learned that this was the first church he established in his ministry. Right here, in the church where I’m standing, are some of his relics. Each week we attended services, I would greet him and ask for his prayers for my family. What an honor it is to be so close to a holy saint!
Because of his ministry, the churches he established are growing and affecting the lives of countless people today. I’m thankful for the men and women who have gone before me and have fought the good fight, finished the race and have kept the faith. May we be empowered to do the same and continue in faithfulness and boldness and love ❤️ St Raphael, pray unto God for us! #orthodoxchristian#straphaelofbrooklyn#orthodoxchurch#orthodoxchurchinamerica#orthodoxmom

This weekend has been so full of blessings- as we celebrate the Exaltation of the Cross ☦️ one of 12 major feasts in the Orthodox Church. And this week has been all about the cross, in our daily lives too. We’ve been finding crosses throughout our home and at church, decorating crosses, making the sign of the cross, and I’ve even found that often I feel overwhelmed with my own cross (motherhood) that I have had to rely more heavily on Christ to carry me through #truestory 🥴 Life is hard, and full of daily struggles. But I’m so thankful for the life-giving Cross. I’m thankful for my family— my fellow co-strugglers. With them, I’m learning to love, forgive, be forgiven and grow closer to Christ. Blessed feast of the cross!!! .
Also, these sweet matching dresses arrived in the mail from my wonderful mother-in-law and they basically are the cutest dresses of my life 🤩 Thank you, Kim 🥰
