I can’t believe I took this photo one year ago today! This Criminal Justice town hall at Parkside Senior Center with @bxprogressives was my fourth event with the campaign 💜 And hey, check out @shaniyat2020 in the back! 😎
How did this 'nut case' get in Congress?

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is In Her Position
Holy smokes - we just got endorsed by @MoveOn! https://twitter.com/moveon/status/1008767780584349700 … … …
It feels unreal that one year ago tonight the Bronx and Queens elected the youngest woman to Congress in our nation’s history 💜✨ Let this be a reminder to all of us that the concept of “electability” and voting for the “safest choice” should not be on the table or in our vocabulary this election cycle. Be bold, trust your instincts, and vote for the future you want to see.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, 27, felt compelled to run for Congress after witnessing the demise of 2016 Democratic Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders while volunteering on his campaign. Ocasio-Cortez, the first person in her family born in the U.S. to Puerto Rican parents, believes it’s time that elected officials reflect their constituents and that “working class New Yorkers finally have a voice in politics.” This is her first time running for office. Still smiling from that memorable day of meeting the wonderful Professor Cornell West. He so sweetly replied when I asked if he had a preference, and told me he liked being called "Brother West". Awesome to hear what Brother West had to say about Brother Bernie, with such inspiring passion!👊🏽👊🏽Four years ago I had heard friends praise Bernie Sanders. It was when I went to see him at a rally in Santa Barbara that I was blown away. For the first time ever, here was a presidential candidate I could trust. Bernie’s wisdom from dedicating his life in serving the working class is what this country needs now more than ever. He is the only candidate standing up to the multi-billion dollar corporations that care about nothing but profit. Bernie will fight for the majority (not the 1%) and his Green New Deal is the most solid in addressing climate change, which can no longer be denied. I support Bernie 100% and hope everyone will consider the importance of making him the next president of the United States, for the sake of this country, and for the sake of the world. 🌎💚🌏💚🌍💚
I would like to respond to some previous comments about Bernie being “socialist”: "Democratic socialism means that we must create an economy that works for all, not just the very wealthy. Democratic socialism means that we must reform a political system in America today which is not only grossly unfair but, in many respects, corrupt.” Bernie's explanation of "socialism" is, in fact, closer to what political philosophers refer to as "social democracy.” Read further at "What socialism is — according to Bernie Sanders" https://bigthink.com/politics-current-affairs/what-is-socialism-bernie-sanders
