Tip-13 is about the importance of using custom-built controls when developing apps for mobile and wearable devices.
We hope that after reading our first tips, you got already an idea that app development for mobile and wearable devices is quite different from the app development for desktop platform.
The sad reality about this, is that the existing UI/UX frameworks for mobile and wearable devices are not suited for the task to say the least.
What does it mean for you? If you think about it, it’s actually a great news, because this is the opportunity to make your app stand out from the crowd.
In our 100+ tips that we plan to share with you, you’ll see that there are so many "details" that you need to be aware of.
And the devil is in the details. Always!
To take care of these details you will need to build your own custom controls. Is it tough? Not quite.
For example, the entire #touchynotes app (in the video) is based on a set of custom-built controls utilized within custom-built framework. In a nutshell, there is no any "standard" UIKit based functionality used within the app.
Tip-13: Learn how to create and use custom-built controls for your development platform. Don’t sqeeze your bright ideas into narrow "coffins" of legacy UI frameworks. Make the difference!
Threads have been an essential part of computer science and a versatile tool for programmers for decades. Most modern operating systems support threads and Android is no exception. .
Whenever we create an activity, it runs by default in the main thread of your application. All the commands issued by the Android operation system (like onClick, onCreate, etc.) are sent to and processed by this main thread.
But, if you include all of your processing logic in the main thread, your application might not be too busy to respond to the messages sent by the Android operating system.
This might even make your application completely unresponsive, which would prompt Android to display the warning of “application not responding” (ANR) and shut down your app by force.
To prevent this problem, it’s good practice to perform all the tasks that might take a long time in a separate background thread rather than in the main thread. This would leave the main thread free to remain responsive to the user input sent by the Android operating system.
Do you use threads in your apps?

What is JWT?
JSON Web Token is an internet standard for creating data with optional signature and/or optional encryption whose payload holds JSON that asserts some number of claims.
The tokens are signed either using a private secret or a public/private key.
Identifies which algorithm is used to generate the signature
HS256 indicates that this token is signed using HMAC-SHA256.
Contains a set of claims. The JWT specification defines seven Registered Claim Names which are the standard fields commonly included in tokens.
Securely validates the token. The signature is calculated by encoding the header and payload using Base64url Encoding and concatenating the two together with a period separator. That string is then run through the cryptographic algorithm specified in the header.
In authentication, when the user successfully logs in using their credentials, a JSON Web Token will be returned and must be saved locally (typically in local or session storage, but cookies can also be used), instead of the traditional approach of creating a session in the server and returning a cookie.
Whenever the user wants to access a protected route or resource, the user agent should send the JWT, typically in the Authorization header using the Bearer schema.
The content of the header might look like the following:
Authorization: Bearer eyJhbGci......yu5CSpyHI

⚠️𝕄𝕀𝕊 𝔸ℙℙ𝕊 ℙℝ𝔼𝔽𝔼ℝ𝕀𝔻𝔸𝕊 ℙ𝔸ℝ𝔸 𝔼𝔻𝕀𝕋𝔸ℝ 𝔽𝕆𝕋𝕆𝕊👇🏼⠀

When trying to get your app developed, an offshore firm may be worth consideration. These firms may be the cheapest, and sometimes only option. However, there must be caution when pursuing this option, and extra effort must be put into establishing clear channels of communication.
I recommend going explicitly off-shore only in cases where a trusted individual with a technical background can be brought in to help both the client and off-shore firm understand exactly what is going to be built before signing the contract. Otherwise, in my experience, the odds of the App being successfully developer are like those of roulette.
Yes, sometimes you will win and feel like a genius, but often the result is a 6-12 month roller coast ride that often leaves entrepreneurs heart broken and thinking App development is ‘just not for them’. If you don’t have a trusted Ally in the App Development process I would love to chat.
I offer no-cost consults and have developed a create process for creating software prototypes quickly and affordably.

Check out our newest post on 5 planes of UX, as imagined by J. J. Garrett .
He divides user experience into 5 layers, starting with the surface layer (the one we see), and all the way down to the strategy level (the abstract one) .
The idea he presents is that the UX you’re providing starts at the very bottom, at the strategy plane .
What do you think about J. J. Garrett’s 5 planes of UX? 🤔

“The problem is that ‘there’s a major discrepancy between that [FOB] price and what the farmers are actually paid,’ explains Justin Dena, COO of iFinca, a mobile app which uses blockchain to verify coffee prices from the farmgate onwards and then share them with everyone who buys that coffee, from the exporter to the roaster, café owner, and even consumer. Farmgate, FOB, and quality bonuses are all made transparent.” Read the complete @PerfectDailyGrind article via link in bio!
