Living in a world that constantly questions and discredits our instinctual intelligence makes it all too easy to dismiss the body that houses that intelligence.
I strive to learn as much as I can about my physical (emotional, and spiritual) self and support and protect other people’s ability to do the same.

Breathwork is one of my favorite ways to “wake up” from that autopilot setting and feel a little more alive.
I’ll be recording this month’s virtual breathwork group on Sunday, October 27th and our focus will be on magic and the inner child. Make sure you’re signed up!
No prior experience with breathwork is required. Breathwork is always at a beginner level. All that’s needed is a desire to deepen your relationship with yourself and your intuition.
👉🏽 FOR $20, YOU’LL RECEIVE:
• A recording on October 27th (the new moon is on October 28th) where I’ll open with a short meditation, talk a bit about the energy at hand, and then guide you through 30-35 minutes of active breath and 10-15 minutes of rest, integration, and grounding...all with an amazing new playlist of music.
• Additional support, including journal prompts aligned with this new moon, will spark further self inquiry and help you continue connecting with yourself and your intuition throughout the month ahead.

If you didn't have secure attachments in childhood, it makes sense that these things may sound a bit foreign for now. That's ok and it also makes sense. The work is not only stepping towards this in your relationships with others but also step towards a lot of these things in terms of relationship with yourself and your inner child. ⠀
It's what you deserve to give and what you deserve to receive. One step at a time. ⠀

When you’re the one giving you the hardest time, it can help to meet that fearful inner critic with some self-awareness and compassion.

While those old behavior patterns, relationships, and environments probably helped keep you safe at one time in your life, chances are your circumstances are different now. You don’t need the same coping mechanisms. In fact, holding onto them can start to prevent you from growing in life.
If you’re feeling stuck right now, see if you can push through resistance and try something new...even if it’s small.
Practice creating a wider circle of safety and comfort.

I am terrified of ledges. As much as I like climbing mountains, when I get to the top, I become woozy thinking about the ledge. What if I jump? I get the same feeling on balconies, porches, even looking out windows. Part of it is I don't trust man-made structures. This non-trust of men and women started when I was a kid. The adults in my life were not to be trusted. I never had any role models that taught me what trust was, how to trust others and how to trust myself. "You can't be trusted," They would seethe again and again, until I believed that's who I was.
When I got depressed in my twenties, I started fantasizing about free falling from the 70th story of a tall building. This fantasy would be a regular part of my life until I was 50. I believed that after I jumped and right before death there would be a sliver of time where I felt truly free. That in that moment, I would have the ultimate bliss. It was going to be the most magical moment of my life and the only way to have it was to die. I thought about this moment so much that I eventually assumed it was inevitable. Every time I had a chance to step off a ledge there would be panic and anxiety because this very strong part of me was saying, "this is your chance." This non-trust of myself seems to be a pattern over and over in my life. I don't trust that I can fully take care of myself, that I won't drink that vodka, that I won't do those drugs, that I won't eat that cake, that I can support myself, that I'll get up on time. I don't trust that I won't cause myself more pain. In fact I spend a lot of energy compensating, trying to prove to some imaginary people that I am trustworthy.
My obsession with suicide did not just miraculously go away. I had to slowly chisel away at the underlying mental ruminations, the very destructive beliefs about myself and the enormous grief I had. Just when I thought I was healed, the fantasy would creep right back in. The thought just became a habit like anything else. Healing my suicidal thoughts has been a hard, yet very worthwhile and rewarding process.

Love takes times. It took me 5 years to learn to like SF, and when I did, it changed everything.
See, I’m a firm believer looking at anything from one angle is a poor way to see anything.
BECAUSE I came back, again...and again, despite at first, 2nd 3rd and 4th attempt not quite understanding why anyone would be so fond of this place, I learned a lot about perspective. None of which included my own. And it changed mine. Eventually.
Fast forward to 2019, I started working here, met great people, met my partner in life and best friend here, and I (almost) made it home. Here.
As I move to learn to love a 7th city to call home, I‘m never been more grateful for this dot in the bay. Indeed, love takes time. It took me half a decade. And that’s ok. #love#sanfrancisco
Evolution is an incredibly intelligent process. The ways we learn to evolve in order to survive are just as intelligent and brilliant. I am constantly in awe of the ways we all adapt to difficult situations and learn brilliant coping strategies to get through them. ⠀
That's not a flaw, that's a strength. I know it can sound like I'm just being nice or hopeful, but what I'm stating is proven by science. This is the truth of all survivors of whatever it is you've survived (and none of us make it through this life unscathed by something traumatic). Your body/mind loves you SO much it will do whatever it takes to survive. It has a whole army orchestrated to work just on your behalf. From neuroception to your autonomic nervous system to your limbic system and beyond, your mind body will do whatever it takes to keep you safe, including eating your own muscle tissue for energy when in fight/flight for a long period of time.⠀
That's remarkable. That should be celebrated. You. Are. Amazing. ⠀
The more we can befriend these parts of ourselves, the more they will work for us in the ways we need them to now that the threat is no longer present. ⠀
One step at a time, that's all you ever need to know. ⠀

Energy In Motion
Emotions are just that, energy in motion.
We can choose to attach to the emotions and let them rule us or we can sit back and watch them flow from one to the next. Experiencing them for what they are and then letting them go.
Just like this cascading waterfall, constantly changing, we too are never the same. The things we feel are constantly shifting as they move through us.
We are not our emotions.
Next time you experience an uncomfortable emotion, enjoy it for what it is. *
For this too shall change .

New blog post is up. Topic? The story behind the Phoenix Functional Life Training Experience. The reason behind my passion and sharing a little bit more about my message and my story. Link in bio. 📷 cred: @dfit_nutrition Join us for an experience of your life!!
We are living in a world that is fast-paced and we want to accomplish so many tasks in a small amount of time. We constantly put ourselves through stress which affects our mind and our body. .
The constant stress activates our central nervous system and puts our body in a state of fight or flight response, which releases stress hormones, adrenaline and cortisol that increases our heart beats and rushes blood to the areas that needs the most in times of emergency.
When the perceived fear is gone, our nervous system should go back to the normal state which is “rest and digest” by activating our parasympathetic nervous system.
If our body fails to do that because we are stressed all the time, it can cause serious damage to our body.
So our job is to help our body to regulate itself and go back to the normal state. .
I believe one of the most effective ways to manage our stress is by bringing our awareness to our mind and body. We need to ask ourself what do we feel in our body? What our the thoughts that make us stressed? Which part of our body feels the most stress?
How can we care for and attend to that part? How can we let go of our thoughts and bring inner peace?
By now, I'm sure everyone has heard of the mind-body connection. It's well accepted that our thoughts have a huge impact on our physical health. I believe this happens in more ways than one. This first example I will talk about today is the easiest to understand when coming from a very mainstream science based background...and probably the most widely accepted as well. I will speak of the other way our thoughts affect our physical health in a later post. For now, here is a more widely recognized example of how mental stress/negative thoughts can effect the physical body:
How can one person bask in the sunshine of good health, while another person looks old before her time?
Even though we are born with a particular set of genes, the way we live can influence how these genes express themselves. Our lifestyle factors may even turn genes on or off. This is what we call Epigenetics....how our genes are expressed. Just because our parents or grandparents (for example) had ___ disease, or grew old looking before her/his time, doesn't mean we are destined to as well. Our mental outlook and the way we live our lives determine whether or not these genes are expressed.
In saying that, researchers are finding that negative thoughts and negative mental patterns may very well harm our telomeres (essential parts of the cell’s DNA).
