Oh no not again! More Malware laced apps were found lurking on the Play Store, which has recently been criticized greatly for its supposed protection against harmful apps, yet it seems that apps potentially infecting millions of users is becoming a weekly ordeal for Google.
This time four VPN apps, HotSpotVPN, Free VPN Master, Secure VPN and CM Security Applock AntiVirus, were all found to be using fraudulent ads, which allowed the operators to make more money at the expense of the companies the ads were representing.
Two more apps, Sun Pro Beauty Camera and Funny Sweet Beauty Selfie Camera, were found to be infecting devices with adware, with reports stating that ads were still being shown even when the app wasn't open.
The greater issue lies in the permission of these apps, which could allow them to record audio without user approval, install shortcuts, serve fake system alerts and even load automatically after the device restarts.
The apps have been taken off the Play Store and its recommended that all users uninstall these apps from their devices. Google has taken steps to combat this by extending the review time of an app before allowing it to be downloaded by users but even then, those who are creating malware are getting more and more clever to bypass all the defenses Google has employed.
