Really cool workshop today with Fanny Boucher, Master Intaglio Printer from Paris, over at Stable Arts, a new artist studio space off the Metropolitan Branch Trial. Learned about the héliogravure process for reproducing photos. It is a 19 century process with engraved copper plates that are inked and put through a press. The darkest black and lightest whites with ranges in between are based on how deeply the acid etched the plates. On display were some stunning works by Edouard Elias (schedules to be here but the US would not issue him a visa for entry) on migration. The prints made today and those on display dealt with migration and gentrification in DC. Thank you @stablearts for opening up your space today for creative arts and learning. it was nice to peek inside your building - an old Nabisco stable converted to studio space. I posted some videos of the héliogravure process in stories. #printmaking#heliogravure #héliogravure #photoreproduction#stablearts

Face in the Clouds. The colors in the clouds tonight and what looked like a bearded face in profile were trippy. #clouds#iseefaces
Grief overwhelms when there are victims of roadside violence. Recently two men sitting on a park bench were mowed down when a driver in a SUV crossed 3 lanes of traffic, plowed through 3 trees in a triangle park at 21st & Pennsylvania Ave NW and took out two park benches, including one they were sitting on. These men remain unnamed while next of kin are sought for notification. Their friend, Robert, was sitting with them in the hour before they were killed. His grief and survivor’s guilt is overwhelming. This incident highlights an intersection between senseless road violence and homelessness. A vigil was held to remember the victims on Thursday (the mayor was at a happy hour instead, by the way) and to call for improved road safety. DC has set up a Vision Zero policy to decrease deaths from vehicles but they are increasing as it is so far a hashtag policy without high level support or action. Aside from calling out politicians, donations to Miriam’s Kitchen or other outreach program is something we can do in their memory (thank you @handlebarsdc for that suggestion and for organizing yet another vigil to DC’s victims of road violence). #visionzero#vigil#walkdc#bikedc

The only tolerable time to be outside biking is well after dark this week. That’s been good for biking down to the mall. Photo 1 shows low listless the flags are. The second shot is trying to incorporate people that kept walking in front of me. The 3rd and 4th photos are reflections from the Capitol pool as I headed back home. The last one is how visible the International Space Station was last night. If you want to shoot that on Saturday you need better camera skills that i can do on the fly! #apollo11#apollo11at50#manonthemoon#iss

“Music promotion—at its best—lies at the intersection between a social experience and hospitality. DMV Deep understood and embraced this from their very beginning and that’s one of the many reasons we work with them at U Street Music Hall. They first came to my attention over a year ago when I noticed their Facebook group, whose content and dialogue is honest, forward-looking, open and deeply supportive of the DC underground dance scene. I was impressed. We invited them to host a party at Backbar where we provide opportunities and experience to young DJs and promoters. They quickly blew the roof off the place and were ready to do a show at U Hall. U Hall is big. 500 people is a lot of people vibing in one room. DMV Deep filled the space, but they didn’t just pack it out—they packed it out with great vibes and new dance music played by locals. That’s rare. But then something even more rare happened. After the show, they came to us and asked for honest feedback on how they could get better. I consulted with the U Hall team and gathered notes for them then gave them the club’s feedback, unvarnished. And to my surprise and delight, they listened and evolved quickly and asked more questions. This promoter gets it. They leave their egos out of it and focus on something that no one else is doing—the two main ingredients for success as a promoter, in my experience. I’m happy to work with DMV Deep and super excited to see where they go next. Happy one year anniversary! See you on the dance floor.” - @willeastman

Stopped by the Kremlin Annex last night. There have been protests at the White House the past year. While these protests are peaceful there are always nutters that jump the fence by the White House. In the third photo you can see how high the new fences will be. The more open iconic views are going away. #kremlinannex#protestpeacefully#dontacceptthecorruption#fence
