‘TIS THE TRUTH: An action-packed day of stakes at Gulfstream Park culminated in a victory for Sakatoga Stable’s Tiz the Law who picked up his second graded stakes score of 2020 in the Curlin Florida Derby (G1). Trained by Barclay Tagg, the New York-bred son of WinStar’s Constitution is a force to be reckoned with on the Road to the Kentucky Derby (G1) and sits atop the leaderboard with 122 points. Earlier on the card, it was Swiss Skydiver who blasted her way onto the Longines Kentucky Oaks (G1) leaderboard with a score in the Fasig-Tipton Gulfstream Park Oaks (G2) for trainer Kenny McPeek and owner Peter Callahan. Congratulations all around! (📸 No. 1: Coglianese/Derbe Glas) (📸 No. 2: Coglianese/ Lauren King)

Yesterday a friend came by to take me to a food pantry. Before we drove off, we were asked if we wanted raw carrots. We said sure. After a few minutes, the worker came back pulling a large dolly with a huge bag of lzrge carrots. Needless to say, my eyes widened at the amount. Wayyyyy too much! We scratched our heads as to what we would do with it. Just to enjoy the weather a bit, we drove around looking for parks my pups and I can visit. I started thinking about the conversations I had the day before with @roxybottoms. I told her I missed seeing her horses here on the Gram. Knowing I love animals, my friend told me there was a horse farm near my house. It was a "go" of course! I saw beautiful horses and a pony. Then it dawned on me to redonate the carrots to the horse farm. The place looked like it needed help. Blowing the horn several times was unproductive. I did see someone moving around. I don't blame them for not coming out due to the virus problems. So my friend carried the carrots out of the truck. I suggested we leave it near the mailbox. And we did with joy. Neither of us had pen and paper so we couldn't leave a note. But that was ok. Announcing who you are when giving from the heart is sometimes better when anonymous right? It was a good day!

Here comes the pony,
His work is all done,
Down through the meadow,
he takes a good run,
Up go his heels
and down goes his head,
It's time little children
were going to bed.

Ponies are the MOST stubborn animals, I am convinced.
~I spent an hour chasing this little bugger around the pasture today... This is Dart, my nieces pony. My sister, whom is pregnant with my sweet nephew, asked me to come and get Darts halter on him. He is a breeze to catch when he has his halter. When he doesn't, well let's just say my poor BIL chased Dart around yesterday for a couple hours with no luck and gave up!
Well I knew that Dart would try to give me a run for my money too, but I was determined that he would not win.
You know the rule, "if you get bucked off, get back up again". Well the same applies for a stubborn horse(or pony) that doesn't want to be caught.
You see, if they think that all they have to do is run from you and that eventually you will give up, they know they win.
So without a corral or small area to pin him up in we walked, we ran, I stood and watched as he galloped around me 🤦♀️🐎 ALL over the pasture. But I was determined. He walked, I walked. He stopped, I would stop, when he ran I would try to cut him off. We did this for at least an hour.
It was pretty warm today, probably around 80°. So we both were exhausted after a while. We were making our way back up the pasture one more time and again he would walk, I would walk. He stopped, I stopped. Then all of a sudden he turned and walked right to me. You see he finally gave in, and submitted. I was able to slip the lead rope around his neck and we walked back towards the bottom pasture where his grain and halter were waiting for him.
When you have worked with horses long enough you learn to read them, you learn how to communicate with them and you also learn to NEVER back down!
Thanks for the exercise today Dart! Til the next time 🤣🤗🐎 #horses🐎 #farmlifelove#crazypony#stubbornpony#horsemanship#poniesofinstagram#cowgirl#cowgirlup#farmlife#farmlifebestlife#chasingponies#ranchlife#rottenpony#ilovehorses#countryliving#countrylife#farmcardio#farmworkout
Shane’s Day two: lock down, locked up, or locked in.
After yesterday’s concern that we may be locked up for illegal movement, today with permits in hand it has felt much better. Looking around this morning it seems odd to see Horizon so quiet. There was all the usual stuff going on, horses in and fed, some getting saddled, coffee and banter. But there is an unnatural quiet here. I’m so used to it bustling with guests, staff, ponies and dogs.
Yet quiet as it is there is still a focus. Our guests Saul and Susannah chose to sit it out with us. Not much choice so stuck with us maybe. We get to hang out at breakfast, lunch, dinner, ride out and chew the cud. Same old Horizon just scaled down. Not sure I like the term “lockdown”. Or “locked up” for that matter. But I do like the idea of a “lock in” .

Do you believe in “heart” horses?
...... ...... ..... ...... ...... ...... ..... ...... ...
The phrase brings to mind a instant, unbreakable connection formed between horse and human, where everything seems to be sunshine and unicorns. And in truth, after 6 months of searching for my horse, there was a feeling of being tapped on the shoulder by *something* that said “hey... dude... you can’t let this one go” when I met Finn.... and I acted on that feeling. ...... ...... ...... ...... ....... ........ ....... .......
But Finn is very much his own person, and it is very important for him to feel heard, to feel confident saying no, to be given his space. For me to claim that I have an unbreakable bond with him, I feel is disrespectful to his choice in the relationship. Does he like me? Yes, but I also can never take that for granted. This horse has complicated feelings about the world around him. He can be suspicious that new people and new actions are intended to hurt him, and he will defend himself. Sometimes, I have had to push that barrier, and it affects the trust between us for a bit when I do. The relationship is constantly in flux. But it can always be built on.
..... ..... ..... ..... ....... ...... ...... ........ I think the heart horse concept can put a lot of unnecessary perceived pressure on the relationship between you and your horse if you take it too seriously. I certainly have had a cry about it from time to time, wondering if I am inadequate or something. But I’m not. I strive to learn for my horse, to be the best human I can. He will always have a home with me, I will be there for him when he turns 10, and when he turns 30. He is irreversibly twined into my daily life, he has changed me as a person. I walked down the aisle on my wedding day with my Dad on one arm, and my horse on the other. He knows I bring good things, and he always waits by the gate to be let out to explore the world with me. I feel safer on his back than I have ever felt with any other horse.... (Continues in comments)
