I had a client do hurdle jumps increasing in distance this morning, and it looked so fun that I had to do some myself! This is a great drill for supplementing athletic performance. A lot of athletes have explosive power and good reaction time, but lack controlled deceleration. A lot of injuries in sports occur when an athlete loses position when decelerating and then explodes out of that bad position. Work on this to prevent injuries and up your game!
Start with 6 hurdles spaced equally.
Start in an athletic position (think half depth squat with some forward lean like a hip hinge) with arms at your side and in line with the torso. Drive through the hips while throwing the arms up and forward, following through with the toes to jump over the first hurdle. Try to land halfway between the first and second hurdle in the same position you started in. Make sure your knees don’t collapse toward your center line upon take-off and landing. After jumping over all 6 hurdles, walk back to the start and repeat.
Space the hurdles at increasing distances for your next set.
Minimize your contact time between hurdles, but make sure you can keep good position! If you do this right, you should be able to gain momentum and make the longer jumps without exerting much more effort. If you start losing position, slow it back down or decrease the distance between hurdles.

I had a great time seeing some world class competition at the Tiger Paw Classic. It was my first time to the University of Clemson's campus. It was very nice catching up with a former athlete of mine, Olivia, who ran the 800.
I saw world 110m Hurdle Champion and American record holder, Grant Holloway along with some great performances on day 2 in the high jump with some great univerities from around the country in attendance. It got me hyped up to run again...then I remembered my tight muscles and achy back...I visualized myself running on that fast track at least 😂😂😉😉🏃🏾♂️🏃🏾♂️🏃🏾♂️💪🏾It's tough getting older. Keep stretching!!!

My brother Octavian aka Octo (400m State Champion and University of Loyola Athlete) explains his story/thought process about going through injury and the results that came after that.
Key Points: .
•You can blame it on the trainers and the coaches but at the end of the day YOU need to do a Self-Evaluation on what YOU are doing.
• Know when to STOP. Running through “real” pain can put you out longer than you need to be so BE HONEST with yourself.
•If something is recurring communicate with yourself and your coaches/trainers about the ROOT cause of what’s going on. Once you figure it out discipline yourself enough to take it in you own hands to MAKE SURE you’re taking the right steps to not only get better but stronger. Just as Octo said he took the summer to really work on himself.
