⁉️”What’s that black band that’s wrapped around your body?!”⁉️.
Question I get asked probably every day on here 😂. It’s a @garminfitness heart rate monitor. I always have it on while doing any form of exercise as it helps me evaluate the stress I’m putting my body under. I’ve just recently started to wear it during jiu jitsu classes to get a better idea of caloric expenditure, so my nutritionist @willgirling can make my custom plan even more precise. Being a researcher I LOVE data, so one of my new favourite things is to analyze my heart rate data after a hard session.
🇺🇸Still learning to use my heart rate in my training. It’s really cool to see the thresholds on speed intervals and to have historic data on how my heart responds differently as I gain cardiovascular strength.
If you don’t have a heart rate monitor but still want to include heart rate zones in your training, use the “talk test” ➡️ if you can talk in full sentences you’re probably in the aerobic zone (uses fat as energy and does not create lactic acid). If you can say around 4 words at a time you’re probably in the lactic threshold zone (uses fat and carbs as energy, lactic acid starts to build up). And if you can only say one or two words at a time you’re probably in the anaerobic zone (uses mostly carbs for quick energy and can only be sustained for short periods of time, like for interval training). Each zone has a purpose in training helping you train efficiently and potentially to recover faster 😊

Si no tienes tienes un monitor cardiaco, puedes usar la prueba de “hablar” ➡️ si puedes hablar en oraciones completas, estás en la zona aeróbica (usa grasa como energía y no crea ácido láctico). Si puedes decir al rededor de 4 palabras a la vez, estás en el umbral láctico (usa grasa y carbohidratos como energía, comienza a crear ácido láctico). Y si solo puedes decir 1 o 2 palabras a la vez estás en la zona anaeróbica (usa primordialmente carbos, y acumula ácido láctico. Solo se puede sostener por intervalos cortos). Tener en cuenta las zonas cardiovasculares puede ayudar a una recuperación rápida y a entrenamientos más eficientes.
What’s your resting heart rate ?
As a pro over 30 years ago mine was 27 bpm which I was told is one of the lowest ever recorded.
Now it’s about 35-40 bpm depending on my fitness level. . .
A normal resting heart rate value for an adult ranges from 60-80. If you’re fit, your resting heart rate should be significantly lower than this. . .
Try and get into a consistent routine of taking your resting heart rate when you wake up. If your resting heart rate is elevated, try and work out the cause and get on top of the problem. . .
Your body could be in a state of overtraining due to too much training and too little recovery.
Dehydrated: when dehydrated, your heart has to work significantly harder to provide enough oxygen and nutrients to the muscles. . .
Stress: mental and or physical stress causes your resting heart rate to increase, as your body is preparing for a fight or flight situation.
Your emotions: if you’re excited or scared, your resting heart rate is much more likely to be elevated. For example, before a race
