Broke up the 6 hr drive to Los Angeles, stretched our legs, & checked another amazing National Park off our list today!
Started our hike in @pinnaclesnps with a stubborn post-lunch BG of 200 mg/dL and 3 units of insulin on board. At approximately 45 minutes in, I saw I was 108⏬ and my pump had automatically suspended my insulin. We had a bit more uphill to go so I had a gel and my BG never dropped below 70 mg/d.
Ever since I switched to the @tandemdiabetes tslim, I’ve had to switch up how I approach hypos. While the Basal IQ has prevented a lot of lows (especially at night), I still get low particularly during activity. I’m still figuring out when to treat & when to wait to prevent a rebound high from suspending insulin + fast acting carb.
While there’s a lot of great technology emerging for T1D, every change requires a bit of adjustment, and we can’t expect these new devices to just do it all for us. While I’m excited for what’s to come in the next year, I know there’ll be a little bit of a learning curve and an adjustment period.
If you were at Manchester Print Fair on Saturday, you may have spotted my brand new print, finished late on Friday evening and packed up with the paint barely dry. Thankfully it was worth the late night (and having to pass on going out for drinks) as it went down well with folks and ended up being my best seller.
The print is another inspired by recent Scottish adventures, seeking cottages in the middle of nowhere nestled into pine tree forests.
It's titled Silent Forest, is 23cmx50cm, 2 colour screen print and part of an open edition. It's available over on Etsy now and I will have some with me (framed and unframed) at @northerncraft in Sheffield on Saturday.
