#ThrowbackThursday to May of 2010, when Alex appeared on the cover of @gothammag .. Back in 2010 when: He was still suiting up in pinstripes instead of a suit and tie everyday, @ARodCorp had been formed but @arod wasn’t as involved in the day to day operations of the Company as he is today, and #IG was barely being thought of 💡🤪
SP Deivi Garcia has been incredibly sharp this spring.
Here's a little report on Deivi Garcia:
Deivi is 20 years old, coming from the Dominican Republic. The Yankees signed him in 2015. In 2018, he would play for the Low-A Charleston Riverdogs. Garcia would speed through the minors. He reached Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre in 2019. He would pitch in the All-Star Futures Game in July.
Futures Game Stats:
IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 K
So far, Garcia has shown off an electric curveball and fastball this spring. Here are his splits over the past few seasons.
2018 (Low-A Charleston Riverdogs)
8 starts, 2-4, 3.76 ERA, 62 K, 40.2 IP, 31 H, 10 BB
2018 (High-A Tampa Tarpons)
5 starts, 2-0, 1.27 ERA, 35 K, 28.1 IP, 19 H, 8 BB
2019 (High-A Tampa Tarpons)
4 starts, 0-2, 3.06 ERA, 33 K, 17.2 IP, 14 H, 8 BB
2019 (Double-A Trenton Thunder)
11 starts, 4-4, 3.86 ERA, 87 K, 53.2 IP, 43 H, 26 BB
2019 (Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railriders)
11 games, 6 starts, 1-3, 5.40 ERA, 45 K, 40 IP, 39 H, 20 BB
Stats might be misleading but there is no doubt Deivi Garcia is trying out to be one of the Yankees Opening Day Starting Pitchers. Here is the current rotation:
Those above are the proven starting pitchers without injury.
With injury we have:
James Paxton (out til June recovering from surgery)
Luis Severino (out with forearm soreness indefinitely)
Pitchers competing for rotation spots:
Nick Tropeano (maybe)
Chad Bettis (maybe)
Garcia's performance will probably determine his fate to make the Opening Day Roster.
Will Garcia make the roster? Who will fill in the two remaining rotation spots? How long will Severino be out?

Gerrit Cole's fastball generated a strikeout 33% of the time it was thrown in a two-strike count.
That was the best PutAway% of any pitch in baseball in 2019.
It was only the only fastball to make the top 20. #GerritCole@dcone36 @AlexFast8pic.twitter.com/5vzjFzDzhT

BREAKING: Luis Severino has had forearm soreness that has dated back to the 2019 ALCS. Severino has been prescribed with anti-inflammatory medications and rest. GM Brian Cashman said this is an unknown issue and he does not know if the could be a short or long term injury. Luis can feel the pain in his right forearm when he throws his change up, and both Cashman and Boone noted that Severino has a loose body in his arm. Severino will travel to New York on Monday and will stay there for three days to undergo some tests. He will see multiple specialists and the issue will be overseen by Dr. Chris Ahmad. I am hopeful we don’t have a repeat of last year for the pitcher.
🔥The Yankees finally decided to become the Yankees again with this signing🔥
In 2009, CC Sabathia was handed the biggest contract ever for a pitcher by the Yankees. Now, 10 years later, they have done it once again with Gerrit Cole. He signed a 9 year/$324 million contract💰💵to give the Yankees their final missing piece: a bonafide ace at the top of their rotation.
Last year Cole went 20-5 with a 2.50 ERA and a 0.89 WHIP. Also, can’t forget to mention he struck out 326 batters👀In my opinion, he should have won the CY Young last year but came in 2nd to Justin Verlander. .
The spotlight is going to be on. Cole is in the biggest market in baseball now so you know what that means for his card prices📈Without pitching an inning yet for the Yankees, his Topps Update PSA 10 has increased $15 since the signing was announced on December 18. These cards are pushing $100 now and I think will keep going up.
There is a case to be made that this card is undervalued due to its population. There are only 146 PSA 10s out there and that is a relatively small amount for a card that isnt a SP or numbered. .
But, what is holding it down⁉️Well, the fact it is a horizontal card has to knock down some value due to eye appeal. Furthermore, although Cole was on a pooular team in the Astros, they clearly do not have the widespread fanbase that the Yankees do. .
Cole is widely considered the guy that is going to push the Yankees over the top. If he does take the Yankees to the WS and wins it, watch out💥

REPORT: Oakland Athletics right-hander Mike Fiers acknowledged Thursday that people have threatened him physically for blowing the whistle on the Houston Astros' sign-stealing scandal. "Whatever, I don't care," Fiers said, according to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle. "I've dealt with a lot of death threats before. It's just another thing on my plate."
Team comparison (3/29)
The Toronto Bluejays
This was pretty straight forward. The Jays are a strong upencoming team in the AL but they aren’t there yet.
Result: 10-1 NYY
Next up: Orioles

#GerritCole throwing his doctored glove with a baseball in it responds to #GleyberTorres' 2019 #Astros allegations with a friendly blindsided game of pepper. Torres woke up twenty minutes later. https://nypost.com/2020/02/18/gerrit-cole-responds-to-gleyber-torres-2019-astros-allegations/?utm_source=twitter_sitebuttons&utm_medium=site%20buttons&utm_campaign=site%20buttons … #Astros#Yankees#Dodgers#RedSox#NY#LA#Texas #Bostonpic.twitter.com/24hYs87yOf
It’s going to be interesting. Major players are due big paydays. #GiancarloStanton is on an albatross of a deal for a while. #GerritCole could deliver big on his contract but almost certainly impossible to predict how that’ll pan out toward the back end.
And the injury bug hits again...
Boone said it dated back to last season during the ALCS and it’s “definitely concerning”

Team Comparison (2/29)
The Tampa Bay Rays -
Result: 11-0 NYY
I warn you this is very misleading. The Rays are an extremely good baseball team and will be much better in 2020 than the Red Sox. But the Yankees are just all better when you match them up by position. These races were a lot closer than the Boston ones and I wouldn’t be surprised if the Rays give the Yankees decent competition as the 2nd best team in the AL East. -
Next up: Bluejays -

@arod : #TBT to 1994 and a couple of kids who had big dreams, but no idea they would someday play on the same side of the infield and - 15 years later - win a championship together in pinstripes. #derekjeter@yankees#adammodlin

BREAKING: #Yankees Starter Luis Severino has been dealing with forearm soreness since his ALCS start. Severino will see a doctor tomorrow. ———————————————————
Man can we ever catch a break.
Top 10 2B Rankings (5-4):
Jeff McNeil (5):
Jeff McNeil had an outstanding 2019 season, following up his .329 BA in his rookie campaign in 2018 with a .318 average over 510 ABs to go along with 23 HRs and 79 RBIs. McNeil’s xBA proves that his ability to hit for contact is no fluke; however, he also proved that he can bit for some power. The Mets lineup is certainly good enough to allow for McNeil to reach his potential, and with only 75 Ks in 2019, the 27 year-old finished with the second highest points per game average among second baseman (ESPN standard scoring) behind only Jose Altuve. In category leagues, McNeil can lead your team in average while also contributing in the HRs, runs, and RBI categories. McNeil’s ADP is 93.1, after players such as Jonathan Villar and Whit Merrifield, so look to grab him in the middle rounds of your draft.
Ozzie Albies (4):
Ozzie Albies built upon a great rookie season in 2018, hitting .295 with 24 HRs and 86 RBIs while adding 102 runs scored and 15 stolen bases. Albies is a clear cut 4-5 category 2nd baseman with a manageable 112:54 K/BB that makes him a great option in points leagues as well. The only notable aspect in regards to Albies is his hard hit % and average exit velocity, both of which are below average. With consecutive seasons of 24 HRs however, I think Albies has provided plenty of evidence that demonstrates his power. Having just turned 23, expect more of the same from Albies this season as he continues to grow into one of baseball's premier 2nd baseman.
