I've lived both sides of this graphic.
When I was younger, I would look at any cash I had as something to spend. If I had $1,000 I would logically split it up in my head. "$200 on new headphones, $300 on camera gear, $100 going out to dinner", etc. I had it so why not spend it on stuff I like!
Now when I look at money, I think about how I can best use that money to grow. When I see $1,000 I think "At a 10% rate of return, this $1,000 will become $2,000 in about 7 years and $4,000 in about 14 years". Now I can live on just a small percent of my net worth indefinitely while the rest continues to grow!
The poor habit is to spend your money down to zero. The rich habit is to grow your money into much more! Of course I spend money on things that I like. But primarily I know that freedom with my time and helping others is what truly brings me happiness. And I can have that by putting my money to work instead of spending it down to zero.

Drop a ”💯💯” if you agree!👇🏾👇🏾 “Their” opinion of us is not worth our financial security.

One year ago today we walked into the bank and made our FINAL mortgage payment. To God be the glory! You can check out the “PIF House” permanent story in our IG profile to walk down memory lane with us and see how we did it. #PaidInFull
We have officially paid off all of our credit cards! I had two and Matt had one. This was about $15k all together. I can’t believe it!! Neither one of us could tell you the last time we had zero balances. Now we are onto the car loan! 🙌🏼🎉🙌🏼

I've been pretty absent on Instagram lately so I thought I'd give an update which might also explain my absence.
2019 has been a huge year for our family. We've been busy & we've been making some big changes.
On April 25th we added twin girls to our family. They're lovely & sweet & paid for in cash 😂
On May 6th my husband handed in his resignation from the managerial position he has held for the past 10 years. He was offered a job that would allow him to spend much more time at home. His current position has him working 7 days a week, 16+ hours a day for about 8-9 months out of the year (closer to 18-20 hours per day for 3-4 of those months). The kids & I miss him dearly.
We listed our house for sale today. We have until January 2020 before we NEED to sell but can move anytime before then. We aren't rushed but felt like this is the right time to list our home.
On June 17 my husband will start his new job. This job will allow him more family time but it comes at a cost. He will be taking a $10K pay cut. To us, it is worth it. If we weren't debt free & budgeting, he wouldn't be able to accept this new job. To be quite honest, we wouldn't have been interested either. We'd be seeking a pay raise(we're already #teamtinyshovel).
It's amazing how debt freedom has changed our priorities. Our family comes first. We aren't chasing the dollar anymore. We aren't worried about what the Joneses are up to. We're content with what we have & more than happy to live below our means.
We started our debt free journey in April 2017 when we found out we were expecting baby #3. Every year, month, week, day, & minute on this journey I'm more & more grateful for our financial, lifestyle, emotional, & mental transformation.
Here's to the second half of 2019 being just as wonderful (but maybe not quite as eventful & life-changing) as the first half!

When you don’t use cash envelopes but you still want to be part of the fun😂
Seriously though, I love everyone’s cute cash envelopes! I was joking to my husband about making a debit/credit card envelope just to be funny and join in on the creative fun!
Then I realized hey, this makes a nifty photo of my cards which I am never able to photograph because it shows my personal bank info, so now I actually think these card covers are legit useful for my Instagram😂.
Cash envelopes have been too much of a hassle for us since we do a lot of shopping online, even for groceries (Walmart Grocery Pickup). However, I’d still recommend them to anyone new to budgeting in a heartbeat, because even though we don’t use them, cash envelopes can change your spending habits.
So, we will continue to use our cards which we find convenient, hassle-free, and great for tracking spending.
Whichever method you choose, just be intentional and make sure it’s serving you and helping you reach your goals!
What about you, cards or cash envelopes?💳✉️😎✌🏻

What the 🤬 ?!?! What does this water do? Did Jesus himself touch this water? This is CRAZY!!!!!
There is no way in the world I’m paying $10 for a bottle of water. I walked across the street and purchased this same bottle of water for $2.

Read. Run. Sew. This has been my Motto for the past few years, only I focused on each of them individually and intently for a year.
In 2016 I picked up sewing. I taught myself to sew from YouTube and never looked back. I opened an Etsy store and sold small toiletry bags and did seasonal craft shows. In this time I also picked up photography and running.
In 2017 I dedicated myself to running and fitness. I hated running but loved how it made me feel each time I accomplished something great. When you finish an 8 mile race or half marathon with a friend it's all emotions!
I've always loved reading but last year made a hefty goal of 33 books. I fell short and read 28 but what a way to dive into reading again.
Some of you all say to me what is a side Hustle I can do and I say what do you love? Find something you love and create a side Hustle from it.
I'm going to take my love of sewing and books and create booksleeves. There is money to be made in most things that we love to do. Take a moment and think about it.
SN you don't always have to be passionate about a Side Hustle just open to a new adventure for a season. What is a hobby that you love?
