You can’t take care of anyone if you don’t take good care of yourself. Why? Because YOU matter too✨
It’s not about lifting heavy or getting “that” physique.
It’s about eating right, working out, getting ample rest, & also taking care of your mental, & emotional health.
The only time I look back at the past is when I reflect on how far I’ve come.
Today, my dear friend reminded me of how far I’ve come. In 2016, I dropped out of nursing program in Boston to move back home to take care of my dad. I used to sleep and study in the laundry hall of a 1 bedroom apartment where I lived with my brother and dad. I was really depressed at that time and even thought of suicide at one point. Through many prayers, God told me he wasn’t done with me and that I too had a purpose to fulfill.
With faith, hard work, dedication, and persistency I got into a nursing program in California. I successfully finished nursing school this year and am currently doing my nursing preceptorship.
My nursing journey was nothing, but easy. During my third semester my dad was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, so I drove back and forth to Las Vegas to see my dad while I was finishing up the semester. I was mentally, physically, and emotionally drained. But...despite my personal struggles I kept going.
Through my experience and story I hope I can motivate you to continue chasing your dreams and passion despite what life throws at you. Bad things happen to mold you and humbles you to be grateful for even the littlest things in life. I hope this shows you that I’m only human (like you) and if I can do it... so can you💕

I tried to think of a caption...
Till I realized I was wearing one 😂

🌈She quietly expected great things to happen to her, and no doubt that's one of the reasons why they did🌈
Yuppers, this true!!
It’s a running joke amongst my family that I “live life on a rainbow” 🌈😊💫🦄
I've always had an optimistic perspective on life.
It's not that I do not face difficulties, we all do from time to time. I just have a way of always finding that silver-lining! It truly is a gift and I am beyond thankful for that gift! 🎁🙏🏼💗
I'm curious... are any of my friends/followers into the #enneagram . I was recently introduced to this system of #personalitytyping that describes patterns in how people conceptualize the world and manage their emotions. I find it extremely interesting!!! If you follow the energram can you guess what type I am? What type are you?
As a speech language pathologist working in the schools, I provide therapy every day, I listen to my students’ troubles, I advocate for their success. I pour my heart into my work, and often carry it with me. For those of us in the helping profession, it is incredibly difficult to detach from the systematic inequities that are much larger than all of us. 💜
Powerlifting helps me channel my focus, it helps me build confidence to take risks, and embrace unique challenges. It fuels me, it replenishes me in a way that I feel empowered to be better, and do better every day. It is not and has never been about numbers for me. I am in a good place, and I believe that lifting has played a huge role in my life to become more centered. 💜
If I am aligned and centered, then my students will feel my calmness, they’ll feel loved and secure. Studies continuously reveal the impact of having at least 1 caring adult in a child’s life. I am that person. If I can leave work knowing that I helped someone’s life in a positive way, then I am ready to do the same the next day, and the next and the next... So long as these bag of bones can move, you can bet I will continue to replenish myself and my head space by lifting, and lifting heavy. 🙏🏼 📸 Photo Credit: @shuttermami___ 📸

It’s been about 5 days since I last worked out.
That thought used to freak me out.
Go days without going to the gym? Wouldn’t I love progress?
In fact it takes WEEKS for your muscles to recover fully after intense resistance training.
It can take a month to actually loose strength and progress.
Skipping the gym when you need to is OKKK!
If you’re tired, burnt out, sore, or sick taking a week off might be a good idea!
Stop thinking you have to hit the gym daily to keep your progress. Start giving your body the rest it needs and you might be surprised to start seeing better results 💪🏼
When was the last time you took a week off???

Full Body Day!
This was kind of a bonus workout because I trained twice on Monday anticipating a storm. I like Full Body days. They leave me exhausted in the best way.
All in all, it was a very good week of training. I’m feeling genuinely proud of myself for all the physical and mental progress I’ve been making. Taking tomorrow and Friday off (working 2/4 of my last shifts at work, which is a workout in itself), so I’m gonna be very ready to tackle next week! 💪🏻
