“lovers were meant to cry”
- lone star, 1952.
p.s AVA GARDNER AND CLARK GABLE guys I’m crying
At one point in time, in the 60s, Elizabeth's breakfast consisted of mimosas and peanut butter and bacon sandwiches. Elizabeth loved food and did not have a strict diet even in the 50s and 60s, when she was considered the most beautiful woman in the world. After her marriage to John Warner, her depression led to more out-of-control eating and putting on weight. The public enjoyed humiliating her and Joan Rivers practically made her career (at that time) on ridiculing Elizabeth for her weight. Elizabeth took it in stride (or appeared to; it surely bothered her privately). In the end, despite the media being so cruel over her weight gain, it only served to relate her more to women that grew up with her. They appreciated her frankness on her weight and accepting of her flaws and loved her all the more for it. Also, it proved that no matter her weight or age, Elizabeth was still beautiful and a true star.

"I call upon you to draw from the depth of your being to prove that we are a human race, to prove that our love outweighs our hate, that our compassion is more compelling that our need to blame."

In 1967, Gianni was sent to Africa as special photographer on the set of The Comedians, a movie starring Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Alec Guinness, and Peter Ustinov. As the film wrapped, Taylor offered Bozzacchi a job as her personal photographer.

"In midst of our filming Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, she became a widow. Her beloved husband husband showman Michael Todd, the victim of a plane crash. Yet she preserved and acting was therapeutic. I was overwhelmed with her professionalism."
-Paul Newman on Elizabeth's performance as Maggie in Cat On a Hot Tin Roof.
September 17 would've been Roddy McDowall's 91st. A child star (seen romping with close pal Elizabeth Taylor here, when they were teens), the witty, erudite young actor segued into a distinguished career as a character actor. Acting from 1938 on, he appeared in such films as "Murder Will Out" (1939), "How Green Was My Valley" (1941), "My Friend Flicka" (1943), "Lassie Come Home" (1943), "The Longest Day" (1962), "Cleopatra" (1963), "Planet of the Apes" (1968), "The Poseidon Adventure" (1972), "Funny Lady "(1975) and "Fright Night" (1985), the latter of which marked a comeback of sorts for an actor who was never far from movies and TV. McDowall was also an amateur archivist of film, and was raided in 1974 because he owned copyrighted films and videos of films. Still, his sticky fingers helped preserve history, and for that he was honored by AMPAS when its archive was named for him. He was also a terrific photographer, especially of his famous friends, and I met him at a Chicago booksigning and was able to compliment him on his work with Taylor. He seemed genuinely moved. On the flip side, I was told by Sal Mineo's surviving partner that McDowall, who was resolutely closeted, resented Sal's free-wheeling gay ways, and even implied to the police that Sal's partner may have been involved in his death. A charmer of so many great actresses, he seemed, when all was said and done, to have been a complex if extraordinarily talented man. He died at 70 in 1998. #roddymcdowall#elizabethtaylor#salmineo#gay#lgbt#lgbtq#movies#tv#lassie#flicka#frightnight#celebritybirthays#gr8erdays
