Sure, what someone else went through may seem heavier and worse than what you went through - but pain and trauma are subjective. .. No one can tell you that they are hurting worse than you, or vice versa. .. Whatever you went through was the hardest thing YOU ever went through. Your pain isn’t less or more than someone else’s. .. I suffered for 24 years in a domestically violent home. If you suffered for 2, it doesn’t mean that your pain is less than mine or that mine is more than yours. .. Comparison is the thief of joy. But it is also the thief of peace, and healing. As long as you are comparing your pain or trauma to what someone else has been through, you won’t really be able to come to terms with your root issues. .. I don’t like the saying, “Someone always has it worse than you”. While that may be true physically speaking, I don’t think that it is a very helpful saying for people who are trying to heal from abuse or trauma. .. Trauma is trauma. Pain is pain. Abuse is abuse. We all have things inside that are hurting us and things that we need to heal from. .. Holistic health tips day 5. Your relationships matter immensely and in fact can have a positive or negative effect on your health. Healthy Social support is linked with health and longevity. social isolation predicts increases in mortality, particularly among older adults. Lesser known is the fact that conflictual relationships are also bad for our health. That is saying toxic relationships are toxic for your health. Peopl, who aren’t satisfied in their marriages, have higher risk of disability, reports of pain, and even higher likelihood of disease. This is the topic that hits me right in the gut as I have walked that path straight into the hospital more than once. It is also why I deeply compelled to share my story on how I overcame and walked away from toxic relationships. Now I’m not talking about the occasional disagreement or normal marriage conflicts that can actually be healthy if worked through properly. The quality of your relationships matters - a lot. If you feel that someone is not listening to you or not happy for you try to think about what is this doing to your health. If you are calling them fourth, asking them to hear you and see you and they blame, shame or stonewall you. You have the power to walk away. You have the power to set your healthy boundaries and you have the power to uphold them. Now it is true that not all people have the space to hold for us at all times. However a healthy relationship will understand and be able to communicate that from love. Seek therapy, invite them to grow together. If they choose to accept the invitation and lean in to the relationship with you it can be a beautiful thing. If they run. Let them. You deserve better. Seek therapy for you. Grow for you. And believe that there is a healthy relationship in your future with another. After my first divorce I acted OK. I was not. I did everything to not face my pain. As much as I ran I couldn’t run my emotions that I was stuffing down pushing away. And it almost killed me. My gut literally exploded manifested into Crohn’s disease. Then the universe handed me the lesson again... Relationships matter. Friends, family, work, it matters.
