Reelz Question: Does Race Or Gender Matter When Casting Fictional Characters?
I went back and forth on doing this question but the last one was handled with respect & care so I decided to go ahead with it. As we know, there was some turmoil when Halle Bailey, who is African American, was cast as Ariel in the live-action Little Mermaid. People have an image of the character from the animated film & don't want to stray from that. Some think there are racial overtones to the disapproval while others just want them to stick to the source material & what we know.
A similar thing happened when Lashana Lynch was said to be the next 007 in the new Bond film. In that case, there seemed to be an issue of race and gender during some of the social media debate. Of course we learned that Lynch would not be James Bond, only adopting the codename but the response had already made the rounds.
We've seen this before with some for it & some against it. Can Spider-Man be black in a live-action film since one of his personas is Miles Morales in the comics? Idris Elba is a fine actor but would you accept a black James Bond? How about a black Superman? A Hispanic Batman? Does race or gender matter with fictional characters?
On the other side we have casting like Scarlett Johansson in The Ghost in the Shell where Johansson (Caucasian) played a fictional character who is Asian in the source material. Is that ok? Love to hear your thoughts on this but please, like before, be respectful & sound off!

Last year Scotland recorded almost 1200 drug-related deaths, up 27% on the previous year.
That leaves Scotland’s drug related mortality rate ahead of any other country in the EU.
The rise is mostly being attributed to opiates, the most prevalent of which was heroin, which was involved in more than 1000 of the deaths recorded.

we just started a question/discussion series on the page and would appreciate if you appreciate in it and share your perspective. kindly respect others opinions and be kind. let’s educate and learn 🌻💛
today’s question is about afterlife. i will keep it simple as life was existing before i was born and it will exist even i die but my consciousness was not with me before birth into this life. it was probably in other body at somewhere or might be at higher consciousness/the universe/god. i think afterlife exist as it just makes me so exciting about what’s in there to be discovered. probably it will be better and less pollution than here, just kidding. but yeah, we need to focus more on what we have, and make this earth heaven 🌸
share your thoughts, always here to learn ✨
Is there terroir in rum? Let's jump on the current contreversial opinion bandwagon.
While it's true rums come in a staggering array of flavours and profiles, it would be irresponsiblebl to pin it all down to the nebulous (yet very real) concept of terroir. When dealing with blends and producers using mported molasses, decisions relating to the fermentation, distillation and maturation will have a far greater impact on the overall flavour, especially when the base product is largely homogenised.
But the concept of terroir can exist in some spirits; looking at the "estate" spirits produced on islands such as Jamaica the location and species of cane used to produce molasses may well have an impact. The alteration of these flavours through fermentation and their concentration through distillation may mask or exemplify these nuances, depending on the myriad of factors the producer has at their control.
On the side of "peak terroir" we have the cane juice spirits, notably Agricoles and the Haitian Clairins. These raw spirits using the fresh pressed juice of the cane rather than processed molasses have the best chance of demonstrating terroir, similar to wines and brandies. Anyone familiar with the sheer diversity of styles that comes from different distillates in different locations on the same tiny island can attest to the importance of terroir in these liquids.
So, do rums and cane spirits in general exhibit terroir? And does it really matter? As with many things in life, this is not a black and white debate. The answer very much depends on exactly which bottle you have in your hand in the time. I find all the rums in this lineup to be delicious, for different reasons, and regardless of their terroir influence. The issue only really arrives, as with The Great Sugar Debate, when the consumer is misled with marketing fluff. But that's a whole different issue.
Thanks to @the_natebrown for rocking the boat (as always).

Police in Tennessee State have asked residents to stop flushing prescription drugs down toilets as it can contribute to what police are calling 'meth gators.' The announcement came on July 13th after an officer caught a suspect flushing methamphetamine down a toilet. Flushing drugs become a problem when sewer water is held in retention ponds where entire ecosystems may be affected. The department stated, "ducks, geese, and other fowl frequent our treatment ponds, and we shudder to think what one all hyped up on meth would do." Waste retention ponds feed into more extensive water systems, and drugs end up being consumed by gators. Police encourage any residents to bring in any medication and prescription drugs into police offices for proper disposal.

O QUE SE DEBATE
A tarde é quente

Acham que política,
mas debatem mesmo
percebo e acho
que devia avisar.
