We survived baby’s first flight ✈️ landed in Wichita to spend the weekend with family. We figured a quick hour flight would be a good test run to learn all things traveling with a baby 👶🏼 also my camo pullover is lined in fleece and oh so comfy (40% off) from @express http://liketk.it/2GXtc @liketoknow.it #liketkit#babysfirst#babysfirstflight#united#friday#weekendstyle
Let’s talk about food.
In January 2017 I decided to cut out the processed stuff we were eating and drinking. It was my goal to begin cooking from home more often.
This was for budgetary and health reasons. We were spending a fortune eating out. And I was tired of purchasing all kinds of food with the intent to make it but throwing so much away when I opted for fast food instead.
I knew that in the beginning, I needed to be strict with myself, to create boundaries, and build habits that enabled me to reach my goals. For this reason I was pretty darn rigid for the first three months.
I truly wasn’t doing it to restrict but to give myself time to adjust, to learn how to make healthy meals, and for accountability. I knew that if I could just form the habit it would be so much easier.
Well, a week into this change my anniversary rolled around. We decided on an Italian place next to the movie theater.
And I did something I’ve never done during a dietary lifestyle change. I gave myself permission to order what I wanted instead of the lowest calorie option on the menu.
I knew that in order for this to be an effective lifestyle change I couldn’t dread anniversaries, birthdays, and family gatherings because I was going to be faced with hard food choices.
I needed to allow myself to exist as I was while working to facilitate healthy changes for our family.
So we ordered the nacho appetizer and I was feeling an entree salad so I got one of those. I had a few bites of Brady’s pasta and when they brought us out a special anniversary dessert, I ate half.
Zero kicking myself.
Just a good time, enjoying yummy food, with my husband. The scale definitely moved in the opposite direction but as I hopped right back into my routine it fell off within a couple days.
Instead of a race, wouldn’t you rather create healthy sustainable change, that leads you to where you want to go even though it might take longer than you’d like?
