June 19, 2017.
That was the day that I re-committed myself to make improvements to my health. January of that year, I started the Galaxy Media Weight Loss Competition at 416lbs. After the competition I slacked off a little and started seeing the pounds come back on. I HATED that feeling, so I decided to make a change. On June 19, 2017 I weighed in at 381lbs and told myself that I'd NEVER see that number on the scale again.
In the past two years I've come a long way, both mentally and physically. It's been a long, hard fought battle with my peaks and valleys. And although I can definitely say that I've been far from perfect and that I've gained weight back...then lost it again...then gained it again...then lost some again... I've still never seen 381 back on that scale again!! Currently, I sit at 359. Even though that's not where I want to be(at all), it's still 57lbs from where I started, and 22lbs from two years ago.
Now, I'm not focused on the past, I'm just looking forward to the future. Next weekend, I'll be meeting up with @ed_teneyck of @ultimatehealthandperformance and making a solid physical/nutritional plan to move forward. Then in 3 and a half weeks I'll be running the @boilermaker15k again! After that, I've got numerous 5k's on the calendar to keep me moving in the right direction. 💪

Someone today asked me what the difference was between a Trainer and Influencer... 🤓
It makes a lot of Personal Trainers mad: We work hard for our qualifications, put in countless hours learning, developing, and getting hands-on experience. We care for our clients, manage to fit people in for 6am or 10pm sessions and often work split shifts/weekends. Our job continues outside of the gym where we design programmes, further our education through courses and are always "on call". It is more than a full time job for most of us, especially if we are self employed, and given how physically demanding our role is, imagine how tired we can get.
Then we have some fitness ‘Influencer’ who seems to do nothing but post fancy content, yet has hundreds of thousands of fans. An Influencer’s soul purpose is to get likes and followers and will actually buy these to improve their Instagram account and fool other users into thinking that they are worthy of a follow. ⚠️ Shock, horror! (Come on, surely you are smart enough to read between the lines and see the truth).🙄 These people want the ‘fame’ that comes with being a social media celebrity and their whole approach is focused on boosting their ego whilst earning money from doing very little. Influencer's lack the experience, expertise, heart and soul of a true Trainer.
Remember... there is a BIG difference between us. So who do you choose to train you? Well that is up to you. Personally I would go with the Trainer who has complete natural social media growth and who you can rely upon. You should ensure whoever you choose has recognised qualifications, be someone who you can see yourself getting on with and they should also be someone who will educate you. Afterall, you are entrusting this person to improve your life. Don't follow trends... break the algorithms of social media and find someone who really cares.
