I had the incredible honor of being the keynote speaker at a recent Naturalization Ceremony in Oakland. 828 people from 86 countries took the oath to become US citizens.
I had the chance to talk with some of them after the ceremony & congratulate them on becoming our fellow Americans. I asked why they made the choice to go through the process to become a citizen. I heard so many inspiring stories of love, a desire for a better life, family, and opportunity. I was blown away. Many of the people I met dreamed of becoming an American... something many of us take for granted.
Today, on the 4th of July, take a moment to reflect on why our country was founded and the hope the signers of the Declaration of Independence had for our new country. That hope is still alive today, and it’s apparent in the smiles of these new citizens.
I will post the full speech to IGTV and also my Facebook page at facebook.com/katiekpix

It was surreal getting to perform at @harvard’s first ever citizenship ceremony for multiple reasons - but mostly because as I looked out into the crowd I saw a sea of faces of different races, backgrounds and walks of life. And that is what in my mind America stands for.
As the daughter of immigrants, I am aware, but can only barely understand the struggles my parents went through in coming to this country. And while I’ve spent half my life each in the US and India and have more of a global perspective than I did in my childhood, just the beauty of seeing people come together to feel like they’re a part of something is so special.
#thankupls @andrewbostrommusic and @charityannbrady for performing with me - it was such a blast 🇺🇸💜💖🇮🇳
Officially a citizen of the land of opportunity! Thank you to the Indigenous people of Australia for allowing me to be a part of your ever growing family. For quality of life the past 6 years and to plenty of chances for growth in my future. I am Australian!
So happy to get my Citizenship after 6 years in America , Alleluia 🥳🥳🥳 12th of July! 1 year took me to wait since I apply our documents. Test was pretty quick and easy. Of course I was prepared for interview and worry a little bit, but 25 questions went fast. Tuesday, July 9th was my interview and Friday the same week I’ve got invitation for Ceremony. I did not expect it. Such a good surprise. An interesting fact that 12 of July is Birthday of my native city Pertopavlovsk ( in Kazakhstan) where I was born. The city is named after the Saints: St. Peter and St. Paul. So it coincided with the acquisition of citizenship and the holiday of my homeland. 🙏🙏🙏 So much gratitude for my mom and friends who helped me and support to apply for documents online!!! 😊🥰🇸🇮🇺🇸🇸🇮🇵🇷🇸🇮🇵🇷🇸🇮🇵🇷🇸🇮🇵🇷🇸🇮🇵🇷 Thank you Universe for this Gift to feel Freedom. 🙏🙏🙏 This Holly land opened up in me spirituality, wisdom, truth, evolution of my soul , life experience, connection with thousands of people from different countries, all over the planet. 🙌 I feel so blessed to leave in this Sacred Holly Land with Spirit of Native Americans. Strong and Magic Shamanic Healing Earth Vibes! Constitution says: We are the People! We are All One. Collective mined is very powerful. We need to keep Indians traditions to respect others, to connect with Nature, Animals, Trees, to remember that Fire is Holly and have a Spirit. To remember how to use Sacred Medicine, with love and intention of Peace on Earth. Aho 🙌#citizenshipceremony #happyday#ceremony#citizenshipceremony#nativeamerican#traditions#indians#hollyland#home
