Celebrating my longest ever run on Saturday 15th February! 21 miles or 34km uphill along the Ashton then Peak Forest Canal. The views as you rise up 18 locks to Ashton across the river Tame then 16 further locks tightly packed like a flight of stairs to the summit at Marple were breathtaking! Much of the route follows the Goyt valley and the landscape is dramatic. By halfway, the storm Denis weather arrived there was no going back and I decided to go the end of the canal in the lovely town of Whaley Bridge! It was tough, the last 6 miles lasted ages and I arrived in the dark. Sometimes running with a friend really helps although I suspect they might have sensibly cut the run short! On the train back to Manchester, passengers from Buxton dressed for a night out stared at me curiously as I shivered and ate my body weight in hot cross buns and bananas 👌🍌🍌. So a marathon training run turned into a total day out, a test of mental resilience and a voyage of discovery! I'd love to try this again in better weather with friends! I'm training for my first ever marathon on 5th April in Manchester for Kidneys for Life a local charity that does great work. As a nephrologist I guess it's close to my heart (and Kidneys! )
🏃♂️🏃♀️🏃♂️ Nach dem Run mit der Crew von WerunthisEssen am Montag, standen gestern die CanalRunners Dorsten auf der Agenda, womit die Off-Season allmählich für beendet werden sollte.
🗒️🧘♂️🏋️♂️Alltag und mind. 3x /Woche laufen plus - wenn möglich - 1x /Woche Stabi ist nun das Ziel, um den HM in Barcelona im Februar gemütlich geniessen zu können.
❓ Bereits im letzten Jahr fiel es mir gar nicht so leicht, aus der Off-Season wieder in Schritt zu kommen. Habt ihr das selbe Problem oder alles easy bei Euch? Oder hattet ihr gar keine wirkliche Off-Season?

Glad I've got the running bug back... but with less than 4 weeks until race day its not ideal to be running this slow. I need to remind myself you can't cheat training. My finish time will reflect my lack of training which is frustrating. But lesson learnt.....again! Must train harder and race easy! ...probably the only person praying their race gets cancelled and prob the only race out there that wont 😂🙈 #canalrunning#slowandsteady#trainhardraceeasy
Sacked off running with KHRC tonight and chose to run in the daylight just as dusk was setting in. Makes such a difference having the sun out on a run 🌞💛 And spent the evening repotting my cactus instead and getting some herbs seeds planted. 🌱💚 had such a productive day for a change!!!🙌
