I started writing this book because I was very depressed after my grandmother died. It started to conjure things inside me I haven’t felt in a very long time. Grief not only for my grandmother but for all the people I have loved before that were no longer in my life, for the best, or for the worst. I’ve dedicated this book to the people I’ve loved, because I believe even though we can’t take it all with you after you go, some of those feelings linger from beyond. I feel them. Reading in bed is a lifelong habit for me. Most recently I’ve been reading Mary Karr’s “Lit”. Because I do so much life writing and memoir writing, it is so important to read the best of the genre and Karr is indeed among the best. . With ease and smiles

This house is cold

The mildewed walls

The feckless rats
Do keep their rest

Their red eyes judge me -

I take my walks in silent halls
Wind my arms around the trees -
I throw white stones at all the birds
So they won’t dare to look at me
O cooing dove
Your nest was made
Deep in the weedy hollows
Within my heart, this viper’s nest -
Where rage and passion follows

To all the ones who step outside
Without a thought of grief -
I envy you!
Oh treasures, see you later
Somewhere south of the equator
Oh that I could hang in your arms and die
Like a sad man-leaf
