Vegan Thanksgiving 2019 was a success!! Mac n’ cheese, yams, mashed potatoes, collard greens, stuffing, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, cranberry salad, rolls, cornbread, pumpkin muffins, and apple pie! All made by yours truly! I cooked for seven hours but it was so worth it! We have leftovers for days- yes!
We’re updating our hours! Beginning with our very first “UPROOTED” happening this Saturday, we’ll now also be offering Saturday night dinner! New hours will be Thurs, Fri, Sat 5-9pm for dinner, Saturday breakfast 9a-1p, and Sunday brunch 10a-3p! You asked, we listened. The breakfast menu will feature a few new items, so be on the lookout for its release in the next 24 hours 🙌🏼

On Sunday we went to my friend’s Birthday brunch. I had the curry! At that time, the restaurants were filling to 50% capacity to help keep down social density. Now, here in Buffalo NY, our restaurants are closed except for takeout due to COVID-19. I’m glad we got one last hurrah in before it’s time to really practice social distancing to keep ourselves safe. As a social worker, I’m considered an essential worker, like doctors, and at this time I’m still working. Just wanted to post one last photo of pretty food until things calm down. On special tonight and tomorrow morning (until sold out), “The Reuben Hash!” It’s a deconstructed Reuben with potatoes and onions, sautéed kale, beet-brined corned “beef” seitan, sauerkraut & house thousand island. Dinner tonight until 9pm, Breakfast tomorrow 10-2. Then a new special tomorrow night!

Enjoyed our dinner @taste.of.siam last night! Our server had great suggestions. Mmm crispy tofu for the app and on my entree there are rice noodles you can’t see and a tasty savory sauce that wasn’t to brothy! Veg tip: specify no fish sauce to your server 🐟 #BuffaloVeg#tasteofsiambuffalo

My bestie and I had a coffeehouse date last week and got housemade #nondairy chai lattes! They were so good! I never get to have chai lattes anymore because most places use a powdered chai mix that has dairy... so when I asked if their chai could be #vegan and found out it can since its housemade, I was thrilled!

For a Christmas gift, I took my partner S to Rochester last weekend! We had a romantic dinner at this vegan restaurant! The food was delicious! I had the Compost Plate and S had the Avocado VLT and Mac salad. We shared a brownie sundae for desert! Yum! Definitely will be back one day!

For my birthday dinner S took me to the Steer! Normally, I love their food. We tried the #vegan potato skins for the first time and they were good! S got her usual- #thebeyondburger. I got the same meal I got when we last went- the lentil loaf and mashed potatoes (vegan). The mashed potatoes were good but the lentil loaf was not. I hate to say it, but I just couldn’t eat it. It was extremely dry and terribly unflavored. Sometimes the vegan food there is great and sometimes it is not. That is reality. Some chefs do not make vegan food as well, unfortunately. I was very unhappy because I told the waitress I did not like it and they did not offer to get me something different or take it off the bill. I was especially upset because it was on my birthday (which the waitress knew and did not even offer up a”happy birthday”). I also was hoping for a free piece of vegan cheesecake for my birthday.. but nope. Do restaurants not give people desserts on their birthday anymore?? If someone is choosing your establishment on their birthday, I’d assume you’d do something nice. 🤷♀️ maybe that’s just me! Sadly, I don’t think we’ll be going back for awhile.

Yesterday evening S and I went on a fantastic double date at the @thesteer. S got the beyond burger and I got a house salad (not pictured), the lentil loaf, and #vegan mashed potatoes. It was all SO good! The vegan loaf was amazing and it was so nice to be able to order mashed potatoes at a restaurant! Definitely recommend!!

Presenting: the vegan lasagna at @thesteer. This meal was incredible! There were actually no noodles- just squash- which surprised me. Yet, it was so good! This meal had vegan cheese (the same tasty one that is on the vegan meatball pizza) and beyond meat crumbles. I would order this again and again!
Homemade apple pie and vanilla 🍨 .
My partner’s birthday was on Wednesday and her favorite desert is apple pie! So I tasked myself with making her a #vegan apple pie for the second year in a row- but this time with homemade crust!
I found an amazing recipe that did this cross-cross crust which was very new to me. The pie didn’t come out looking perfect (but not too bad either), although it tastes divine. Honestly, it’s the best apple pie I’ve ever had (sorry Gram).

I had the #avocado#toast and a #vegan #doughnut! It was grapefruit glazed... one word... yum. They had other vegan items on the menu as well, and I’ll definitely be back to try more!!

Had a really fun time trying out @cantina_62 and their vegan options! They have a separate vegan section on the back of the menu. The space is nice and open. The staff is super friendly and helpful. I love making breakfast in mason jars!! Last week we had chia pudding and this week is overnight oats! For the oatmeal, I used 1/2 cup oats, 1/2 cup almond milk, tbsp maple syrup, dash of ground chia seeds, dash of ground cinnamon, blueberries, and sliced almonds!! Hearty and delicious!
