🎥 #MovieReview: last night I watched a blind buy - Neeson doing his Neeson-Old-Man-Action-Genre thing in #ColdPursuit!
Format: #Bluray 💿
Synopsis: A grieving snowplow driver seeks out revenge against the drug dealers who killed his son. Based on the 2014 Norwegian film In Order of Disappearance.
Colour me surprised. The trailer *really* undersold this film. There's an undercurrent of dark humour running through the entire film that barely showed up in the trailer. It made the film immensely enjoyable and quite refreshing when stacking up against the other Neeson films of the last 15 years.
It honestly felt like director Moland was sprinkling a touch of Coen Brothers, a little Martin McDonagh (In Bruges), and a dash of Guy Ritchie into a pot and approaching the material with that mindset. I'm not going to act like it neared the brilliance of those artists' best, but it definitely resulted in the film having its own quirkiness that played to my sensibilities.
Neeson was perfect. He played things with enough self awareness that you could see the wink in his eye as he took the standard Neeson-revenge film and messed with it. He had the self control to stop it short of parody though. The rest of the cast was good too.
A welcome surprise.

The digital photography is nice and clean. There's some really pleasing detail at times, though occasionally that dips in darker scenes. Colours are well represented. There are no encoding issues.
The Atmos track isn't showy, but it's very well rounded and dynamic when it needs to be. I also really liked George Fenton's score. In a career of almost 50 years, I've seen heaps of movies he's scored, but this is the first score I've *really* liked.
