🇬🇧🇪🇺How not to negotiate Brexit — the essential guide: The risk is that mutual interest in an agreed outcome is lost to emotion.
The FT's Philip Stephens writes: 'Twenty-five or so years ago the then foreign secretary Douglas Hurd wrote a short ministerial guide to negotiating in Brussels. Prime minister Theresa May would do well to dust down Lord Hurd’s advice as she prepares to invoke Article 50 of the Lisbon treaty formally to launch Brexit talks with Britain’s 27 EU partners.
Anticipated it may be, but triggering Article 50 will still deliver a shock. It will transform the relationship between Britain and its erstwhile partners — representing for the latter the burning of the last bridge across the channel. It will crystallise the sizeable risks on both sides and unleash emotions — hubris on the part of the British, an impulse for retribution among others — that could quickly derail talks. A phoney war may become, well, something akin to a real one. The protagonists should be looking for ways to limit the casualty count.' Read more at FT.com

The curse of the consultants is spreading fast: What was a niche for firms such as McKinsey has turned into a management industry.
The FT's John Gapper writes: "Warren Buffett will go to great lengths to stop Berkshire Hathaway using consultants. “If the board hires a compensation consultant after I’m gone, I will come back,” he promised its annual shareholder meeting on Saturday. It was a joke, but from the heart.
It makes him highly unusual, since the corporate world is heading in the opposite direction. Everywhere one looks, there are more and more consultants — on strategy, investment, operations, compensation, digital transformation, technology, marketing. Some businesses seem to have been entirely occupied by consultants. What was a niche for a handful of wizards in firms such as McKinsey & Co and Boston Consulting Group has turned into a thriving industry that keeps on growing faster than many of its clients. Consultants now do many jobs that companies once performed themselves." Read more at FT.com

How Britain’s Brexiters lost control of Brexit: Cabinet ministers are in open conflict about the shape of a deal with the EU.
The FT's Philip Stephens writes: "Theresa May won the election and lost it. The prime minister has now shored up her minority government by striking a tawdry deal with Northern Ireland’s Democratic Unionist party. A pact with such a reactionary group of MPs will do the reputation of the Conservatives no good at all. In truth, Mrs May’s premiership is over.
Officially the government’s Brexit policy remains unchanged: it will leave the single market and customs union and banish the European Court of Justice. Politically and, in the view of the Treasury, economically, this is untenable. Ministers are in open conflict about the shape of a deal with the EU27. Mrs May lacks the authority to impose cabinet discipline and the votes in the House of Commons to secure the outcome she favours." Read more at FT.com

'Your country needs you: Brexit’s patriot act'
The FT's Robert Shrimsley writes: "Stung by some of the recent criticism of the media, I have decided to be more patriotic about Brexit. I had not previously thought I was being otherwise but when Britons of the stature of Andrea Leadsom and Liam Fox tell you that you are letting the country down, well, you have to sit up and take notice.
It came as something of a shock, I admit, to discover that having even a twinge of doubt about the competence of the crack team of political strategists that is the May cabinet might place someone on the treason spectrum. But you can see the point the Tories are making here. Britain is standing alone against a hostile continent. Careless talk costs lives. We don’t want Johnny European finding out that he’s up against the diplomatic equivalent of Dad’s Army. (Oh, sorry, bit disloyal there.)" Read more at FT.com

I see you NICU warrior mama,
Who became a mother, a nurse, a physical therapist, speech therapist, and occupational therapist all at once.
Who is the caretaker, house cleaner, medication organizer, supply inventory keeper, dressing changer, shot giver, food provider, appointment driver, play time friend, strong arms and loving heart.
Who had to learn quickly how to care for not only a new baby, but a medically complex baby.
Who rearranged her home and her life to give her baby the best, most comfortable life possible.
Who loves without end and gives without expectation.
NICU Warrior mama, you are strong. And you are not alone.
You have many jobs, but the most important one is being a mama. 💜

Today marks 3 years married to my husband, Matt (aka the backbone of this creative venture). I do not write the following to him, but to you. So you know that there are good people in the world. Pure hearts. This guy has swam out into the ocean to save a stranger from drowning and he has saved a little kid from running out into traffic. That sounds like something from a movie but it's true lol. I've seen him stop to pray in the name of Jesus for the injured and the injured be healed. I've personally witnessed him give freely of his money, time and energy over and over again. A lot of the time to people he doesn't even know. What hits closest to home is the way that he has given to me. Over and over again he puts me before him. Every other relationship I've been in felt like I was the sun and it was my responsibility to bring warmth and light while ending up feeling cold. With him it's like we are 2 suns warming eachother and idk if that makes sense to you. But just know this. There are good people in the world. Selfless people. Jesus makes people good. Today I'm extra grateful for all that He has done in and through my husband, and that I get a front row seat to it all. also I'm extra grateful to have a husband that supports my creative process in all ways possible. I hit the jackpot. 💃
