I was so honored to perform tonight artisourvoice. There was so much talent in the room. #womeninart#womeninart#arkansasartist @ Arkansas Arts Academy https://www.instagram.com/p/B8iDXFmBHDj/?igshid=jctdp4r7x9i9 …
It's been a while since I've made this Buffalo/Bison design, especially at 18" across. Up for grabs! Let's add some Americana to your walls, people. 😁This guy is covered with wood that tells a story. But also, pieces of wood that tell many individual stories. Such is life.
Grateful for the opportunity to have my work on display in the lobby of the @waltonartscenter during the run of the show, “Once on this Island” @onceislandbway.
In the show, the costume designer used many found objects and upcycled materials for the wardrobe of the main characters. So to highlight that theme, local designers submitted their upcycled/recycled creations to be featured as part of the “Divinity from the Discarded” exhibit.
This was so wonderful to be a part of because it showcased what beauty can be created from items that most would view as trash and you KNOW that’s what we’re ALL ABOUT!! Each design was so unique and used completely different materials.
My design was part of the collection I created for Spring 2019 @nwafashionweek. It was made entirely of test print and misprinted t-shirts from screen printing company, @bunlimited. I utilized the artistic graphics in a collage pattern on the leggings and accessories. The top and pompom crown were created from thin strips cut, knotted, and woven together until it formed the desired structure.
I called my design “The SPACE to Transform” because the leggings have a very clear astronaut and space exploration theme.
So thankful to be able to find more ways to utilize this wearable art and spread the word about sustainable fashion!!

I spoke in church yesterday, and the thoughts I shared are still hanging around today, so I thought I'd mention them here as well.
Usually when our leaders ask a member of the congregation to speak, we are given a particular topic (like keeping the Sabbath holy or the importance of scriptures). However, when they asked me, I was told I could speak on whatever I wanted. It didn't take me long to come up with something to share, though.
Given that life has been sort of difficult lately, with a lot of unknowns in my future, I spoke about these hard moments in life:
Sometimes, it feels like we are hitting a lot of dead ends, and we struggle to understand why. But I've recently begun to realize that perhaps they are not dead ends. Perhaps, they are really just a series of doors closing down a long hallway. And maybe all those doors are closing because we need to continue down the hallway until we get to the right door.
I really do believe that God has a plan for all of us. And it's not always clear where He is leading. But the hard times make us appreciate the good times SO much more than we otherwise would have.
So if you are in the mire, if another door has just slammed in your face, know that when you get through this (because you will), that your joy will be that much deeper on the other side. The pain you now feel is carving out a deeper well that will be filled with a greater measure of happiness than you have ever known before.
P.S. If you're interested in reading my entire talk, you can do so via the link in bio.

M Y S T O R Y: Part One 🌷💙🙏🏼 At the end of 2018, near Thanksgiving, I randomly gave my Grandma a call to check in on her. She answered, with fear in her voice, “Well, Caitlin...your Dad is here and driving me to the hospital.” I had no idea she was sick. Things slowly got worse and we all knew this Christmas would be her last. It was heartbreaking. In the midst of grief, I had this overwhelming desire to paint even though I had never really painted before. In my childhood family yard, I made her a large canvas, full of color bright pinks and oranges (her favorite). Like a child, my desire was to create something beautiful from love to balance the pain. It was a humble endeavor, but she loved it. And she showcased it in her room proudly. 💙🌷 In late January, Houston and I decide to take our yearly trip to snowboard in Santa Fe. It’s our absolute favorite. Second day there, I got the call. She’s gone... after a slow breakfast, we sit in Houston’s truck and I turn on my Spotify playlist full of her family trio songs. Out of the 100+ songs, “My Adobe Hacienda,” started playing as the first song. From my heart of hearts, I knew she was watching over me. And I cried. 💙🌷 H & I had an incredible day on the slopes. My soul is lightest on the snowy mountain tops. H bought me my first snowboard and my very own snowboard boots that Christmas. Not gonna lie, I felt so cool. At the end of the day, we ate dinner and found our way to a chill bar. We were just chatting, then he turned to me and said, “Now you’re Cat Brown.” (Brown is my grandma’s maiden name). So strange, because he was right. And it felt like in some way he ordained and/or honored me by being the first to state it for me or gift it to me. From that moment, everything in my life started to change. 💙🌷 Drop a 💙🌷 if you’re following!! Part 2 coming soon.
Fun fact: time is meaningless. I absolutely cannot believe it takes me 1 hour to complete that little, texture wise. It feels more like 20 minutes, if I was to put a number on that trance which is pyrography work! .
I felt comfortable posting this WIP because I still have to go back and color after I finish up the circle texture. This is for an art trade so it may be a while until I can post the finished one!
This painting is definitely going to be an exercise in minimal detail. Which is very hard on me, lol. The paper is too absorbent and rough to allow much detail at all, so I’m going with just color and impressions of feathers and shape. They’re still cute, though. I’ll work on them more tomorrow. Still in #doha#artinprogress#arkansasartist

This charming home was such a treat to paint. 💕 I happen to live just a few blocks away from it in the @fayettevillear Historic District, and was so happy I finally got a chance to paint one of the lovely homes I’ve admired on evening walks through the neighborhood for so long. 💕🏡
I’m not taking any new custom orders at the moment, but make sure you’re on my mailing list to be the first to know when slots become available! I’m so grateful to all of my customers who have trusted me with these special projects. 🙏🏼 #mayweflycustom

Made bread today and actually got the crust right ❤️, I almost cleaned the house, got some relax time in, and am finishing off the day withdrawing. Happy camper over here. .
I’ve been a little quiet over here and that’s mainly because I’ve been working on some projects that I hope to share with you soon! I hope you all have had a good Monday!

Current work in progress. It needs some darker blue for more contrast but I like the direction it's headed! 😍
Sometimes the work just flows and I can finish in an hour or less and other times it takes weeks to months of reworks until I'm happy. 🤷🏼♀️
I’m super excited to announce my inclusion in the fall iteration of @theotherartfair#TheOtherArtFairBKLYN November 7th-10th at the @brooklynexpocenter
I’ll be showing large scale lenticular prints and discocosmos sculptures ✨🌑✨ come see me next weekend! (bonus: my booth is by the bar 🍷😉)

I haven’t had much time to do my own stuff today, my kids are home from school. But I did sneak away for a couple knots and to get some order packages set up for tomorrow.
It’s been a hot minute since I’ve just let the knots take me where they wanna go. 🥰 But it really is a love/hate kinda thing. Lol, I really do get on my own nerves, I unknot so much work, but I do not really plan designs, so I think I have the perfect vision but I end up hating it, so start over so much. Anyone else?!
