Ta-Nehisi Coates talking with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez...an eventful day into evening with amazing vibrant, impactful and inspiring speakers.
The political parties in this country are white supremacy (republican) moderate, centrist, corporate democrats (moderate republican) and normal progressive democrats, the progressives are not far left...there is no such thing as far left. Progressives are what the Democratic Party used to be! Moderates are calling themselves progressives, which they are not...but they are trying to capitalize and appropriate the progressive title...why because the people are moving toward and want a progressive agenda and its policies. This false two party system does not allow for the representation of people. •

By @aoc ~ “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” - MLK
MLK Day is not a day to center the convenient King. It is a day to engage with and reflect on the dangerous King - the one who directly challenged white supremacy, spoke out against militarism, and denounced the gross concentrations of wealth alongside unconscionable levels of poverty. Let it be known that Martin Luther King Jr. advocated for universal healthcare, housing rights, the end of war. MLK championed unionization of the most vulnerable workers, cautioned against the excesses of runaway capitalism, and advanced an argument for basic income while denouncing the racial wealth gap. In MLK’s time, he was unpopular and disliked. He was denounced as radical, divisive, and unrealistic. Ever wonder why that’s not the King we learned about in school?
Far too many politicians take the opportunity to celebrate MLK Day while resisting his agenda and undoing his legacy. Not us, not now.
Grateful to have engaged this day meaningfully with Queens and Bronx faith leaders, @unitedblackout, @tanehisipcoates, & many many others.
Here’s to the Dangerous King.

Hagamos que las cosas pasen!!

"In the last ten years, private equity is behind 597,000 lost jobs."
This is what Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez had to say about private equity at today's congressional hearing, "America for Sale? An Examination of the Practices of Private Funds."
I’m honored to have participated in the @berniesanders@repocasiocortez rally this weekend in Venice. This man has a proven record of public service and NEVER falters or settles on his values and ALWAYS speaks up in the face of injustice and advocates for working class Americans of all races, genders, orientations, and backgrounds. He has the courage to stand up and fight when other candidates back down in fear that one of the richest and most developed countries in the world won’t embrace the “radical” idea that healthcare and housing should be affordable, that education shouldn’t be synonymous with crushing debt, that wealth distribution in this country is obscene and there’s no reason that the top three richest people own more wealth than half our population combined AND don’t pay taxes on it, that above all we MUST prioritize protecting our planet so we have somewhere to live...
He has the vision, the drive, the guts, the proven track record to do this work—and the awareness that this is not going to happen overnight...that this is not just about 2020 or the next 4-8 years....that this is a MOVEMENT...that being “too progressive” is fucking bullshit...government should have the goal of PROGRESS...especially in a country like the United States of America.
I could go on, but don’t take it from me, look into Bernie’s platform, his history, his voting record, he is the real deal—-he has my respect and my vote. ✊🙌💙2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣0️⃣
When the market crashes, cities go bankrupt, pensions aren’t being paid, the dollar becomes worthless and China dumps our debt you better believe #alexandriaocasiocortez won’t be having any issues. Neither will Trump. You? Stand by.

“Groan.” That was Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's response when New York Magazine asked her what role she might play as a member of Congress should Joe Biden capture the White House in 2020. The congresswoman from New York complained in the interview published Monday that Democrats nationwide can cultivate "too big of a tent."
Ocasio-Cortez broadly lamented what she identified as the outsize influence that more moderate Democrats wield within the party's House majority, labeling the chamber's centrist wing "the tea party of the left." Biden, who spent decades in the Senate before serving as vice president, is widely seen as the standard-bearer in the 2020 race for moderate Democrats and has voiced opposition to progressive legislation championed by Ocasio-Cortez and her allies. .............................................................................Yesterday at Riverside Church #mlknow AOC talked about the hostile environment in the House...she wasn’t talking about Republicans which we know what and who they are...it was the moderate, centrist, corporate establishment democrats that are dangerous and hostile. •
Wearing this shirt is scientifically proven to make you feel better about the future, just like a great MLK speech (this statement has not been evaluated by actual scientists). #democraticparty#mlk#mlkday
